The sun was beaming through the bubble of the Life Sphere brightening up Rainbow Square. Friendly citizens from all over were celebrating in various ways. Some were playing tennis, while others were enjoying a game of basketball or rag time games such as popping balloons with darts, tossing a soft ball into the barrel, or bobbing for apples, there was so much to choose from and so much to do! Those that weren't quite as athletic would sit and chat at the restaurants in the area outside with umbrella shaded tables and drinks in their hands. Food was being had and enjoyed by several patrons watching all the activities from afar and enjoying the company of their eating buddies as well as the relaxation. There was just masses upon masses of every race and color packing into the square with their own pleasantries and fancies being tickled by numerous distractions around them.
Live Music was being played by a Pianta band near the Tennis Courts singing and strumming tunes of anything from The Mushroom Kingdom all the way to the lands of Hyrule, and they are even taking requests, too! Juggling Hyrulians are nearby showing off their razor sharp focus skills while a trainer and his Pokemon were doing an acrobatic number right next to them. The Toads were going back and forth helping relay guest traffic with the Police HQ troopers as well as running food and drinks all over the square to hungry citizens. A team of Goombas and Koopa Troopas were doing a music number of their own with the Goombas playing the Koopas shells like drums and singing some loud gibberish, which isn't exactly pleasant to the ears. Some Kremlings were playing a game of cards challenging anyone to face them in their game at a corner table outside a far off restaurant, and a few Egg Bots were cleaning the streets and picking up trash beneath their robotic feet to keep a neat and tidy setting. There was dozens of other groups and crowds of all kinds talking and chatting amongst themselves looking like their having a blast and soaking in the sun and fun.
Meanwhile, Mario, Sonic, and Samus were standing right behind a large square wooden stage near a Pianta statue and exactly diagonally right of the tennis court. They could not be seen at all because they were hiding themselves to huddle and prep for their announcement before showing their faces to the entire Life Sphere Community of four thousand plus strong. Sonic was trying to listen and participate in their little group huddle but he looked incredibly bored and uninterested in talking at all to anyone while Samus and Mario were hashing out their speech.
Samus spoke as she typically did, with directness, sincerity, and honesty. She was not the type of person to spew out any bull crap, she would tell anyone exactly how it is and how things need to go down, dealing with Mario and Sonic's tantrums for the past three years was harsh enough, but even worse, now they have to work together to address an entire community. It will not be an easy task, especially since all three of them don't entirely enjoy saying more than a few sentences at a time.
"Now boys, we are going to go up there and tell everyone the cold hard truth. They aren't going to like hearing it, but what choice do we have? I sure as hell am NOT going to tell them myself, especially last time when we all had to defend the Life Sphere together, that was a near fatality in and of itself, and I am not taking the full reigns to be the leader again, especially not with speeches. We divide it up, and take turns, no questions even asked."
Samus could tell Sonic wasn't caring for her words and she folded her arms giving him an evil eye which can even be seen underneath her helmet in a steel cut gaze. Mario was at least trying to listen, though his lack of wit really didn't help his case any as he scratched his head and adjusted his collar in a sweat clearly nervous for speaking in front of so many. Sonic couldn't take the stare any longer and grumbled.
Sonic never enjoyed speaking up against Samus, but he supposed this time it was warranted and he had to fess up.
"Okay fine alright metal girl? I ain't really listenin to you. But understand me when I say, you still should have given me that Chili Dog lunch break during our little brain storming session earlier, because I am starvin! Just give me the punch line of this little speech to the weaklings and bucket heads out there and I can be on my way..."
Sonic had no sympathy in his voice for the people of the Life Sphere, he just wanted to continue doing his solo act to figure out a way to stop the Starvia, but ofcourse, he was still getting nowhere and was mainly just looking to keep himself busy these days with mindless semantics. Three years on this planet has obviously hardened him and he wasn't entirely interested in prolonging the inevitable any more.
Mario was starting to wish Sonic just kept his trap shut and ran off leaving Samus and the plumber to do the speech themselves. The hedgehog was practically useless when it came to following direction or speaking with respect and dignity, this did not please the chubby Italian man.
"Listena here you little balla of stinky blue cheesa! We are going to do thisa ONE thinga together. And you are going to saya your fewa words so the big boya and big girla Samus can take over da show! I swear you needa to learn some manners! We worked harda to practice this speecha while you were playinga happy feet all over da planeta making us all wonder where you'vea been. Nowa you needa to stick around and be responsiblea for once in youra short life!"
Mario's face was red and drenched in sweat as he talked down Sonic to teach him an invaluable lesson of teamwork and fessing up to responsibilities especially as a leader figure to many. Samus giggled under her breath from Mario's outburst as Sonic seemed unswayed by his rant leaning on a nearby light pole and closing his eyes to imagine him in another place far away. He opened his eyes back up when the plumber was done and played off being sleepy.
"Sorry? What was that? I fell asleep on the count of your lame whiny yapping."
Mario raised a fist to Sonic in opposition and shook it with his face getting even more red than before.
"Whya YOUUUU!!!!"
Sonic leaned off the pole and got into a battle ready stance.
"Bring it on chubby! Don't have a heart attack before you take a step. I'll be gone before your next heartbeat red man!"
Mario was about to step forward but Samus got in between them and shook her head as if shaking off a migraine. She was seriously sick of this bickering by now.
"Enough is enough boys. We are going to go over the speech ONE more time, TOGETHER, then we can address everybody got it?"
Mario and Sonic both remain silent and turn away from eachother, arms folded.
"Okay then. Now...from the top....the big news....here we go."
The three start discussing their speech and rehearsing it in hardly audible murmurs secretly behind the stage preparing for the biggest announcement in the history of the Life Sphere.

It was a surprisingly peaceful and joyous day for once in the Life Sphere. Shadow had never seen so many people gather together since....well, since the ambush years ago. He tried to forget such a memory and bowed his head for a moment as if to remember those whom have fallen. He didn't even want to imagine what would come of the Life Sphere had everyone been successfully destroyed and defeated by that attack, it was plain slaughter which those in the sphere were just barely able to fend off. He looked around to take in the gift of today, cherishing what he was seeing with so many happy faces, even laughter filling the air. Regardless of how much fun everyone was having, Shadow still chose to be alone. He found a table near the card playing Kremlings far into a corner under the darkness of a roof lip and took out the Cerebral Sphere, an item he was given to by Samus all those years ago.
The item allowed his memories to come to life as illusions, living depictions. He felt it was finally time in this rare occasion of celebration to allow his memories of Maria to come full circle. He cupped it in his hands and it began to glow. His mind was enlightened and suddenly alert as a living depiction of Maria stood in front of him. She looked like she did so long ago, as if in the flesh, and his eyes sagged in such emotion he could feel the tenderness though she wasn't actually there. It was a ghost, a projection of her soul that only he would understand the meaning of. She reached out for a hug whispering Shadow's name; "Shadow...Shadow...My beloved Shadow....don't be sad....come to me....let me soothe you..." Shadow stood from his seat knowing it was just an illusion and reached out to touch her, but she dissipated away.
In anger the hedgehog fell to his knees and bashed the table with his fist. "No..NO!" He didn't scream or produce tears out of this reaction, but he lowered his head and scratched the ground as if her grave was before him and he wanted to pluck her out back into the world of the living. It was useless, there was no point in denying the truth, she was gone and he was still heartbroken, such a thing will never be forgotten. Shadow then reached for the Cerebral Sphere and stashed it away again. He was tempted to break it so he would never have to see his locked away memories in living color ever again. But he didn't, he simply put it back into the large tuft of fur on his chest storing it away and shut his eyes fighting tears and opened them again once he felt content to observe the masses in the area. He may not be able to experience joy or happiness like the others can, but for a while....for just a little while....maybe he can try.

Celebrating What?
The Festival....
The Festival....
Ah the Life Sphere, such a place made Dark Link want to vomit out his intestines to darken up the floor a little bit, everything looked so happy and uppity, he was not enjoying himself like the others at all. Once more he had to robe himself to blend in or else be seen as evil scum or an Infected intruder, he wasn't the smartest, but he also wasn't careless.
His version of fun and good times wasn't anything going on that he was seeing, not sports, or party games, or mingling....no....he wanted fights to the death, alcohol, and Link's head on a stick. He was way too creative to participate in anything trendy or supposedly fun inducing. He was already dying of boredom and the utter need for bloodshed and destruction. He guessed he could chase someone down to challenge in the stadium, but that might give away his presence, he needed to be on the down low or else be fed to the police for suspicious activity, or...well...just looking creepy and suspicious.
The dark one decided to go where the biggest groups of people were ducking in and out of conversations trying to look busy and all citizen like. He felt absolutely stupid doing such things but it was necessary for his acceptance in such an area. Eventually however, he started getting hungry and eying the various places to eat around him. He wasn't entirely human, but he did love food, if not moreso than any other living being.
As Dark Link looked around he could spot a certain red speckled hedgehog in the corner looking not very happy, but depressed and unsettled. He was instantly drawn to him for he too, seemed to dwell in darkness. He didn't make his way to the hedgehog though, not yet anyway, but he did notice him and noted his seating choice so far away from the action. The blackened warrior decided to go sit at a snack bar for restaurants can be pricey and bring too much attention, and the snack bar beyond didn't look very busy, so he headed there.
He weaved his way through the crowds and made it to the desired snack bar. A ghost like creature of all things was manning the bar, it was white and round in shape with a big tongue, he believed they were called Boo's. They weren't exactly human or living either, and Dark Link seemed pleased to see him. Dark Link pointed to a delicious bag of peppered potato chips then at a sardine sandwhich below without saying anything hoping the ghost would know. Dark Link then smiled in a cheesy fashion thinking that's all he'd need to express for food.
The Boo looked at him and echoed a laugh understanding him after a brief pause giving him his chips and sandwhich and then letting out his hand for some coins. Dark Link looked puzzled and felt around in his pockets, he had no currency to give, but he did have a rock he had found earlier that he used for sharpening his blade and dagger and stuck it in the Boo's ghostly hand. Boo responded with a big tongue being stuck out at Dark Link and then poofed behind him gesturing for him to get lost.
Dark Link held tight to his food and nodded dashing away to a place in the shadows. He saw the alleyway to the Black Market and headed there stopping behind a dumpster right where Rainbow Square ended and hid from the Boo in case it found him later. This was certainly not very fun to him at all. He unwrapped his sandwhich and opened his bag of chips gorging himself very satisfied with his delicious selections. He was banking on finishing his meal in peace, but who knows.
