“--That's it! That's the book I used in the mirage!”
Amitwo gestured and twirled about before a somewhat mundane and dusty looking book recovered from the Primp Library, waiting for Miss Accord to help her pull it out. She couldn't remove or open it herself, of course. She'd asked for her teacher's help in finding the book, as she'd probably know the library's contents better than most. It was the second book they'd found that Amitwo recognized.

Once the book was down and open, she began to watch as her teacher helped her look through it. She felt a little bad asking for all this help, but what else could she do? She wasn't physically capable of it, no matter how hard she tried. Just then though, a familiar diagram caught her eye. “--This is it! This is the ritual. After I tried this one here, I was finally able to get through to Li!” Amitwo exclaimed.
Upon closer inspection, this ritual was a form of very advanced magic that utilized transmutation to overcome the limits of conjuration or portal based teleportation, which are generally limited to the third dimension. The specific diagram she had pointed out showed a picture of two planets, On one planet, a crude drawing of a person was printed. On the other, an anchor. A one directional arrow pointed toward the planet with an anchor on it. The relevant text talked about anchoring yourself to your destination somewhere to bridge the gap between worlds and then performing a delayed ritual that utilized power from both the destination and the ritual itself, as well as breaking the caster down into energy to immensely reduce the energy required to perform the ritual. This energy would then be used to essentially recreate the user at the destination.
Or at least, that's how the spell was intended to work. The spell was intended to take a human and produce a human. What would happen, though, if it took a mirage--an imitation of a human lacking a soul--and tried to create a human with a soul?
"...Um--Ami? Where did you anchor yourself to?" Rider, the doppelganger of Lidelle who had technically come to Li with Amitwo, albeit not technically alive or fully conscious, curiosity asked. “...Good question!” Amitwo replied, pausing for a moment to think back on the day she'd left the mirage. She remembered standing there before a magic circle, carefully drawn runes staining the ground with ink. Rider was by her side, watching out of concern as she worked. She remembered it being the last time she felt whole--like a human. It all felt so real... Things had gone dark after the spell kicked in and began converting her to energy. She'd lost consciousness before she'd ever had a chance to see the spell begin to draw at Rider as well, searching for something to use as fuel to recreate her new form--her new soul.
...But nothing in the mirage had a soul. ...Right?
“...I dunno!” Amitwo replied after she was finished thinking. Rider gave her a funny look at her response. “I wasn't sure how to find one so I just started guessing and I guess I got lucky! On my first try, actually.” Amitwo replied. Rider paused for a moment to consider this, but was too meek to comment. That seemed ... unlikely. "...Ami--Do you um--Do you think you could still be anchored?" Rider tentatively asked.
...And that was how Amitwo wound up on a journey to find out where on Li her energy was coming from. A simple enough divination spell had made the normally invisible energy flowing through her visible, creating a sort of bluish white stream flowing into her body. All she had to do was track it down to its source, right..? ...It turned out this entailed traveling across Li. The stream entering her body turned out to come from what appeared to be a 'river' of energy in the sky, from which she was siphoning only a comparatively little amount of energy. It would actually take quite a while to track down the origins of this 'river'. Finally, the stream seemed to dip down into the ground near a strange cave leading down into the earth.
