Social Mission / Plot Hook

The LeBlanc Café on Brightwing Lane.

Variant Rules

• Most actions will not require a roll. Players may do as they please, go where they'd like, and investigate as they best see fit. The only action that would require a roll is hiding your true feelings. If you wish to remain discreet about your experiences or suppress your emotions, communicate that in your post. If Sojiro has a reason to pry, he'll make a contested check against your character's Charisma. Fair warning: It's Sojiro's cafe, so he'll receive a significant advantage when rolling these checks.

• Once everyone has entered the café, each character will have five posts to tell an engaging story about their life before Li. They may do so however they'd like. Your character may monologue. They may reminisce. They could brood as they stare into the inky blackness of Sojiro's coffee. However you choose to do it, your goal is to captivate us with your character's story!

• Sojiro will occasionally ask you a question. Try to acknowledge it in your post, if you're able. Sating Sojiro's curiosity will earn you extra brownie points. Additionally, try to ask questions. Good café guests will engage with each other. If you want to see another roleplayer's story move a different direction, ask a relevant question. The more you respond to these questions, the livelier LeBlanc will get. If the café is lively enough, everyone will earn the World's Best Curry as though they've completed Sojiro's sub-mission.

Mission Brief

You've seen fliers posted around Brightwing Lane advertising the grand re-opening of a homey coffee-and-curry café. It's nestled into a residential sector. Close enough to Rainbow Square to receive foot traffic, but far enough from the hustle-and-bustle to keep its rustic charm. The venue is cute, and the smokestack always gives off the smell of fresh ginger and cocoa. For one reason or another, you decided to sign up for this café's mailing list. They send you updates every once in a blue moon. Today, one such update finds itself in your inbox. It reads:

From: Sojiro Sakura, LeBlanc Café. 

Subject: EXCLUSIVE Midnight Preview 

Hey, mailing list. It's Sojiro.

I own and operate the LeBlanc Café. I'm gonna thank you all for taking an interest in this little business endeavor. LeBlanc served Yogen-Jaya and the greater Tokyo area for five years, and we're not about to let a planar shift get in the way of that. You can trust that I'm not gonna stop making the perfect cup of coffee for everyone that walks through my doors. But, listen- I'm not going to sit here and claim that I know what you all want out of a cup of joe. So here's the deal.

I'm gonna open up a few seats for a midnight preview. The night before we open, a few of you are going to get the chance to grab a bite early. In exchange, all I ask is that you let me know what's happening around the Life Sphere. I wanna have a rapport with my customers, and that starts with getting to know 'em, you know? Please reply to this email if you're interested in giving my coffee a try. Be quick about it, too. I've only got so many barstools to offer.

Objective: Tell Sojiro about your life before Li.

Sojiro wants to know more about his clientele. He'll treat you to a cup of coffee if you open up to him. Be warned, though. The chief can be tough to talk to.

Sub-Objective: See below.
Reminisce about the life you had or monologue like a character in a surly South Korean drama. Above the table, we're looking for posts that grip and compel us! If you want to earn the sub-reward, you'll have to do more than skim the surface. You'll have to get to the heart of your character's life before the events of the campaign - and use Sojiro's questions to move your story forward.

A local delicacy. Sojiro picked them up before he knew they were sentient, so he's more than happy to get them off his hands.

"Huh...A Coffee shop?" Mac would ask, Raising a brow and curiously approaching the door, At Midnight of all times, Mac was Hungry, So, He didnt particularly mind coming so late if it meant free food. Only for a Bell of a Bike to ring nearby. "Hey Mac! Lookin' for a Pick Me up at this time of night? I was following up on the Flyer myself!" Doc Louis would ask, Setting his bike on a nearby bike rack, as Mac would nervously chuckle. "I know, its not good for me, But, I think i could use--" Mac would say, before Doc Louis let out a hearty laugh, Patting Mac's Back. "Think Nothin' on it Mac Baby! Come on, I'll treat you this time!" Doc would say, Before both he and Mac (Mac wearing his favorite pink jumpsuit, Hood down), Entered inside!

Reva found herself looking over the print out of the email she'd received from Sojiro. The armored woman finally coming to a stop at the front door of the cafe. Her deep green eyes looking over the small building as the moon shined down upon it. A soft smile crossing her face as she sniffed the air a bit, it smelled wonderful, hell that was the main reason she'd signed up for this in the first place. But now? She had the chance to actually see what was inside."Well, no sense in keeping the man waiting... I just hope he doesn't mind the armor..." With that, the knight gingerly opened the door and entered the shop.

Ed HATED technology.

Don't get him wrong, it was a miracle what this stuff could do, and he was amazed it had ever been invented. He just wished it hadn't been such a damn pain to figure out how to use. It had taken him a solid 2 days just to figure out how to sign up for that stupid mailing list. Which is why Sojiro got this email in response.

"It's about damn time. I had to figure out how to even use email to sign up for this mailing list, so this better be a damn good cup of coffee. Looking forward to it.

Okay. So it was a bit rude. But he felt it was warranted considering what he had to go through just to get a decent cup of coffee.
