Shulk looked up at the ice layer, bracing himself for what might lay beyond it. The Starvia was growing stronger the farther they got up the mountain, and judging by the way the mountain looked, anything past here might be infected. Gathering up the rest of his courage, Shulk leapt up and swung the Monado at the ice.

Waiting for the rest of the party to catch up to them, the Ice Climbers look a moment to absorb their surroundings.
The mountain was encircled by a swirling fall streak of sickly purple cloud. This obviously unnatural weather felt very eerie and uncomfortable to the poor duo. What was happening to their beautiful mountain? The once bright sparkling white vision of a wintry wonderland was dulled and polluted with this murky mauve atmosphere.

It was enough to wet Nana’s eyes with ice cold tears. Popo, quick to notice, offered a comforting hand to hold, which she glumly accepted.
Then suddenly Splat!
The Ice Climbers were reminded of the world below their feet as Greninja tried and failed to break through the ice.
Popo cringed as Nana had to stifle a giggle at the sight. It seemed to be just what she needed at a time like this.
“Don’t Give Up!” Popo called down to Greninja in encouragement. “You can do!”
“Yeah you can!” Nana added, her own mood lightened by it.
Fortunately Link had better luck against the ice and broke himself and his partner up through. And Shulk was soon to follow.
With the party reunited on the fifth floor, Popo wanted to waste no time in jumping up to the sixth.
However all the commotion in getting here had once again attracted attention. But not from any natives this time.

The sudden flip flap of webbed feet began to echo from a source obscured by purple fog. Whatever it came from was scurrying near.
What’s black and white and purple all over?
It was an arctic bird with webbed feet and seemingly flightless wings. It carried a pair of smug sunglasses, much like the Polar Bears only way more obnoxious in style.

“Look at that!” Popo exclaimed.
“Not another Nitpicker!” Nana whined, having just gotten back into a good mood.
“It’s a penguin!” Popo decuded.
“What’s a penguin?” Nana asked, having never seen one herself.
“That’s a penguin.”
“Penguins are purple?”
“Black and white.” Popo corrected “They’re Not purple…”
“Are you sure?” Nana asked, pretty sure the alleged penguin was purple.
“Wait…” Popo squinted before widening his eyes in horrid realization “Not normal penguin!”

Not to be out done by the first, another purple penguin waddled in from the other side.
Looking around and up at their surroundings to see if any more were coming, Popo could swear the purple fog was deliberately closing in on them too. Squinting his eyes for focus sake, he could see four eyes open up as two clouds in particular gained sentience and began to hover above them.

“Clouds have eyes!” Popo alerted the group of the malformation of the clouds.
“So do veggies.” Nana shrugged nervously. “What’s so wrong?”
Zappow! One of the clouds struck lightning at the party.

Greninja felt like he should've savored the calm better, because as soon as he grabbed Link's hand, then came the storm...not literally, per se. Sure there were cloud-like enemies, but they weren't st--you know what, whatever.

However, the ninja frog got unfortunately hit by the lighting strike, which caused him to shrink. ...Being a ninja, however, this could only make this worse to his enemies. Greninja quickly unleashed his Hydro Katana and rushed down to his enemies, ready to slash!

After finishing off one of the infected foes, the Pokémon quickly put his hands together, firing a good ol' dose of Hydro Pump at one of the Ice Puffs.

Shulk watched the mountain, transfixed by the swirling purple mist that surrounded it. It was almost sad, and the feeling was seemingly shared by the two Ice Climbers. The dreary atmosphere was soon broken, transforming into one of alertness when a penguin waddled up to them, accompanied by.....

"Wait a second....are those storm clouds?" Shulk asked. The cloud responded to his question by non-discreetly shooting him with a bolt of lightning.

"Yes. Storm clouds. Definitely storm clouds!" Shulk panicked.

Shulk tried to jump out of the way, but really? You expect him to dodge lightning? He was hit, but instead of being electrocuted, like he expected, but...

"Hmm.. When did everything get so big? Wait a minute.."


Shulk was miniature, and very vulnerable. But wait. Smaller means harder to hit, right?


"Then let's make it even harder. Behold the power of the Monado!" Shulk yelled, sounding incredibly silly since his voice was pitched up a few octaves. Even so, a shimmering blue light surrounded him, and the Monado powered him up with the speed of a thousand blue hedgehogs.

Opening their eyes after dodging lightning, it appeared that the Ice Climbers were all alone.
“Where’s Link?”
“Where’d Greninja go?”
“Where is Shulk?” They asked each other, frantically looking around for their friends. Did the lightning disintegrate them?
The sudden high pitched slash of a Hydro Katana straight into one of the Cooligans caught the Ice Climbers attention and caught the Cooligan completely off guard.
Without any time to react to the mini ninja’s ambus, the Cooligan keeled over onto its back and disintegrated.
One of the Ice Puffs, caught off guard and now panicking was discombobulated by a mini Hydro Pump and dissolved back into the air from whence it came.
“There’s Greninja!” Popo cheered. “He’s small now!”
“But where’s Shulk?” Nana asked again. A high pitched battle cry answered her question. A backslash pierced the back of a Cooligan. “There he is! He’s small too!”
The Cooligan waddled around in a circle, trying in vain to slap the mini monado wielder off of its back. The Cooligan instead decided to blow its passenger off by sliding on its belly directly into the Ice Climbers.

The Ice Climbers weren't knocked down and were far from knocked out. They both lifted their hammers and brought them down on the Cooligan’s head now that it was right where they wanted it.

The Cooligan was smashed apart like a stand castle, spreading apart in a mess of purple snow that disintegrated like its comrade before it.
All that was left now was one more cloud. 
The Ice Climbers exchanged a nod and held hands. Combining their cyrokinetic powers, they created a mini blizzard directly at the cloud that froze it.

The frozen Cloud fell to the floor and shattered like glass.

“We did it!” Popo congratulated his partner with a high five.
Before they could climb up to the next floor, however, the Ice Climbers had to round up their party.
“Look at them!” Nana cooed as she picked up Greninja and Shulk in their hands. “They're so cute!”
“They’re so small.” Popo scratched his chin, wondering how long this effect will last. “For how long?”
“Don’t worry Popo.” Nana reassured him, handing Greninja over to him. “They’ll find love.”
“…With this carrot!” Nana proposed, holding a carrot with her free hand as an example. “See? They like eachother!” She demonstrated as she held Shulk and the carrot to embrace each other.
“Oo-Ma! Oo-Ma! Oo-Ma!~”
“Nana stop it.” Popo interjected, swiping Shulk out of her hand. “This is serious.”
“Seriously, where’s Link?”

The currently miniature ninja frog felt himself being scooped up by Nana and then was handed to Popo. Huh, was he really that tiny now? And now that Nana asked, where'd Link go? The Pokémon felt kinda sad that he was nowhere to be seen. He thought there was something special between them...what happened to their scarf friendship?!

...Eh, people come and go anyway. It's not like it could be any different.

After a while, Greninja felt his body grow back into normal size. Better get off before he could squash Popo...assuming he could squash him. The ninja frog hopped away from Popo as his body returned to normal size. "Grenin... (Well, that's was some experience...)" The ninja frog muttered. He pointed above. "Greninja. Gre. (We may as well proceed. No threats for now.)" he said, jumping straight towards the next layer and...

He tried smacking the ice block, but nothing happened. Frustration ensues for Greninja.1d20

Shulk stood triumphantly over the downed Cooligan, all three inches of him, admiring his great accomplishment, considering his size. He victory was short-lived as Nana scooped him up to be inspected by the two of them, along with Greninja. Then Nana got a strange idea.....

"Ow. Ow. Ouch!" Shulk groaned in pain as Nana repeatedly slammed him against one of the carrots that they had found. He lay dazed in Nana's hand until Popo snatched him away.

Suddenly, a strange feeling came over Shulk, and he started to grow again. Quickly jumping out of Popo's hand, he landed on the ground just as he reached his normal size. He glared at Nana for such a humiliation.

Ignoring the two for now, Shulk jumped up and tried yet again to break the ice.

Shulk successfully broke though the ice shelf, and reached his hand down to Greninja.

"Since Link seems to have disappeared, how about I fill in as your partner for the rest of this?" Shulk called down to him, offering the ninja frog a boost.

“Link’s gone home.” Popo shrugged in disappointment. “Greninja’s alone now.” He looked down at the little Pokémon in his hand.
“Shulk’ll love Greninja?” Nana asked only to get an eyeroll from Popo. “Oo-ma?”
He’d facepalm too if his palms weren’t full.
Before Popo could open his mouth to speak his mind, lightning’s effect wore off and the two sprang fully sized out of Popo’s hand. Greninja and Shulk were back to normal and ready to get back to work.

“Don’t need ‘Love’.” Popo tried to explain to Nana as patiently as he could, shaking his hands after what just happened. The two watched as Greninja jumped up and tried to break the ice, only to come right back down a failure.
“Just a partner.”
Shulk on the other hand managed to successfully break a hole through the ice that Greninja could now climb up through.
“See?” Popo confirmed with a wise nod. “They’re Partners now.”
“But partners love,” Nana reminded him. “Just like us!”
Popo…was stumped as to how to respond to that. He didn’t think she was right, but he didn’t want to hurt her feelings with what saying no to that would imply about them.
“Yeah but…Whatever.” Popo dismissed as he jumped up to break a hole in the ice.

“Someday, little carrot.” Nana promised the vegetable, not losing hope that one day it will find true love.
“Nana! Come on!” Popo begged her to stop wasting time and try for the ceiling instead.

On the other side of the ice, things weren’t lovely at all. The purple fog swirling around the mountain seemed to only get thicker up here. So thick that the Ice Climbers doubted sun behind the clouds was even there anymore.
“This is familiar.” Nana commented flatly on how eerie and uncomfortable this floor continued to be.
And right on cue, another creature waddled out of the fog.

“Who’s that…Pokémon?” Popo began to ask before vaguely recognizing it.
“Barack Obamasnow?” Nana scratched her head, trying to remember.
“Just a Snover. A purple Snover.” Popo sighed in relief at remembering its name now. Ice types were his favorite types of Pokemon after all.
“Let’s do this!” He encouraged Nana, expecting an easy fight.
When out of the fog came… a Lazer beam! An ice lazer crossing the floor, headed right for our party!

“What was that?” Popo panted, searching for the source of the laser. A purple Cyrogonal drifted out of the fog to reveal itself.
“A Cairo…Cryo… Cyroger… It’s Freegeo!” Nana stuttered, trying to be the cool one who remembered Pokemon names now.
Popo wasn’t gonna back down from a little purple laser pointer “We can still-“ He began to rally before being cut off by footsteps.
“Please be Polarbear...” Nana hoped, crossing her fingers inside her mittens.

Out of the mist, stepped a big icy foot, dragged by the icy leg of a gigantic icy figure. The Snowman lumbered out and revealed itself, towering high above the Snover, and nearly hitting it’s head on the next floor above it.

“Who’s That Pokemon?” Nana felt compelled to ask.
“That’s no Pokemon.” Popo really didn’t feel compelled to answer.

And last but not least, out came a…Honestly this floating creature defies proper explanation. It looked like…an antlered pinecone with icicles dangling from it?

“What the Fitzgerald?” Nana’s jaw loosened to hang. She was even more confused by the creature than afraid.
“…I give up.” Popo gave up trying to guess. “Just hit it.”

Seeing Shulk going up and offering to fill in for Link made Greninja feel slightly better. The ninja frog nodded before jumping and grabbed the Monado Boy's hand to jump to the next floor. Suddenly a beam of ice zoomed in, but he got saved by one of the Ice Climbers. Greninja quickly got up and noticed...two infected Pokémon and two ice creatures he wasn't aware of. He readied his Hydro Katana. "Greninja, grenin! (Ready yourselves! We're in for a nasty battle!)" He said, apparently forgetting they most likely couldn't understand him.

The ninja frog advanced towards the Starvia Crygonal and tried to slay the Pokémon with his Hydro Katana...twice.

Seeing as his attempts at attacking missed, Greninja instinctively backed away and placed his hands together, firing an ice beam at the living ice...thing. Now, it would be pretty ironic if it froze.

Shulk gripped Greninja's hand and lifted him through the hole in the ice. He was barely able to catch his breath when a beam of freezing cold energy rocketed his way. Before he could do anything, he was shoved aside by Nana, out of harms way.

"Thanks for the save, Nana" Shulk thanked her as he got up. "I'll take that as retribution for that carrot episode."

Getting to his feet, Shulk smirked at the various ice enemies as he pulled something out of his pocket. "Heh, I knew I brought this along for a reason!" he thought.

Cyrogonal nimbly swerved and swayed around Greninja’s Hydro Katanas. If its face were not locked in a perpetual scowl, chances are it would have been smugly smiling at him.
The hypothetical smile would not have lasted very long, for Greninja’s Ice Beam hit bulls eye on the floating target that was Cyrogonal.
Refusing to go down without a fight, the Starvia Cyrogonal breathed in deep and shot out it’s own Ice Beam to fight fire with…well, ice.

Meanwhile Popo engaged in the…odd…antlered ice pinecone thing hovering about the battle field.
Jumping and swinging his mallet at the being wasn’t nearly as effective without his partner’s help but Popo continued in hopes of buying his partner time to catch up.

“Anything for you.~” Nana winked privately at Shulk, grinning sheepishly about the carrot episode.
Her sheepish face turned to awe as Shulk unleashed his Fire Flower upon an attacking but unsuspecting
Snover. Fire Flowers, as famous as they are, didn’t grow on the mountain, thus neither Nana nor Popo have often seen them before.
“Man’s Red Flower!” Nana gasped.

The fire glowed like a brilliant star in the dark foggy void that was the mountain.
The mystified monsters reacted with immediate repulsion toward the fire. The Snover in question hastened backwards to avoid the flame’s licks. The infected Pokémon wasted no time trying to extinguish the fire with by blowing an Icy Wind at it and its wielder.

The Starvia Snowman attempted to dowse the Fire Flower by stomping Shulk and Greninja Frog out.

Greninja swiftly dodged the Cryogonal's attempt at retaliation. The ninja frog only decided to poke them with his Water Shurikens. ...He then thought that one simply wasn't enough, so he threw 3 of those nasty shurikens.

The ninja frog was done with that creature, but the battle wasn't over just yet. Anotther infected monstrosity tried to step on the frog...but since he was dealing with one that was part ninja, the attempt at squishing him was a marvelous failure. The Pokémin decided to shift the attention to his newest aggressor and proceeded to attack him with his Hydro Katana.

He then brought his hands back together and Hydro Pumped the living infected snowman right then and there. He looked...noticeably more angry than before this time around.

Shulk quickly got out of range of the infected Snover's icy blast, but that left him wide open for the Snowman to step on him. Trapped under the Snowman's foo, Shulk struggled in vain to free himself. Giving up on that option, and trusting that his allies would get the Snowman off of him, he instead focused his efforts once again on the Snover. Pointing the Fire Flower toward it, Shulk let out more quick bursts of flame.

The Starvia Cryogonal swiftly avoided the Greninja’s Water Shurikens by swerving through the air. The crooked path it flew proved to be advantageous as it lost predictability along with its ability to steer itself properly. The false ice Pokémon retaliated with another Ice Beam to prove that it would not give up until shattered.

The Snowman growled in disappointment at missing the ninja frog, but roared in success at feeling the Monado wielder under its icy calluses. It soon groaned in pain at feeling a Hydro Katana in its knee. Its adventuring days are over. It lifted its foot off of Shulk, clutching it in pain.
A subsequent Hydro Pump straight through the gut did nothing to help the Snowman keep its balance and it tumbled down like an avalanche onto its foes.

Being stepped on but now freed from the Snowman’s foot did nothing to dim the flames of Shulk’s Fire Flower. A problem that the Starvia Snover found most distressful. With luck, the Snover was in fact burnt by the Fire Flower’s blaze. Rather not burnt, but partially melted.

The Snover decided wind was not enough, and began to hurl snow balls at Shulk and his Fire Flower

Popo shook and broke the painfully cold shards out and off of his parka. He decided to fight ice with ice and batted an icicle of his own at the Starvia Frozum.

“Here I come!” Nana heroically announced, leaping to her partner’s aid.

Reunited, the Ice Climbers had each other’s backs and were ready to gang up on the Frozum.

However the Frozum was not going to let the two eskimos back him into any corner of the mountain.
It took a much more strategic approach: by desynchronizing them! And it did it by…dripping onto the floor? The water soon froze, making the surrounding surface bellow it extra slippery

"Gre. Greninja. (Tch. Just barely got it.)" Greninja muttered to himself as he readied himself for another attack from that ice Pokémon. Sure enough, it tried to use Ice Beam again. The ninja frog began to prepare himself for the incoming beam....

Once again, he swiftly dodged that attack. Now he'd hopefully put that Starvia Pokémon out of it's misery by trying to strike it once again with Water Shurikens...but wait, a Snowman was going to collapse on him! He'd need to evade, and quickly so if he didn't want to be buried in snow.

"Gaaah! J-Ja.. (Argh! I-I was careless...)" the frog spoke as he would be hit by the falling Snowman, whom was soundly defeated. Thankfully, not much harm came to him for that particular moment. Now to put another one out of their misery...

The ninja frog would turn around and change his target to the Snover. Making a few ninja symbols, he had suddenly vanished from the other Pokémon's view, reappearing from behind them as he attempted to strike them from behind.

And finally, he would create a blade of dark energy and attack the wild Snover with it. Hopefully this one wouldn't be as persistent as the Cryogonal.
