Midna was...slightly taken aback by Tatl's actions, but didn't really see any problems with it. "So what?" Midna countered Ciel "If Tatl has a way to get us ahead of any resistance we might face, then I don't see a problem with it." ...Well, she didn't need much convincing. Midna thought over what she wanted to take from the shop's storeroom, then came to a decision


"I'll start by taking my share of the gold, so 50. Then I'll start reading the books. I want to be in the best shape possible in case we run into something dangerous"

Oh boy, the party has that kind of person in the group. As interesting as it sounds, this is bound to invoke some in-fighting over plans. Sure, she got her items, but not in the intended fashion. And it bothered her.

"......A night with a thief, huh? Sure, we got supplies, but think of the town folk. If we tried to ask around, they would certainly react negatively because of those past actions."

The Token Evil Teammate. Oh boy. Taking what she was supposed to buy and was supposed to spend, she, too, decided to check the books. There's no going back, I guess...

  Tatl glowed in delight, her wings fluttering eccentrically at the sound of all the items and gold that the shop keeper had "generously" gifted to their group. "Thank you!" She chimed, her unearthly light shining just a bit brighter. Guess she's just got a natural talent for this game! "I'll read up on all the books I can to get to level 10, and grab everything else... but I'll leave 100 gold."

"I'm not heartless, guys!" Still cracking up over how easy this was turning out to be, Tatl couldn't help but notice Ciel offering disapproving looks across the table. What was her deal? "It's just a game! And technically he gave it to us."

Ciel fell silent. Her arm was being twisted, and her gaze returned to carefully watching Erazor. His silence unnerved her. It seemed almost ... content, in whatever way the perpetually stoic look on his face could convey contentness. Finally, after each of them were done, he spoke up.

...Alright. I'll take the the training and a share of the gold.

Ciel had a feeling she was going to need it.

" Me too. It's too late to go back now. "

The shop owner is grateful for the chance to serve. You all advance to level ten, which... 'entitles' you to a new set of moves and an extra stat point for your characters. Be careful what you you ask for, you just might get it.

Follower of Dendar the Night Serpent +1 to Charisma Ability Familiar Imp: You may call upon an imp to do things for you. It has no free will, and does whatever you ask. It has the ability to fetch you knowledge of faraway things or cast fireballs at enemies for 5+Cha Damage, with a 30% chance of burning the target. Passive Telekinesis:  You have the ability to manipulate the world around you using your mind. You may use wisdom in place of strength for strength checks.

Serpent Channeler +1 to Charisma Ability Serpent's Bite: Make a charisma roll on a target that is not currently hostile to you. If succesful, you bite them and inject them with venom. This incapacitates them and makes them vulnerable to any action you might take, including an unceremonious one hit KO execution. However, if others are nearby and can see or hear you, they will be alerted and may become hostile. Passive Cold-Blooded: You do not take damage from extreme temperatures for the first three turns of exposure.

Wizard +1 to Intelligence Ability Scrying: Make an INT check specifying a location, character, item, or other identifiable object. If you succeed with a 12+, you gain insight into the character or area. If possible, this information will be relevant to what you went looking for. However, you cannot scry something you cannot name. Passive Well Read: You gain a +2 to understanding arcane languages

Cavalier +1 to Strength Ability Trample: Crush your foe underfoot with the combined weight of you and your mount! Gains a +2 to its accuracy if used following charge. Costs 10 mana. (Uses Strength; Does 30+Str Damage) Passive Advanced Mount Training: You do not suffer any penalties while riding a flying or other exceptionally rough mounts.

Vindicator +1 to Charisma Ability Wrathful Strike: Deliver an unrelenting, crushing blow with your champion's blade. Deals your cha stat in extra damage each time it is used on a given enemy. Uses 5 Mana (Uses Strength or Charisma; Does 14+Str/Cha Damage) Passive Holy Mount: Your mount inherits all of passive bonuses against evil targets.

Beast Mistress +1 to Charisma Ability Bestial Wrath: For 3 turns, you and your mount deal 5% extra damage with all of your attacks. Uses 10 mana. Passive Natural Bond: When you ride a non-hostile mount, it is calmed by your presence. It gains +2 resistance to mind altering effects.

Blade Unlimited

Hexblade +1 to Charisma Ability Soulshatter: Consume the soul of a vulnerable or downed enemy through your magic hammer. This restores mana equal to how much mana they had when they fell, up to a maximum of 10. Passive Soulbound Hexblade: Your hexblade has latched onto your soul, irreversably linkinging you to it. You may levitate your hammer back to your hand if you're disarmed at the cost of an action without opening yourself up to an attack of opportunity. Additionally, anyone else who attempts to hold your hammer. will be burn for 5% damage per turn and you will still gain healing from any attacks they make using it.

Lich +1 to Wisdom Passive Master of Undeath: You have attained immortality, at a price. You are now considered undead, You gain an immunity to sickness, mortal wound, extreme weather damage and will not stay dead unless your phylactery is destroyed. However, your dark aura will tip off the magically inclined and most holy aligned characters will have abilities that do increased damage to you. No rest for the dead: You remain fully alert while resting. You do not provoke any attacks of opportunity if attacked while attempting to rest as a result.

Gourmand +1 to Constitution Ability Digestive Assimilation: Eating a large meal or other character grants a +1 to their two highest stats for 5 turns and restores HP/Mana equal to whatever they had when eaten over 3 turns. The target must target your con when making attacks, which suffer a -5 damage penalty. They must roll a natural 20 or do 40 cumulative damage to escape. If they do not escape for 3 turns, they are defeated. Passive Contortive Ingestion: You can swallow any enemy of your size class or lesser whole without encumbering yourself.

Ciel's Choice Savagekin +1 to Wisdom Ability Savage Roar: You emit a loud roar or, if you cannot roar, shriek that terrifies the living hell out of everyone nearby. This charisma based attack stuns every enemy in the area if they cannot resist it. Passive Savage Diet: You may substitute wild plants, creatures and enemies for food for the purposes of avoiding starvation without fear of food borne illness or other gastric distress, with each meal restoring 20 mana.

Valorie's Choice Rock n' Roller +1 to Charisma Ability Sonic Boom: Play a chord so fierce on your rad guitar that it melts your opponents face! ...Or rather, creates a shockwave that throws them around. Uses 5 Mana. (Uses Charisma; Does 20+Cha Damage) Passive Bad Reputation: You'd think the people eating would be what gets you on the bad side of authority, but nope! It's your scary sounding music! You gain a +2 to initmidating others due to your reputation as being like, totally hardocre yo, but NPCs will immediately suspect your alignment of being evil upon recognizing you.

...After everyone was done, Ciel somberly addressed the group with bad news.

Dominate Mind doesn't last forever. ...When the shopkeeper is freed, I don't doubt our DM will have him turn on us. Ordering him not to won't work. ...We need to get rid of him.

No going back, huh... Well...As much she is reluctant to do so...better safe than sorry.

"...I suppose. And in honor of this sudden change of plans, I shall grow as a Vindicator so that I can make amends for this folly."

...Maybe she was getting a little too into it. But what's done is done, and she'd rather not mess up within the first day of this game. Someone in this party has to keep the order somehow, and being able to smite should help aiding in that.

Getting rid of him, huh? That was something Midna didn't want to follow her around, especially this early in the campaign. Luckily, the level ups that she was given had the perfect solution to this problem.

"I'm going to grow as a Follower of Dendar the Night Serpent, and put my familiar imp to use. I summon him to my side and command him to take the shopkeeper out of town and incinerate him with his fireballs." Midna said. Not something that she particularly wanted to do, but it was a necessary action if they wanted to keep a low profile. If taking someone outside of town and burning them alive is considered 'keeping a low profile'....

"I think I'll go for the Hexblade upgrade." Tatl concluded, chiming happily from the progress everyone was making so fast. (Though, was she the only one who noticed the oddity that a lot of their party's potential moves involved eating people?) It was only the 2nd or 3rd turn and already everyone was 10 levels up and learning new skills; they were all properly outfitted with items and rations; and nothing unpleasant for either party needed to happen, all thanks to her!

...

Okay, she might have spoken too soon on the "unpleasantness" part of the situation; the fairy needing to double-take after hearing Ciel's conclusion of the situation. So when her Dominate Mind ability was over, the shopkeeper probably wouldn't be too happy with the situation. "No problem. We can handle this fi-" She cut herself short though, as Tatl exclaimed in surprise as Midna summoned her own demonic servant to dispatch of the brainwashed shopkeeper. Ringing deafeningly in the twili's ear, the yellow fairy clearly displayed how much she wasn't happy with this. "I swing my hammer at the Imp before he can touch my servant!" Hastily yelling, the frantic fairy trying to salvage the situation before once more turning her attention to Midna.

"Hey! Listen, Lady!"

"You don't touch my stuff unless I say so: So hands off! Capiche?" Flitting about through the air, still clearly irritated, Tatl now turned to the inciter of this recent spout of violence. "Oh so 'stealing' is bad, but now killing innocents is fine? Hypocrite!" Ringing loudly to make sure nobody missed her saying this (for fear of more attempted assault at her thrall), Tatl cleared her throat before speaking up again with a little more calm and stability. "He's coming with us. That way I can keep him under and he can even carry our stuff and give us directions."

"Who knows? Maybe he'll end up being a good addition to the group?"

Ciel mirrored Ringo's discontent but failed to voice it this time. Instead, she passed a questioning look at Ringo. The look in her eyes spoke for itself, a look of concern and frustration. This fairy might become a problem later on, but for now it was probably in their best interest if they let Tatl attempt to handle the shopkeeper her own way. What were they supposed to do? Attack and subdue their ally?

...Your de facto leader protects the shopkeeper. Now you have only to decide where to go next.

...Alright. I guess having a demon leading a familiar face around town would've drawn too much attention anyway. Plus, attacking him might break the spell and he might run away. It's important to remember that our Dungeon Master is out to get us. Demons are treated a lot like an unfriendly looking dog. If their master isn't nearby with a 'leash', they usually get treated just like any monster.

" ...I could just eat him. That way nobody would have a chance to see him or find his body, and he wouldn't have anywhere to go if the spell broke. (Valorie smirked, sheepishly mumbling a last second addition) ...Not in a hurry, anyway~ "

Ciel hesitated a moment, giving Valorie a searching look. She was reasonably confident she'd heard that last bit right. ...God, Valorie's sense of humor was so weird! Kinda like their group come to think of it! Was this what having a normal social life was like? Looking past what made someone odd and bonding over what you shared in common? ...Things that weren't wars and survival? When she thought about it like that, it felt kinda good! She smiled at Valorie's attempt at humor, beaming slightly at the other.

. . . That actually sounds like a really good idea, Valorie. Hostile DM proof. We might want to keep that in mind for if we ever need to cover our tracks. Maybe I should see if I can grab that ability so we can remove two enemies from play at a time~!

Valorie beamed back at Ciel, positively thrilled to receive some praise. However, before she could follow through with that plan Ciel continued, turning her attention to Tatl.

But let's give Tatl a chance to do things her way before we think about getting rid of this particular shopkeeper. The most important part of the ability's mechanics are that he only risks breaking free of Tatl's control if he takes damage--or if an enemy spellcaster tries to dispel the effect. That means we shouldn't send him into battle.  Now--What are our options for progressing?

...Your options are as followed: 1) Investigate the cause of the disappearing caravan. You know its location, and with the shopkeeper's aid you should have no difficulty finding it. 2) Bleed the city dry for what it is worth. You may be able to find a place of higher learning to attack. 3) Go looking for more information and investigate the local politics to get a better understanding of the quest the shopkeeper gave you. 4) Attempt to smother me with your sickly sweet ... bonding.

Midna glared at the fairy that had zipped a few inches from her nose. "Hey, pixie. I'll have you know that I never laid a hand on him." she retorted before sighing as Ciel brought up a good point. "You're right though. Perhaps my plan was a little short-sighted. As long as he doesn't get hurt, we should be fine." Hoping that that would satisfy the fairy, Midna listened to what they needed to do next.

"I think that  looking for more information in the town would be the best route. We don't want this shopkeeper to get hurt, and the best way to do that, I think, is to make sure we aren't surprised by anything. What do you think?" Midna asked the group

Inner snark aside, Valorie's idea...while rather savage, sounds foolproof. No tracks left behind, but IS it the best choice? Tatl's call. It was the fairy's idea to mug the store. Putting that aside, what should the party do after the deed is done? There's a myriad of problems to solve, and the group has the basic info on what to do. But going to the caravan as it is? Not much info to dive upon.

"We should find some info about what happened to the caravan. Rumors, hearsay, stuff that could help connect the dots. As prepared as we are, a surprise attack is something we're never prepared for."

"I don't know how to feel about this genie takeover but guess we'll need to deal with it. Alright, I am intent on joining in! With the power  of her Beast Mistress Subclass and Luna the Puma, we shall win this game!" Moon claimed excitedly, seemingly very excited at the idea of a challenge even with a GM such as this. Helpfully she used her excitement to state which upgrade she chose and the species of her companion. "I agree that our best course of action should be to go look for info. Afterall, can not be overprepaared for a quest," Moon agreed, with some flavor.

Defacto leader? Heheh, Tatl liked the sound of that! Although she was especially creeped out by how quickly Ciel and Valorie shifted from murder to devouring the poor mind-slave, thankfully they surrendered the shopkeeper's fate to the fairy before she had time to object to the ridiculously morbid plan. "Thank you!" Ringing confidently, the yellow fairy swerved around in the air, pondering their next course of action now that the more urgent situation had been diffused. "...and I'm a fairy. Not a pixie!"

Turning her attention back to Ciel and Erazor, Tatl listened intently as the two explained more of the game mechanics. "So as long as he doesn't fight or get hurt, everything should be fiiine!" Chiming contently, Tatl concluded that the issue was put to rest. As for the genie's words though, Tatl was pretty much in agreement with everyone else as for what their next actions should be. "I agree. We should ask around town and get some info... plus, if we have the shopkeeper with us, people might be more willing to give us helpful information if we're with a familiar face." See? Everything was working out fine. Ciel shouldn't be such a worrywart.

...Well, it is one of the stranger stories to be told, but I think our biggest obstacle would be convincing anyone a group of girls played dungeons and dragons without any boys around to witness it.

Valorie rolled her eyes at Ciel's rather dry attempt of humor. She ... wasn't wrong, though. Valorie could already imagine people citing that as the reason their story was sketchy. Especially the socially awkward types that didn't know any better. Y'know, the type of people you'd stereotypically expect to be playing Dungeons and Dragons. She silently wondered if there was any truth to that stereotype. ...Probably not, if their group was any indication. ...Were they socially awkward? While Valorie quietly became self-conscious and lost in thought, Ciel continued.

But it sounds like our choice is unanimous. We'd like to ask around town about the caravan and why it might've been attacked.

Very well. You spend several hours asking around town for information. A passerby remarks that a rival shop in the area is probably getting a lot of business out of the tragedy. Others tell you that there have been outlaws sighted around the road leading into the area. They've been robbing travelers for some time now, but citizens react to the idea of them robbing caravans with shock. They speculate that the outlaws may be a threat to the town itself.

So... that road is a place where attacks and ambushes happen frequently, right? I guess these outlaws are getting more bold, but why?

It's likely we'll get ambushed if we go out there now. If we want to avoid that, we'll have to find someone who knows where the bandits are camped out. The problem is that anyone who knows that probably has a reason not to tell us. We'd need to find someone and 'convince' them to tell us.

"Eh, I think proving it actually happened is a requirement for the other."

Yeah, it's true that guys are into this sort of thing--Maguro was the one that got her into this thing--but putting that aside, this entire story is bonkers as it is. Tabletop gaming stereotype aside, the group managed to dig up some info about the trail. Outlaws, rival businesses, robberies...There's some shady practices going on here. That one cravan trail is immediately off-limits.

"Considering we have a thief among us, maybe that can be our ticket into getting info."

Midna rolled her eyes at Ciel's attempt at humor, but made no comment. Instead, she thought about the caravan route that lead out of town, or rather, how they were going to get info regarding the outlaws plaguing said route.

"Hmm..." Midna thought "Considering that Tatl easily "convinced" that shopkeeper to "help" us, I don't think convincing someone to help is going to be much of a problem. Finding someone that deals with there outlaws could be a bit more of a problem. Unless you want Tatl and I to invade the minds of every person in town, it might get a bit troublesome"
