Pac-Man was still hanging in there.  Somewhere in the lower ranks.  His wheeler was beginning to warm up from the feel and he was making his way through.  He leapt through the portal and dropped into the vibrant city, his suspension bouncing and keeping himself rolling.  With the speed he was getting, he had time to take a look around and admire the view.  He was tempted to take a look back behind him to see if the track from before was still there but that wouldn't be the best of decisions. 

Coming up across the downward spiral, Pac gave the gas a push and shifted the wheeler sideways.  His engine whirred, pushing itself further as he began to drift down into the spiral, leaning himself to the side of his kart to shift the weight.  His exhaust pipes began to let out a myriad of colored smoke, shifting from yellow to red and then white.

Emperor Velo watched the racing unfold from his seat, a grin as everybody making their way through the futuristic city. The dimensional portals worked well, despite the whole interference he heard so much about. He takes a look at one of his servants, and beckons them to apporach.

"...I think this is a good point for things to make things really interesting. Ready the stage hazards!" Velo said to them, seeing the little alien scurry off as quick as he could. He chuckled. "Let's see if your instincts are on point, racers!"

"OHHOHOHOHO! I'VE GOT WORD THAT WE'RE GETTING HAZARDS IN THIS RACE. ABOUT TIME!"

"Well, I supposed it was only a matter of time! Good luck, racers!"

While the racers were drifting on the track, suddenly a couple of turrets appeared from next to the end of the spiraling road before firing a laser on the track. The lasers were rather harmless - just made to make the karts spin out and make them lose control for a bit.

[Crash Bandicoot]

The mutant bandicoot watched both Jr. and Daisy swerve by and overtake him. This race was really tense, huh...everyone was basically neck-to-neck. Crash tried to move closer to the edge, but his attention is snagged by a sound coming his way...oh, he didn't like the look of those lasers...

With expert maneuvering, Crash made his kart dodge the incoming lasers and move towards the edge of the spiraling track, seeing the end of the section in sight. Now, Crash wasn't exactly aware of a lot of stuff because his head was on a lot of other places, but one trick he learned from Coco was that if he kept making curves by the edge, he could save time.

...combine that with some turbo boosting, and the bandicoot had overtaken the competition in a matter of seconds. "Yeee-ha!" Crash vocalized, feeling the speed and hearing the roar of his kart as he blazed through the track, the gate leading to the next area coming ever-so-closer...

[Amitie, Sorceress Trainee!]

"Wha--Hey!" Amitie called, suddenly snapping out of her stupor as Daisy drove by her, and the guy in red too! She stepped on her pedal, intent on getting back the position she had lost. Seeing everyone drifting, Amitie decided to imitate the maneuver, making her kart hop for a miliseconf before she started drifting.

...Hold on, were those laser beams on the track?

"Yikes!" Amitie swerved out of the way of the beams, adrenaline coursing through her veins as she made the turn. She calms down shortly after - that was a pretty spur-on-the-moment thing, and wow, her uncle was right. This stuff was scary when you first lay eyes upon it.

She tried to recompose herself before she could return to drive proper. Once she felt herself calm down a bit, she pressed harder on the pedal, hoping to speed up...

Speed up she did! She wasn't really going as fast as the others were a couple of moments ago, but she was getting there! "My position now~!" she said to Daisy as she drove by, cheekily replying to her earlier statement.

“Just a little moooore…” While Daisy would like to think all eyes were on her for pulling that wicked sweet drift all the way down the spiral, her eyes were fixated on the center bend of the road, looking to catch the back of Bowser Jr’s kart.

“Woah!” Much to her surprise, she’d sooner catch site of oncoming turrets activating and firing laser beams onto the track. “It’s about time~…” She smirked, licking her lips in acceptance of their challenge.

“Wu-huh?” Daisy suddenly squeaked. Something went wrong in her dismount in her drift as she struggled to straighten her cycle on the road. The resulting trajectory ran her straight through one of the lasers, which caused her to spin out. “Ow-ow-ow-ow!” She scrambled frantically to regain stability of her vehicle, which she did before she could properly crash.
A sigh in relief was drowned out by the vroom of not one but two karts passing her. “Hey! Get back here!” She whined as she revved her engine again.

And with a boost of speed gained from realigning her motorcycle with the straight road, Daisy was well on her way from that number one spot again.

A grin was forming on his face he spiraled down the turns, building up one heck of a boost in the process.  A colorful smoke poured from his karts exhaust.  Getting back onto his seat proper, he saw that turrets had began to fire beams onto the track.  Oh boy...

Pac-Man attempted to get his wheeler to hop over the incoming beam but couldn't get it off the ground in time.  His became tangled on the beam, causing him to lose control for a moment.  There was a whizzing noises as his kart spun around in a circle where Pac's eyes matched the spiraling sensation.

And just his luck, his kart was wanting to be uncooperative with him.  He bopped his heel against the side of the wheeler, attempting to give it some motivation to kick into high gear.  Not much was earned though.  Pac-Man let out a huff and continued on.

Protoman was pretty behind and as he swerved down the track on his kart he would make sure to take a sharp turn as he proceeded further. Taking immediate notice of the turrets that were firing lasers at him and the others Blues would attempt to maneuver out of the way of them.

The lasers hit his car as he spun out of control losing a bit of distance from it. Hoping to catch himself after that he would now hit the gas and move to catch back up.

Managing to get himself back after some lost distance Blues hoped he was still within the race after getting hit by those lasers. "Phew! Close call." Blues would say as he maneuvered farther down the track. 1d20-2·1d20+1
