History On Li:
After escaping the alternate time dimension, Cortex had grown sick and tired of having his plans literally blowing up in his face. That blasted marsupial needed to meet it's end and he was near his breaking point of blowing the entire island up. He went into a period of isolation. Just him and his brain... and Uka Uka.
Uka Uka warned Cortex of a strange energy that had been growing out in another dimension. He just got out of one. He did not want to hear about another. He was told that his current efforts were a waste of time. It would prove to do nothing but worsen the outcome of the new fate. Although the scientist was head deep in his current rage-filled building; he was not ignorant of the warnings. A special crate had been arranged to be filled with some essential pieces of technology in case this so called "apocalypse" ever came. And what do you know. It happened. He had just built the ultimate weapon to put that moronic mammal out of his existence and poof. It was gone.

He had just built the ultimate weapon to put that moronic mammal out of his existence and poof. It was gone.
He woke up later in an unknown area. Lucky for him, his emergency crate was located not too far away. He pulled off the lid with all his strength. Ah yes. The madman was going all out for this one. He quickly equipped all his gear and stood tall and proud amongst the wasteland. That was until he had noticed a blueprint in the bottom of the crate. The Vortex. It dawned upon him the real situation he was in. Nothing was what he was used to. No machines. No minions. No Tiny Tiger. No Crash. No Uka Uka...
The scientist began to chuckle before going into a full-on evil laugh,
"Earth may be out of the question but I can surely conquer this..."
Was he actually serious about trying to take over Li? Who knows. He's mad after all.
...
Since arriving on Li, Cortex has spent his time using his mechanical genius to "help" maintain the Life Sphere and its various technologies. He seldom communicates with anyone else aside from the other (lesser) intelligent members of the sphere when needed. Rarely seen outside of his make-shift laboratory, Cortex is constantly experimenting and working with new ideas, plotting his next plan of action.
Primary Attacks (4)
N.Jure: A basic energy shot from Cortex's ray gun. Has a charge feature so power can be to his liking. Fitting for a megalomaniac.
[DEX 8-18%]
N.Snare: A special shot from Cortex's ray gun that causes a jolt of energy to run throughout the target's body, causing them to seize up. Will render the target impaired upon being hit, applying a -2 mod to their dodge rolls and Dexterity-based checks for two turns.
[DEX 10%]
N.Cinerate: The stereotypical heat ray for all ray guns. This fires out a straight concentrated beam of heat that can burn through metal given little time. Repeated usage against the same target gradually increases the burn chance.
[DEX 10%, burn chance 40%->50%->60%]
Gravity Flux: Cortex adjust his ray gun into a staff and slams it down into the ground. This will cause the gravity immediately around him to become distorted before releasing a concussive blast, effectively blowing everything away from him. Deals little damage but has tremendous knockback. Also breaks grapples.
[AOE 10ft WIS 8%, high knockback on targets and breaks grapples, two turn cooldown.]
Special Attacks (4)
Barrier: Upon activation, a blue protective sphere will surround Cortex. Will turn invisible after a short time has passed without being damaged. The barrier is capable of taking three hits, halving the damage. It takes a three turn cooldown before it can be used again.
[Halves damage from next three attacks.]
Mines A Plenty: Cortex produces a mine and arms it. These can be lobbed at targets, attached directly, or strategically lay them down to deter movement. All of which can be activated via remote or left to proximity.
[DEX or INT, 18%]
If lobbed, it uses [Dexterity] to aim and the target must use Dexterity to dodge.
If attached directly, it requires Cortex to make a sleight of hand [Dexterity] roll vs their Wisdom. On crits, the mine is undetectable.
If laid down, Cortex must be out of the intended target's sight in order to be set up correctly. He will place it using [Intelligence] in a spot that is out of casual visibility. It requires the victim to roll for Wisdom in order to detect it. Losing to Cortex's INT roll set off the mine via proximity.
Tinker: After convincing the many citizens of the Life Sphere that he is in fact NOT planning to try and take over the world again, Cortex has managed to expand his tool-set with resources from other worlds. Most remarkably, a portable lab set. This lab set utilizes high compression technology and spacial distortion to contain all things needed: a table, hand tools, soldering kit, spare circuitry, wires, electrical equipment, and even a neat little tea brewer packed down to the size of a mint box. It responds to Cortex's signature touch and will spring open into a ready state on command.
Cortex must be in a safe environment without physical disturbance in order to use this. It can be used to improve the capabilities of any mechanical or technological item he can get his hands. Each item can only be successfully tinkered with once and the result will be determined by an [intelligence] roll. Cortex may choose to abandon a previous roll and try again. Improvements can be simple as increasing damage, attack range, ammo count, or item duration. On high end rolls, he can potentially rework a weapon entirely. Rarer items like the BFG 9000 require a high end roll in order to be successfully modified.
[Intelligence roll and description of work will be given and DM decides the effects.]
Mechanical Mishap: Cortex attempts to get close to a mechanical target and use his genius to exploit them. This may be hacking into them to cause internal damage or altering them physically like putting this one wire in a place it really shouldn't go. Either way, it takes a turn of set up (usually used as the last action of a turn) where Cortex will attempt to get his hands on them. If Cortex is struck during the process or otherwise unable to reach them, the attack fails. If, however, he manages to avoid them, the attack is used freely on his next turn and can be continuously used on following turns if the target is unable to strike or escape him.
[INT, 28%]
Power Crystal
One of the slave crystals from his numerous attempts at world domination. While not nearly impressive as the full set, it is able to overclock Cortex's gadgets giving them that extra wumpa oomph. This gives Cortex a damage multiplier of 1.2x for his gadgets and also eliminates the need for cooldowns/recharge during this time. The crystal will keep pumping juice for three turns but after that it's back to being his pretty paper weight.
Other Info:
Since Cortex has arrived, his jetpack has given out on him. Now he has replaced it for rocket jets that are attached to his boots, allowing for flight. They start with three turns of flight and will recharge by one per non-activated turn.
This play on Dr. Cortex is based heavily upon the original trilogy and his info from Crash writer's bible. A much more serious and dangerous portrayal.
Definitely not an evil genius hellbent on conquering what remains of the world.
Despite how official artwork may portray it, the N on his forehead is a tattoo.
Cortex's sheer brilliance allows him to escape character and break the fourth wall. Proof of which can be found in this document. You can't hide from Cortex. He knows you are reading this.
