Saffron
One Step From Eden
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Motto: "Friendship might be magic, but so is this!"
Allies/Friends: Hazel
Enemies/Rivals: Everyone by default.
Backstory: In the depths of the military R&D department, Saffron designed powerful, experimental spells that were never meant to be used. Thankfully, even the military had the sense to lock the most dangerous of these up, marking them "Calamity".
After the chaos of the war, the Calamity spells were missing. She knew they had to be found, and she was the only one who could find them.
--End of Actual Available Canon Backstory. Beginning of Mine---
In a bleak post-war world with one shining beacon of hope, Eden, Saffron sought to find the calamity spells and take them for herself, only to find that others were already after them. She killed a lot of people, either to survive or to stop them from pursuing the spells. And she even managed to get her hands upon one calamity spell herself. Few and far between were her real friends.
History On Li: Having carved a path through the broken world, Saffron finally found herself approaching Eden. In fairly... meh health due to a dry streak of not eating anything of proper nutritional value, she was grateful to find a sanctuary where she could rest and recuperate for a while before going back out to continue her search. She'd never been there before, and she was quite eager to see what it was like.
As she approached Eden though, a dark portal appeared before her and drew her in, spitting her back out it a moment later with a thud on Li. Briefly confused by this, she continued onward to find the Life Sphere--slaying several infected on her way. Mistaking it for Eden, she happily marched on in.
Primary Attacks (3)
Baz's Whip: This whip carries a lightning bolt in every strike. However, it discharges with each hit, having 6 charges to start with. It can be recharged for three charges at a time using an action. When the whip is cracked, it launches a lightning bolt from its tip. This variant uses Wis to attack. It can also simply be directly used to whip someone, shocking them in the process, using Dex. It does 24% damage when used this way. Its charges can also be used to lasso enemies, doing 4% damage and afflicting them with both burn and paralysis. Or it could be used to trip someone by coiling around their leg and shocking it, doing 9% damage and stunning them. |
Ragnarok: Summon a giant energy sword to crash down on an opponent, striking the ground with immense force and sending a shockwave of energy radiating outward a good 20 feet. Costs 2 mana. When it crits, it can crit confirm twice on the person it strike directly for a total of 3x potential damage. 1 turn cooldown. (Heavy Wis Attack; Does 30% Damage) |
Sunshine: This Calamity Spell summons an artificial sun that projects intense sunlight on an area, burning everything. Since you cannot reasonably be expected to dodge Light Itself, it targets CON instead. For every 2 points the target fails their resistance roll by, they suffer a stack of an awful sunburn that makes their bodies more sensitive and brittle, causing them to take 1 extra damage. This debuff can only be dispelled by healing, and is dispelled at a rate of 1 stack per 10 healing. lasts 3 turns. The attack also afflicts blind for 1 turn if the target fails a wis roll of 12+. Costs 2 mana. 4 turn cooldown. (Heavy Wis Attack; Does 30% Damage) |
Special Attacks (3)
Soul Food: Roguelike Simulator! Saffron can use spells to consume and devour enemies! As a balancing factor for this mechanic, she starts off any thread with -20 Max HP. When a character is devoured by Saffron and spends at least 4 turns in her belly or is defeated, she metabolizes them and absorbs their power! This comes in the form of a +1 to two stat modifiers and a stolen attack. Normally the two stats are constitution and one of their two highest other stats, and she can choose which attack to steal. However, for shenanigans sake or with NPCs who may not have set stats/moves, the thread leader can simply make something up. Once the thread ends though, the boost to their constitution does not persist to other threads and any OP moves must be rebalanced to fit player balancing. She can choose not to replace the boosts and associated moves she already has when eating new enemies, instead gaining only the +1 to her con mod. |

The following are the sub-moves for this mechanic:
Devour: This spell summons a giant snake's head to chow down on an opponent! When hit, they are banished to Saffron's stomach and afflicted with the Digestion Status. She can carry 3 devour spell cards on-hand at any given time, and can spend an action to summon 2 more. Leech: This spell summons magical jaws to chomp down on and tenderize a foe while draining a bit of their life away! Does 12 damage and heals Saffron for half the damage dealt. For every time the opponent is hit by this, she gains a +1 to devour attempts against that foe. She can carry 3 leech spell cards on-hand at any given time, and can spend an action to summon 2 more.
Meat Shield: This spell can be used while there is a prisoner within Saffron! It is a counter attack where Saffron uses her stomach to block an oncoming attack. If she needs to intercept the attack, she can roll to get in the way by beating it with a dex roll. She then rolls CON. The damage she takes is reduced by the value of this roll (Minimum of 5) and is taken by her shield if available. This offset damage is then taken by whoever is in her belly instead. If the damage is reduced to 10 or below and is fully taken by her shield, the cooldown is reduced by 1 turn. 2 turn cooldown. Corset: This spell tightens the gut not unlike a corset. It can be used to pull off a more ladylike figure, exchanging a -1 to any rolls you make using a physical stat for a +1 to all charisma rolls. Y'know, assuming you can pull the look off.
Or, when cast on someone who has eaten someone else. This takes the form of an 16% damage squeezing attack with a +2 to its accuracy can be resisted with con. The damage can be increased by 2% at a 1% recoil penalty, up to a maximum of 26%. 1 turn cooldown
Screw the rules; I have money!: This weird 'Duel Disk', whatever that's a reference to, is actually a piece of military R&D hardware used for producing spell cards on the go. It is powered by an energy crystal currency that she can generate in combat! She gains energy crystals equal to half the damage she does and the full damage she takes. She can use the duel disk once per turn as a free action, as it is a hands-free device.
|
Grail: Summon a large holy grail that absorbs residual power from the world around it to heal Saffron and/or her allies. If it's destroyed however, it heals nothing. The grail has 35 HP and takes -20 damage from AoEs. On the turn after it is summoned, it heals for a value equal to 1 for every 10 damage on the attacks used, rounded up, plus 1d5. On followup turns the die used increases to 2d6 and then 3d10. After the third turn of healing, the grail vanishes. 3 turn cooldown. Costs 1 mana |
Final Smash (1)
Second Soul: When Saffron would die/trophy, this final smash is automatically used. It restores her to 80 HP. She then heals for 10 additional HP each turn for 4 turns. Additionally, the first time she falls to 0 or less HP within 2 turns of using this final smash, she instead survives with 1 HP. However, if multiple characters reduce her to 0 HP in the same turn, it bypasses this mechanic. Saffron is afflicted by Severe Exhaustion and has the cooldowns of her attacks increased by 1 turn for 3 turns. |
Other Info: She starts every thread with 4/4 mana and regenerates 1 mana per turn.
Likes: Going into work on her birthday, winning arguments online, explosions
Dislikes: Bugs, budget cuts, rooms without windows, egomaniacs, being late
