Backstory: nintendo.fandom.com/wiki/Kevin_Keene
Appearance:
History On Li: When the king disappeared and Mother Brain tried to take over Videoland, their only hope lay in an ancient prophecy that a great warrior from another world would come to their rescue. When Kevin Keene got picked to be "Game Master", the hero of said prophecy, he could hardly believe it; but ever since he got to Videoland it's been a new exciting adventure after another. There was always some new scheme from that wrinkled wretch to stop, or some new warp zone popping up to explore another one of Videoland's exciting worlds. It was when he was doing the latter though that Kevin found himself in a peculiar predicament.
Princess Lana had sent him and Duke to investigate a wayward Warp Zone that had popped up seemingly out of nowhere, a little too close to the Palace of Power. He initially thought it was another one of a certain mother's hairbrained schemes to infiltrate the palace, but upon reaching the portal it proved to be something much worse. It was nothing like any of the warp zones that Kevin had seen before, well none except the ultimate warp zone that had brought him to Videoland in the first place. Mama N didn't raise no quitter though, so of course Kevin fearlessly charged into the portal to see what lay on the other side (and of course Duke loyally followed). What lay on the other side though was something he could've never expected: Li.
Everything was so similar to Videoland, and yet so very different. The people, the places, it was almost like a parallel world! The mysterious portal that brought him here disappeared, but Kevin wasn't too thrown off his game by this. After all, this wasn't his first rodeo! And hey, he might as well help out like a good Game Master while he's here!
Primary Attacks (3)
Zapper: Captain N's signature weapon! With the flare and precision of an expert gunslinger, Kevin can whip out his NES Zapper to make short work of any foes with its electrifying blaster beams. This combo-able move starts off mondo powerful, but loses 5% of its juice with each action the beam is fired. Once it hits 0%, Captain N needs to wait 4 turns while his drained Power Pad recharges energy. [Heavy-Light DEX Attack; DMG 15-5%; Combo-able; 4 turn cooldown after DMG hits 0%]
Power Jump: By pressing "up button" on his Power Pad, Captain N can send himself zooming straight up into the air; in prime position to execute a powerful stomp on his way down while also providing easy access to more tricky airborne opponents. [Medium STR Attack; DMG 18%]
Duke Fetch: Man's best friend enters the fray! Kevin's beloved dog Duke is always a step behind the Game Master, and at a moment's notice is ready to leap in and throw off the competition! Rushing in, his canine companion can nip and clamp his jaws at the heels and pant-sleeves of enemies, painfully grappling them in place if they fail a 15+ Dex roll. [Flat 15 roll vs. Dex; DMG 22%; Inflicts grapple; 2 turn cooldown]
Special Attacks (3)
PAUSE: The Power Pad's most versatile, and most power consuming, ability is its PAUSE functionality. By pressing the PAUSE button, Kevin can effectively stop time for a few moments; whether it be to reposition himself, lay a clever trap for an enemy, or even just take a breather when a fight gets tense. [Doubles DEX stat; 1 turn duration; 3 turn cooldown]
D-Pad: Pressing a directional input on his Power Pad's D-pad will send Kevin, and sometimes Duke, to abruptly shift in the appropriate direct almost instantaneously. When used, Kevin can either get advantage on all dodge rolls on his next turn, or a +3 buff to his next DEX-based attack roll. [Advantage on next turn's dodge rolls/+3 to next DEX attack; 2 turn cooldown]
Power-up: By adjusting a setting on his NES Zapper, Kevin can add some nifty attributes to its standard blast. The freeze setting causes the blasts to inflict Frozen, and the the heat setting turns them into blazing flames capable of inflicting Burn. [Zapper 100% inflicts Burn or 50% inflicts Frozen (Pick 1 for full duration) on hit; 3 turn duration; 3 turn cooldown]
Final Smash (1)
N-Team Finale: Using the power of the ultimate warp zone, Kevin can briefly call upon the help of his friends. Together with Simon Belmont, Mega Man, Kid Icarus, Gameboy, and/or Princess Lana (depending on which are available at the time), they can lay down a spectacular smack-down on even the toughest or most numerous groups of foes. Now you're playing with power, courtesy of the N-Team! Summoning them like that is a bit draining though, so once all the hubbub's over Kevin does take disadvantage on all rolls during the subsequent turn after its usage. [AoE DMG 80%; disadvantage on all rolls the turn after]
Other Info:
- Kevin was a member of his school's junior varsity swim team, so he's pretty lean and mean when he wants to be. That's also where his signature "N" letterman jacket comes from!
- An avid player of all things Nintendo, Kevin has immense and thorough knowledge of the mechanics and strategies of every game on the NES before the year 1990. He's not so much familiar with each game's respective lore besides his experiences in Videoland (though then again, such lore wasn't exactly consistent at those times).
