Alright, this is the big decision now. Good thing I decided to do this one while everyone is busy playing SSB 3DS. Anyway, the topic: our combat system. Currently we do not have a concrete system, some people like to use dice to decide dodges while others like to use logic and reasoning instead to try to make sense of it, but still play fairly. This leaves everyone to playing fairly inconsistently and can definitely be seen as a problem. Personally as long as people are playing fairly I don't see an issue, but we might need to change things up in order to make everything more fair. I have a couple of ideas to change up our current dynamic.

One choice we have is to lean more toward a DnD style combat system where everyone has stats, rolls to attack, and rolls for just about everything else. This route will require the most amount of re-working of the site and we'll basically have to update everything, but in turn we will have a no bias type of system where nothing is assumed during combat and everything will be definitive. This will also probably mean that a singular post is going to take much longer to write, but at least it ensures that everyone is playing fairly.

The second option we have is to make combat in threads more like the Sunshine Stadium, a sort of DnD-light style where everything will be more dodge oriented rather than having everything be dictated by a dice. We could include stats here as well, though they would be more for reference rather than for modifiers. (DnD light and Sunshine Stadium rules will count toward the same vote, but if one has more votes than the other it will be what we pick).

The third option we have is to change nothing and go on without change, since again there have only been very few cases where player characters have gone out of line.

I just can't quite decide...

I'd like to keep things the way they are, but with slight modification for certain instances. Obviously in the arena using D&D Lite would be good... in mission threads if the creator wants it to be used, and in certain unfortunate instances during missions it could be requested by an admin for reasons. But I wouldn't want it to become mandatory or a necessity for every thread.

Mostly what I would like to see is for those that do prefer using dice rolls there are set modifiers so we have a consistent system for what a +2 vs a +4 means. For those that do play D&D we know how much a big deal a +4 is; even +3 isn't something normally within the reach of starting characters unless they tank other stats.

At the current time it's left up to the judgement of each individual and everyone has different scales. However if we use a more D&D/Pathfinder modifier/stat system for characters everyone will have a consistent scale. Then we could utilize the ranking system to award characters who finish 5 missions with the ability to add a +1 to one of their stats. Or something of that like instead of the current rewards for reaching a new character rank for mission completions.

Then we don't have those who don't put in modifiers, or only use modifiers for environmental or very situational bonuses/minuses, vs. those who put in modifiers because they view their character as stronger than they are fast so get a +3 every time they roll something they believe is related to strength. Those people will always succeed more often than those who only use situational modifiers. There needs to be more of a balance.

So I vote for Other! Yes I want a declared system for consistency, but I want it to be optional in some threads.

I completely agree with Cielmira and wish to second her vote. I've felt the same way and brought up the same points to myself and in the chat for some of them. I too wish to vote for Cielmira's Other! Option. Bringing the vote for optional consistency based on thread to 2.
