“*COUGH* *COUGH* *COUGH*!!”
A couple of hours had passed since she came back from the school, and Amitie’s condition was apparently only getting worse. Ever since she came back from Hylia’s Grace with a sudden illness of sorts, she had been tucked in her bed, and fussed constantly by a certain pinkette. For now, however, she was left alone, because Raffina went to grab some medicine...or something. She couldn’t really remember what was going on, she dozed off a bit too early to hear everything. Now, she was sitting in her bed, shifting channels on her TV, remembering the talk she had before with Raffina, Naoto and Oswald.
The reveal that Raffina had a Shadow and she went berserk didn’t sit well with...pretty much everyone in the room. Now they were out there, killing people...and Raffina was most likely her primary target due to her rejection. She felt kinda dumb – after a whole round of reassuring her girlfriend she was gonna protect her and all that sweet stuff she said, she falls ill just after that. Now she’s the one that’s being taken care of.
Suppressing another cough, Amitie reached for a couple of cough drops left at her desk and a cup of water. Hesitance settled in. Naoto did say this was beyond ‘normal medical research’, which... probably meant ‘normal medicine won’t cure it’. After a moment pondering over this, she put the things back on the drawer and reached for her cell phone instead, only for her to start coughing, with a fever soon seizing her. “Nnh...it hurts...”
“What’s wrong?”
An echo in her head, and suddenly, a loud buzzing rang through her mind. Clutching her head, Amitie groaned and tried to force herself to call Naoto...only to fall to the floor in her vain attempt. As she tried getting herself up, the voice spoke to her again.
“You want to protect your friends, am I correct?”
Who was talking with her? That voice sounded a bit familiar...almost like hers. Was it her Shadow? Why did it sound so...supportive? “Yeah, I do! But...” Amitie tried speaking to the voice. To her surprise, the voice replied to her speaking out loud.
“Buuuut?”
“...I’m sick. Too sick!” Amitie replied. “I can’t even move properly now...and I dunno why!” she said. “How am I gonna do it…?” she questioned. “How am I gonna protect everyone if I can’t even walk…?”
The voice inside her head giggled. “Now, this will not do. Are you this willing to let small barricades destroy your resolve? Are you not willing to risk life and limb to those you hold dear?”
...Man, the voice inside her head was strange. Still, she asked that question, and Amitie...she definitely had her answer. “...Yes. I’ll...I'll do whatever it takes!” she said, finally standing up. "I won't let anything get in my way!"
“Perfect. Then our contract can commence.”
The ringing on her head became louder, and Amitie fell back onto the ground, closed her eyes as she writhing in excruciating pain that coursed to every part of her body. Much as she tried holding, the pain was too much and she began screaming loudly.
“I am thou, thou art I.” the voice spoke. “Shine ever brighter! Become the sun that’ll strike your foes with the scalding heat of your resolve!”
Then, a small pulse of light. At that point, the pain and the ringing suddenly ceased. Amitie reluctantly opened her eyes...to see glasses have appeared over her eyes. “Huh…?” she vocalized, trying to take them off...but they weren’t getting out of her face. She tried pushing a little harder, but that showed no progress either. After that, she used both hands instead, and it was starting to budge out, but it was getting kinda painful and...something red was coming out of her...was that--?!
Before she could reach the conclusion herself, another yelp escaped from her as pain washed over her face once she quite literally ripped off the glasses from her face...and blood covered the upper part of it. But not long after, a rising sensation of euphoria quickly overwrote the pain she felt… and she was surrounded an exploding blue light.
The blood on her face was blown away by the sheer force of the light show, her clothes were transforming into a new set, and she could feel a powerful presence forming behind her. It was then that reality hit her full.
She got what she wanted. She had awakened her very own Persona!
She turned around, meeting face to face with her personification: a humanoid figure with a red and yellow helmet accompanied by a long golden headband, whose yellow gleaming eyes stared at Amitie. They wore a trench coat made of fire that billowed with the harsh winds of the light show, and with their right hand, a big golden sword, encased in swirling fire.
As the light beam finally ceased, Amitie felt the surge of euphoria simmer down. After a few moments of silence, the Persona spoke to her. “I am Nenshō Izanagi, the Ray of Protection. From this day forth, my strength is yours.” they said. Amitie kept her eyes trained on her Persona before shifting them to the glasses in her hand. Then, with a smirk, she put them back on her face.
“Thank you, Nenshō Izanagi. I won’t let this strength you gave me go to waste. I promise!”
