The crowd's roar was thunderous. A celebrity contender was in the arena! Arle stopped in her tracks, taking a deep breath for a moment as she adjusted to all of the noise. Had it been a while since her last stint in the arena? She felt like it had. The audience clearly wanted more of her! ...Which...just meant she had some big shoes to fill. Bouncing forward, she rushed to the middle of the field and waved to the audience, striking a somewhat inviting pose. As much as the attention sometimes creeped her out on the street, mostly because she was considered to have a strong natural prettiness and creeps existed, this was a much more comfortable sort of attention. She would've tried to greet everyone, but well--y'know. Too loud. Regardless, she couldn't help but be very curious about who sheh was going to be fighting today. She honestly wasn't hoping for anyone in particular, or even any type of fighter. Arle was ... content, for now. The crowd quieted down a bit as a newcomer entered the arena though, drawing Arle's attention.

Phosphora walked into the stadium with confidence, listening to the thunderous roar of the audience as they welcomed the second contender, although with a bit less enthusiasm then when Arle arrived. This contender was a newcomer, unknown to the majority of the audience, but the audience invited her warmly all the same.

The electrified lass looked across the stadium, and saw a familiar face. Well, sort of. Phosphora had only actually met Arle once, but she still knew of her as a member of the Forces of Nature. However, Phosphora also knew that she had gone AWOL recently too, so she wasn't about to go easy on her.

"Arle Nadja" Phosphora called out to her once the applause had died down. "Fancy meeting you here right now." Phosphora began to float slightly as she charged herself up for the fight.

And just like that, Arle's heart dropped and she suddenly knew exactly who she wanted to fight. ...Anyone else!! ...Okay maybe not anyone, but y'know. This was still the worst! For now! "Ph-Phosphora..!" Arle breathlessly replied in shock. The look on her face was priceless. She almost seemed to wither a bit in Phosphora's presence, her body language becoming a lot more 'humble'. Aww, look! She's afraid of you, Phosphora! A single hand clutched at her rapidly beating heart as if to still it. Perhaps Phosphora remembered one particular aspect of their first meeting.

...The way Arle had been unable to hide her admiration for Phosphora's looks.

"I... I don't want to fight you..." Arle timidly remarked in the mousiest of voices, inaudible to anyone else. A flustered blush was becoming more and more apparent on her cheeks. You could just hear it in her voice. She liked Phosphora! More than she cared to admit! This felt just like the times she'd been forced to fight Rulue, another stunningly gorgeous woman in her life that she really, really wanted to like her back. Why couldn't they just ... get along? The poor thing was a nervous wreck. Maybe Phosphora could use that to her advantage, provided she was that kind of person.

Without warning, a whispy blue blur seemed to fill the whole stadium; cyan winds whipping up a considerable storm as the entire audience was nearly swept away in a raging cyclone. When the winds had finally settled though and the nostalgic-looking after-blurs had all disappeared only one thing remained, standing proudly at the announcer's box with a proud smirk. A blue bomber (not the metal one) that would be a familiar and surprising sight for all in the audience and combatants, holding a microphone up to his muzzle and cockily smirking was none of than:

"He~low, Sunshine Stadium! Long time no see, huh?"
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!...?

Earning an audible and fitting gasp from a good portion of the observing crowd, the previous cheers populating the arena were now loudly accompanied by fervent "Boo"s and audible cries of confusion. Why would one of the leaders of the Life Sphere be here to judge an arena matchup, let alone Sonic after that ominous ultimatum he issued in recent announcements. "Now I bet you all must be pretty excited for this ℳ∀†℃нṲℙ Huh?" The blue blur exclaimed, seemingly ignoring the mixed reaction of the crowd to focus more in on the competitors below.

"In one corner we have a long-time stadium vet, and the one I'm personally rooting for: The stellar mage and fighter from the only other consistent ϟεḠ∀ ρґøρℯґ⊥¥ ♭ℯṧḯḓℯ﹩ ღε, ARLE NADJA!"

The crowd's cheers steadily began picking back up, most of them wanting to focus back on the fight they had come for. Still... Sonic did seem a little off today.

"And on the other side, тℌε electric ¢◎μღαᾔḓℯґ ◎ḟ ⊥нℯ ḟøґ¢ℯṧ ☺ḟ ᾔ@тυяε; Phosphora!" This time, the cheers ringing from the stands grew progressively louder, getting back near the levels they had originally been moments ago. "If she's as fa-

Spinning around the microphone in his oddly polygonal hand, the hedgehog referee struck a confident pose, leaning dangerously over the edge of his booth. "You all know the rules. No trophying your opponent, ḉℌℯαтїηℊ, ☺ґ g̴͙͔̰̺͒́ǫ͒̿ͪͬi̲͓ṋg̜̈̑͆ͨ͆ ̵̺̘̹͔̫͈ͦͮ̈́s͍̺ͪͯ̅̿̇͝l̹̰͔̼̜̬͑͐̿̏̀̉ơ̞͕̽̉͂͌͒͐w̞̘͎̖̗̚ͅ. Five minutes to prove yourselves! Good luck, and have fun kids! SꜴNIC SEZ!"

Phosphora watched Arle as she realized who she was fighting against. Arle's confident demeanor all but shrivelled when she saw who she was fighting against.

"Oh Arle, don't be like that!" Phosphora replied to Arle's mousey little squeak. "Don't think of this as a fight, think of it as a training exercise. You're simply showing off your skills to one of your commanders. There's no malicious intent here." There was a touch of softness in Phosphora's voice. Perhaps she didn't want Arle to be scared of her. She wanted Arle to show her full power.

"However, since it seems that you have left the Forces of Nature, there is a bit of a score to settle. So I'm not going to hold back either" Phosphora exclaimed. She had fully charged herself as she finished her little speech, so she was ready to go. All she needed was for the ref to show up.

The ref did indeed show up, and to Phosphora's bewilderment, the ref was....Sonic? What was he doing here? And why didn't he sound like himself? Questions for another day, perhaps. Right now there was a fight to be had.

"Mistress Viridi must have seen something amazing in you to recruit an ordinary human to the forces." Phosphora commented. "So, enough blabbity blab. Let's get to the main act!" Phosphora balled up lightning in her hands, and began shooting small bolts at Arle.

Arle quietly considered the idea for a moment. Huh. She'd almost expected to get cooked by a lightning bolt. But this was ..? It was nicer than that, to say the least. Arle seemed to become somewhat less uncomfortable. She didn't really want to hurt Phosphora, but ...she supposed that was just how the cookie crumbled. "Oh... Alright." Arle reluctantly replied. She could already tell she wasn't going to enjoy this.

A yelp escaped Arle as a jolt of electricity zapped her! That seemed to get her attention. With a wave of her arms, she conjured up a glass-like shield of magic in the air before her to absorb the followup attacks, vanishing as quickly as it had arrived when Arle returned her arms to a more combative position.

The mage then performed a distinctly inhuman jump--inhuman because of its 10 feet of height--to dodge an incoming thunderbolt! It seemed like she knew to watch from above. ...And also wasn't afraid to perform acrobatics in that short skirt of hers. Ah well. Who had time to focus on that when they were dodging fireballs!



"Fiya!" Arle incanted, attempting to blow Phosphora back with a blast of fire!

Meanwhile, while Arle used this attack to grant herself some cover, she dropped back to the ground and landed in a crouch. Quickly standing back up, she raised her staff to the sky and incanted again. "Star Storm!!" Arle shouted, a bunch of large 'shooting stars' manifesting in the air above her before launching into the ground around Phosphora and just kinda exploding everything on impact! Who needed accuracy when you had firepower like that??

"Woah! And right off the bat sparks are flying! Looks like Phosphora iṧη❝т н◎ʟḓḯηℊ αη⑂☂н☤ᾔ❡ ♭αḉк‼" His form distorting oddly for the briefest of moments, Sonic grinned as he exclaimed through the microphone, watching the match intently.

"It looks like nobody's holding anything back. But you know how the old saying goes, fight ḟḯґ℮ ẘї⊥♄ ḟḯяε▣▪▣ℒ☤terally!" Dashing around from his booth, the hedgehog seemed to disappear in a gusty blur before reappearing at a random spot in the crowd, nearly startling a toad to death when he suddenly stuffed his mic in the poor creature's face. The toad visibly had to calm himself, clutching his chest with a pudgy hand before turning to look at the interviewing judge in anger. "Wha-I-I mean this looks like anyone coul-Can you not blow up the plan-" Quickly snatching his microphone back, the disturbingly joyful hedgehog spun around before rushing back to his booth. "I'm certainly looking foreward to it too!"

"And just like that, Arle's raining down her retaliation with @ ḓ℮ṽαṧт@тїηℊ ﹩☂αґ ṧ⊥☺яღ." His neck fidgeting disturbingly, Sonic's smile only grew in amusement, watching the battle unfold in a brilliant display of warring elements; the crowd was seemingly equally enjoying the fight as well as Arle's quite flashy magic moves.

So Arle has a few tricks up her sleeves, Phosphora thought. That dodge was an impressive feat on it's own. "Nice moves Arle" Phosphora complimented her. "Mistress Viridi certainly knows how to choose recruits. But you'll need to be faster then that" Just as she finished speaking, a flash of light engulfed her, and she began to blink around the stadium, first appearing in one place, then another. If Arle, or anyone else in the audience looked close enough, they would see a spark of lighting flashing across the arena every time Phosphora moved.

Phosphora saw Arle's fireball flying toward her, and stopped for a bit. Standing there, she waited until just before the fireball could scorch her scarf, and then bolted over to the other end of the stadium. "Over here Arle!" Phosphora called. Was she toying with her?

Well, toying with her or not, Phosphora's taunting had let Arle get away with charging up one heck of a meteor storm. Realizing that she didn't have anywhere to run this time, she raised her arms, crossing them over her face. A barrier, similar to the one that Arle had summoned earlier, appeared around her, sheltering her from the storm.

The barrier held, but only just. If Phosphora found herself in a similar situation, she might not have that luxury again. Once the storm was over, Phosphora turned to face Arle again, charging up again. This time, Phosphora shot a bolt angled upward. It arched itself back downward, straight toward Arle.

Arle's chest tightened as Phosphora complimented her. What was... going on here? She wasn't entirely sure, but Phosphora wasn't mad at Arle for hurting her. She supposed she could live with that? "I can get faster if you give me a chance~" Arle replied somewhat enthusiastically. Sonic's voice, however, drew a scrutinizing glance from Arle. Hold on who was judging them again? Her stare became briefly confrontational when she finally picked out Sonic. She quickly seemed to realize something was off, though.

" . . . Well, he's better than our Sonic. I rate this 'Sonic' two Sonics out of 'Sonic'." Arle playfully remarked, casually taking a shot at their glorious leader. She was well beyond the point where she had anything to be afraid of criticizing a life sphere leader.

Arle snapped to face Phosphora when the other called out for her. She quietly considered whether she should be watching her back against speed like that. ...Naaaah. Everyone knew a backside was a girl's most powerful weapon! Who would position themselves there?? Watching the bolt arc down toward her, Arle held up an arm and summoned another magical barrier to block it! The bolt would impact the barrier ... and shatter it like glass. However, one would be quick to take notice that the shards hung suspended in the air above Arle's hands, glowing softly with arcane power. "Le-Levia!" Arle stammered out, tossing her arms forward. A storm of magical shards shot out in tandem, aiming to cut Phosphora down to size with devastating strength!

"Are--...Are you alright, Phosphora?" Arle asked, observing the strength of her spell firsthand. She didn't want to brutalize the uh ... Did Phosphora count as a goddess? Come to think of it, she wasn't actually sure. Arle would wait a moment, just to make sure Phosphora wasn't staying down or too hurt to continue, before offering her followup. "Meet a friend from my world~" Arle said, gesturing to her side. A giant flying squirrel had glided in to stand beside her! Apparently, that was allowed?

((Arle has called her flying squirrel mount! It's a special attack that grants her +2 to her dex mod and -5% damage reduction for 3 turns of being ridden.))

"But before I show you what she can do, Mind Blast!" Arle incanted. This attack was so fast, it couldn't even be seen! ...Or rather, it wasn't a projectile attack at all. She was using psychic strength to attack Phosphora's mind directly!

His pupils began dilating, his body twitching more erratically... taking a deep breathe though, the seemingly disturbed hedgehog managed to calm himself; gripping onto the railing to his referee-box so hard it...started reverting back into simpler polygonal structures?

Oh dear.

"But hey! Look at the strength behind that attack of Arle's! This mage isn't out of the race yet.... with... with her... Dia-Cu-Seventy Fi-F-...ḟαṧ☂?" The hedgehog faltered, honing in on Arle's comment before suddenly something snapped inside of him. ALL OF THAT POWER! ALL OF THAT SPEED!

Suddenly Sonic fell back behind the banisters of the announcer's booth, the previously echoing screams dying down into now a deafening silent. Many members of the crowd hushed... wondering if one of the leaders had just given himself a heart attack.

...

A toad abruptly stood up, pumping his fist at the air. "Yahoo! Sonic's dead! Long live Mar-"

Without warning, as if to reject the random audience member's cheer; a bright light exploded outward from where Sonic had been! As if like a virus spreading outward from the booth, a wave of pixelated de-rezzing textures began engulfing the Colosseum around and under Phosphora and Arle as they continued their bout! Even the crowd was not spared as their panicked screams were soon replaced with... highly-generic, 2-frame crowd gifs and equally low-quality stock cheering sounds.

And Emerging out from the announcer's box was quite possibly the most terrifying thing that had ever somehow made it's way onto Li.

"Try not to blink folks, cus there's only 3 minutes left to battle! My criticism for Arle right now though: 'Girl, do you even fast!?'"

As Phosphora's lightning bolt snaked it's way across the ground, Arle didn't seem too bothered by it. "Odd" thought Phosphroa "usually that attack gets people to move pretty quick-"

Her thoughts were interrupted when she saw what Arle was doing. She had blocked her attack, but......the shield hadn't faded? What was going on? Phosphora soon got her answer, was the shards of Arle's shield suddenly turned to her, and launched toward her with devastating force.

With an incredible burst of speed, Phosphora flited over to the other end of the stadium as the shield shards embedded themselves in the wall where she was previously. Even observing the spell from where she escaped to, Phosphora could tell that it was amazingly strong, to an almost superhuman degree. "Incredible" Phosphora breathed as she witnessed such power coming from Arle "The amount of strength in this human....it's amazing." When Arle asked if she was alright, Phosphora answered her back "I'm fine, Arle. Perfectly OK."

Once she had confirmed that she was alright, Phosphora shook off her stunned demeanor, and got right back into the fight at hand. Which is when she noticed that Arle had summoned a little friend.

"Oooh, he's cute" Phosphora cooed over the flying squirrel. She always had a soft spot for any animal, and Arle's flying squirrel was no exception. "Maybe he could come home with us to the Lunar Sanctum after all this is over" Phosphora said. While she was gushing over Arle's mount, she missed what Arle said after that, and was unprepared for what came next.

"Y-You can't take him away from me!" Arle blurted out rather defensively as she shifted to embrace and mount the flying squirrel. Don't steal her hometown friend, Phosphora! "I've known him since I was little!" Arle went on to add, petting the giant flying squirrel behind the ears as she lovingly-yet-goofily clung to the creature. ...Hold on, what was that feeling prodding at the back of her mind? Arle furrowed her brows for a moment. Was she getting jealous of a squirrel because Phosphora hadn't cared much for her when they first met? ...God, that was stupid. She silently resolved to find a better way to feel about the situation. In what way was it reasonable to want to be taken home to her genocidal ex-goddess?

...Maybe there was another part of her heart she wasn't listening to.

Taking off, Arle and her squirrel deftly dodged Phosphora's attacks as they sped around the arena. Walls became platforms and gravity became a suggestion as the mage gained an enormous amount of speed. I don't think you even tried to go fast, Sonic. As she leapt around the arena though, something ... disturbing happened.

Author's Note: How could you invoke this game without putting its amazing soundtrack on display?? Also why do I find the pokemon having 999 HP more concerning than the meme monster causing all of this??

If one managed to catch a glimpse of Arle's face, they could witness her immense cringe at the sight of the unnatural arena. Creator in the heavens above, why have you done this? Her flying squirrel squeaked in alarm and flailed as it tried to dodge several freaky things happening at once, momentarily resulting in an unusually bumpy ride. Arle didn't even have a saddle on that thing! "Woooah! Concentrate!" Arle encouraged, directing the giant squirrel back to Phosphora. It then charged the other, with Arle lowering her staff as if to whack Phosphora with it as she passed.

Of course, if anyone actually expected that they were a bit gullible, yeah? Arle's arms, while moderately fit, were immensely less threatening than her magic.

And then, the flying squirrel bounced over Phosphora. As Arle passed over the other, her cape billowing behind her due to sheer air resistance, Arle ..! ...flashed Phosphora the peace sign. "Diacute~!" Arle incanted.

What was the point of that fake out? You'd expect a fake out to be followed by an actual attack, but Arle just used it to ... show off? Maybe she was trying to impress someone. Notice me senpai Phosphora ... seenic i am not too slow

But! All plans had to come to a head, and Arle's plan had just begun. "Bayobayooo~!" the mage chirped. Phosphora was definitely fast. Fast like lightning! But what if she ... weren't? To Phosphora, it would probably appear as if the world were speeding up. But that was only because Arle was attempting to slow time itself down around her!

Also, what if Arle attacked faster than lightning? Y'know, the thing with light in its freaking name. Raising a hand to the sky, Arle considered what she was about to do with a faint little smile. As she did this, one could just feel the air shift. The hair on many an oddly pixelated audience member would rise into the air of its own accord, accompanied by some loose dirt and pebbles. What was happening?! Was Arle destroying gravity itself?! "Th-Thunder!!" Arle shouted in incantation, bringing her raised hand down like a hammer toward the ground. As she did this, an enormous bolt of thunder pierced the sky and crashed down into the arena with a loud clap! Dirt would be vaporized, the arena would be glassed over and, if Phosphora weren't very lucky, she'd be flash fried on the spot. Unfortunately, speed wouldn't help her dodge something like that. When the speed of light was challenged, by the time your eyes saw the attack coming it had already hit you. She'd need to get out of dodge before it even came down.

Phosphora's headache slowly susbsided as Arle's Mind Blast faded away. Phosphora got to her feet and prepared herself for Arle's next move. Through the slight haze that the Mind Blast left on her, Phosphora could hear Arle protesting about...taking her mount away?

"Whoa whoa, hey. Who said anything about separating you two? If I was going to take your mount back to the Lunar Sanctum, obviously you'd be coming with." Phosphora told her. Hmm. Looks like Phosphora has some other motive then just testing Arle's power.

As Phosphora finished speaking, she saw Arle flying toward her, seemingly attempting to land a high speed punch while on her squirrel. Out of reflex, Phosphora generated an electric barrier around herself for some protection.

(Phosphora activates her Electric Shield! Deals 5% damage to anyone near her, and blocks melee attacks unless the attacker can roll 10+ CON.)

Her preparations were mostly in vain, as Arle's approach turned out to be one big fake out. A fake out that....she didn't even capitalize on. "Who are you trying to impress, Arle?" Phosphora commented "If your trying to impress me, then you've already succeeded."

Arle come out of that fake out  holding up a piece sign, but she didn't seem to attack. As Phosphora watched her, everything around her started speeding up. Faster and faster the world seemed to move. What was this? Was this some sort of meddling on Sonic's part? Whatever the case, Phosphora didn't like it.

Before Phosphora even realize what was happening, a powerful electric surge wracked her body. You'd think that being an electric goddess-type-thing would give her some kind of immunity to the element. No such luck. And as if everything wasn't moving fast enough, Phosphora was moving even slower then she realized, the bolt of lightning slowing her down even more.

Impress? Arle hesitated a moment to continue fighting. That almost sounded like a plea for help to her. Like she was going too hard and she needed to chill out. Well, Arle was nothing if not thoughtful. "Oh... No, I was just putting on a show for... the audience." Arle replied somewhat bashfully, only to hesitantly look around. ...Did they still have an audience? She couldn't tell. "I guess I can get a little carried away... Hey, come here for a moment!" Arle went on to remark somewhat light-heartedly, flicking her wrist and tossing a magical ribbon through the air to chase down the now heavily crippled Phosphora! She knew she couldn't expect the other to listen, but damn if she didn't have her heart set on doing this. The ribbon would wrap around Phosphora's waist if it caught her before arcing back around like a boomerang and dragging Phosphora back to Arle!

X1_0Hdf6p_1d20+4 (Arle's Deep Forest Ribbon; Grapples Phosphora, so that she may be subjected to things. You don't have to dodge it. I probably wouldn't, but the option is there.)

With wide eyes, Arle moved to accept Phosphora into her arms bridal style to prevent her from getting hurt or thrown by the ribbon. Normally she might've followed that up with an attack, but that wasn't what this was all about. Instead, she just wound up apologetically smiling like a dork at the taller girl now cradled in her arms. "...Sorry. Here, let me heal you." Arle went on to quietly relent. It was really obvious she liked Phosphora, but it probably hadn't been obvious to this extent before now. It was a bit stupid when you thought about it, healing your opponent during a fight. It didn't make much sense, unless you were Arle.

"Healing!"

As the light enveloped Arle's body, it spread to Phosphora's and embued her with a soothing warmth, easing her pain and freeing her from the slow hell Arle had put her in. All assuming she played along, anyway. It'd be a shame if she just got zapped for her efforts. That being said, the audience seemed to like the display of sisterly love going on in the arena. Maybe not as much as a good beatdown, but it certainly got a heartwarming reaction. When the golden light faded from their embrace, Arle would open her eyes and smile brightly at Phosphora. "...We don't have to keep fighting, if you're all tapped out. I don't think I'm ready to face Viridi though. I... I still don't know what to say to her." Arle quietly offered to the other. For a good long moment she didn't let Phosphora go, just kinda off-handedly cuddling her without realizing the time for holding had passed. But then, it abruptly hit her and her cheeks turned a bit red. There she went again, letting her subconscious desires for love and-or affection take over. She would loosen her grasp on Phosphora and lower her a bit, resting her weight against the flying squirrel's back. She was allowing the other to leave her arms.

If she wanted to, of course. Arle wouldn't just drop her if she was enjoying herself.

You know, people'd expect with all of the intense action going on, the announcer would be having a field day! ...sadly though, there came a small price to pay for the crazed hedgehog(?)'s abrupt transformation of both himself and their surroundings.

The poor life sphere's processing power just ain't what it used to be.

Buffering back into consciousness; Sanic's near-constant smile faltered, at first confused as for what had happened while he was gone. "Woah... The fast was so fast I couldn't even track the fast!" His voice whining through the microphone, the speedy meme focused in on the fighters, ready to give this battle an ending it deserved. "WHO CARES THOUGH! THIS ACTION IS WAY PAST KOOL!"

"On one hand, Phosphora was doing great just now! Her speed was so great not even the fastest and strongest attack Arle did could even catch the force of nature... Until now! Only thing faster than lightning is the THUNDER THAT COMES BEFORE!" Either not knowing or not caring that thunder actually occurred after lightning in nature, the memeing demon began whirling around so fast a mess of cords began tangling him; suspending the hog as he fell out of the booth's window, dangling like a dank piñata.

"Is this it? Is the now grounded Phosphera down for the count for good! ....it looks like Arle's about to finish it off with some kind of grapp-no... wait..."

"She's healing her..."

Feeling like maybe Arle had misunderstood the concept of fighting an opponent, Sanic mustered up some encouraging words for the both of them. "Ahem...Come on, step it up! There's only 1 minute left remaining in this battle; so don't waste it!"
