Yōko would be in the Sunshine Stadium once again, calmly observing her surroundings. While the people were flocking to the stands, they would have hardly noticed that the young girl in their midst was there until they took their seats.

"We wonder... Who will be our opponent this time around." Yōko mused aloud, patiently waiting for someone to come through the arena doors to face them.

[Mr. Game & Watch]

With blurred vision and foggy hearing, the flat man had a difficult time grasping the world around himself as anything feasible. It seemed like everything was just out of reach, save for the melodious tone of a voice that felt like it was echoing from afar. Calling out to him. It was the only tether he had to the conscious world, so he followed it, expended his strength so that he wouldn’t just fall back to sleep. His heavy, yet flat head rose from the sheets, gazing forward at the blurry image of someone standing over his hospital bed.

“Hey chump! You up yet!?” the nurse blustered from her lips. Odd, she sounded much nice when he couldn’t understand her…

Mr. Game & Watch’s head shook, suddenly and miraculously revitalized. Why, he could even sit upright without being supported by several pillows. He looked around the room with such wonder and awe. He could see everything so clearly, better than he had in… However long he’s been in the hospital for. The nurse could say he’d been in that bed for a decade and he would believe her whole heartedly.

Before he could pontificate about the wonders of the world and how great it was to be fully conscious again, Nurse Joy snapped to his attention again. “Good you’re awake. Listen, we got more patients than we do beds, you’re on your way out, so let’s get you out of here as quick as we can.”

Game & Watch tilted his head in confusion. He was leaving? Last time he checked he was a permanent resident, donating his shadow buggy blood for Starvia testing. The lady looked rather bemused by his inherit confusion. “I swear if I have to tell…” she muttered under her breath. “The research team has enough Shadow Bugs to last them a lifetime. How close we are to a cure… Well, you’re going to have to ask them.” The nurse turned away then, grabbing a clipboard off her desk. “I’m just going to have to do some tests on your vitals and you’ll be free-” she looked up from her clipboard. “…And he’s gone” she lamented, gaze following the trail from his tossed aside sheets to the suddenly open window on the other side of the room. It was only opened a slit, but that was all he needed.

Meanwhile, back at the coliseum. The silhouette of a man with a parachute descended from above, gently gliding through the wind until his flat feet slapped against the ground. The magnificent Mr. Game & Watch stoically planted his fists against his hips and laughed with off-beat beeps. Humbled as he might be, he couldn’t deny that he owed the Life Sphere a show, one for the good old days! These kids probably weren’t even around for his glorious fights in the Sunshine Stadium.

While it was presumptuous to assume that just falling into the stadium meant that he would find a match on the spot, he knew that there were some glory hounds out there, ones bumbling about the stadium grounds, itching for a fight. Without any struggle, his vision fell upon one such person. A foxy lady. A challenger!

The flatzone fighter pulled out his trusty hammer and thrusted it forth, pointing at his new challenger enthusiastically.

Donating his body for science was good and all, but he had to put himself out there, become relevant again. Adventure didn’t come to those who lie in bed all day!

Yōko would simply look at Mr. Game & Watch, followed simply by giving a chuckle. "Never thought we'd see the day where we fight a two-dimensional person before." Yōko said, her eyes opening to reveal a literally supernatural golden hue, though Yōko simply smiled politely to her opponent.

"We hope you enjoy this bout, because we shall not be holding anything back." Yōko said calmly as they walked over to their opponent and gave them a friendly pat on the shoulder before shedding their human form to reveal their true self, a pure white fox spirit Yokai reminiscent of the tale of the nine tailed fox, only this Yokai was purely female.

And it didn't take long before Yōko unleashed a Foxfire combo against the flat man.

[Mr. Game & Watch]

The boasts made by the fox spirit simply made Mr. Game & Watch scoff. A two-dimensional person? He was the two-dimensional person, and she was going to quickly learn why. The flat man remained in his standing position, awaiting the moment that their referee would make some sort of comedic entrance and hear the charming interactions between MC Ballyhoo and Big Top over the intercom. The longer he waited though, the more confused he became. They usually didn’t take so long to arrive.

Before he knew it, the yokai was right next to him, patting him on the shoulder and morphing her body with a strange glow. These kids and their fancy pants transformations, back in his day people had one form and they liked it!

As she switched to her true form, it stumped him for a second. The white fur, the red symbols, the general canine appearance. She looked oddly familiar. Almost like that one dog creature that really hated his pet goldfish. Were they the same person?

Before he could dwell on that thought further, his opponent decided that the match was set. The barrage of fireballs was a bit unexpected considering that he was still waiting for the referee to come around. By the looks of it, they weren’t coming, and he supposed he would have to live with that. No time to react, just DODGE!

Just when he thought he managed to jump out of harm’s way, he landed right in range for another fire ball to singe his back. He dipped and rolled, but again got smacked by fire. Just when he was within range of getting licked by another set of flames, he pulled out his trusty bug spray and blasted at the ground, rocketing up into the air. Pulling out his parachute, he laughed in mire at his opponent failed attempt to cook him alive, but just because he was out of the fire, it didn’t mean he was out of the fire just yet! His foe puffed a cloud of acid from their mouth and spat it directly at him. His mouth fell open in disgust. Nuh-uh, that was going in the bucket.

The acidic mist swirled into Mr. Game & Watch’s bucket, quickly converting to black goop once it sloshed inside. Given that he couldn’t maintain the parachute and the bucket at the same time, he quickly plummeted to the ground. As his feet fell flat, he heard the bellowing curdle of flames creeping up behind him. He quickly spun his head about, still wielding the bucket. As his vision settled on the hellish blast of fire barreling toward him, he realized that he didn’t have a bucket big enough to contain that. No amount of fancy footwork would save him either, so he summoned his bubble shield to protect him until the flickering flames washed away.

What little he had left of his bubble shield sunk back into his person; the landscape being reduced to smoldering ash save for the place that he stood. He survived, but he couldn’t be on the defensive forever! It was time for a counter attack!

The fox creature didn’t look like much of a bug, but the sickening fumes of his bug spray would work all the same! The two-dimensional creature waddled his way forth, as fast as his two framed walk cycle could manage. He launched forward, puffing some smog into her face, then suddenly appeared at her side, hitting the pump again, then appearing above her head and puffing the spray one last time before landing behind her with his hands in the air as he sticked the landing.

He wasn’t done just yet though, his physical body flipped around facing his opponent once more. His head morphed into a deep sea diving helmet, a charging glow arising from the tip of it before he smashed it forward, in an attempt to knock the fox spirit off her feet.

That wasn’t all just yet, whether he struck his opponent off her feet or she simply evaded his previous attack, he launched after her again, pulling his trusty hammer out from the ether. A sign post emerged out of his other hand and the roulette wheel spun.

The judgement hammer was not charged with any significant power, but its swing was unnaturally faster than usual. The judgement hammer was always a crowd pleaser, how could someone not love its random nature?
