"It's a new day and a new match here in Sunshine Stadium, and boy, I can feel things heating up already! You've seen Pink Sonic, you've seen Future Sonic, and we all remember our dear ex-leader, nnnot Sonic? But today we have a blue blur claiming to be the real Sonic! I had no idea he was alive! Hopefully, he's had a change of heart because there's no running away from a battle like this! Today he'll be fighting ... Dark Sonic?? I'm pretty sure that's not what I originally wrote, but enough introductions. Today is a sudden death match, which will put our combatants' speed and dexterity to the test! Move fast enough and you might be able to catch one of the bob-ombs that will rain down onto the battlefield before it explodes and use it against your opponents! Hold onto your chairs, because this is going to be one explosive battle!"

Shadow centered himself on his side of the stadium when he heard the "Dark Sonic" comment. Really? People are still getting him mixed up with Sonic? The striped hedgehog had met more people here personally at this point, and was even in a mission with the announcer (albeit he was knocked out during that mission) but she seriously got him mixed up with the blue blur? Shadow rolled his eyes. Whatever. In all honesty, no one could comprehend the amount of crap he didn't give. Right now he was focusing on the one person that mattered at the moment: his first opponent in the tournament. 

And if it turned out he won this match, there was no doubt this would be one of his favorites of the whole competition!

On the other side was his long time arch rival, Sonic the Hedgehog. Honestly, as far as he knew, Sonic was the one and only obstacle the striped hedgehog was actually worried he wouldn't be able to overcome. But, honestly? That hardly mattered, really. The two were where they were always meant to be again: facing off in a battle to determine who really was the ultimate. The Ultimate Lifeform knew that Sonic hadn't just been twiddling his thumbs while they were apart, but neither had Shadow. He knew that the both of them had become even stronger than the last time they fought, so Shadow was prepared for anything the blue blur threw at him... even if it was a bomb!

...At least, he hoped he was ready.

A test of speed gave Sonic a slight advantage already, but Shadow was no slouch when it came to speed either! He folded his arms over his chest, full of confidence and ready to take his rival down.

"You ready to lose, Blue Hedgehog?" Shadow smirked at Sonic, an eager glint in his red eyes indicating that he was ready to fight and win!

Sonic zoomed into the arena...meeting some mild cheers, some loud jeers and some murmurs among the spectators once he stopped. Whew, he sure got his work cut out for him in the name clearing. He chose to not pay much attention over the spectating audience...juust for now, at least. From what her heard, he'd need to listen to spectator input in order to draw in more appeal, so...just this once, no listening. On the other end of the coliseum, there was Shadow.  Well, someone's pretty eager to get going. Either that or he's impatient. Well, Sonic was always the type of being 'fashionably late' in spite of being one of, if not the fastest thing alive--

...Wait a sec, did that girl just assume he'd run away? Him? The blue hedgehog rolled his eyes before starting to exercise. Warm-up's important, you know!  "Iiiif you'll allow me to make one tiny correction there, announcer girl...I never, ever run from a fight!" Sonic boasted mid-exercise, sporting his trademark grin on his face. "Especially if it involves good ol' Shades here." Now, about the good ol' black hedgehog in the 0ther end of the arena...he's got a few choice words for him as well.

"Pfft, only if you're ready to lose too...because I'm not going down that easily, faker!" he said, pointing towards Shadow, is smirk never falling. From the looks of it, he was just teasing the other. As he finally finished his warm-up, he entered in a battle position.

"That does sound a bit more like the Sonic I heard about from Arle~! Were you two friends or something? Anyways, here are the poll results. Good luck, both of you~! Oh, and watch out for all the bombs. They're about to start raining from the sky. Riiight about... now."

The striped hedgehog was just about tired of waiting for the fight to start when he paused for a moment. Take his shoes off? They really wanted him to take his shoes off so badly? Why? Shadow glanced over at the audience with a confused, and almost disgusted look on his face. Did they expect him to fight Sonic bare foot? Or maybe they insisted that using jet shoes was cheating, which actually annoyed Shadow. You know who never once complained about Shadow's shoes? Sonic. Sonic himself never once said anything about his shoes, so people really needed to stop getting on his case about that. It was starting to get on his nerves, honestly.

The only thing that turned his attention toward that idea was if it were even possible to do it. Shadow inwardly shrugged. He'd never tried to take his shoes off before, so could he even do it? It hardly mattered. Even if it was possible, it was also indecent, and he honestly questioned why they wanted him to take his shoes off so badly.

Needless to say, no matter how many appeal points he'd get from it, Shadow would not take his shoes off. That request was ignored.

Now, throwing Sonic in the stands was another thing people really seemed to want him to do. That...

...He could oblige!

First thing's first though, he needed to dodge, and hopefully catch, some of these bob-oms! The hedgehog tried to slide away from a bomb that was heading straight for him, but the hedgehog had seen better luck... he ran right into another bomb that was heading for him as well. That wasn't too good...

9YA6mTicp_1d20+3 (Shadow attempted to dodge a bob-om. His DEX allows for a +3 in his roll. If he fails the dodge, he receives 32% damage. He must reach a 12+ DEX roll to dodge the bobom and a 16+ to be able to catch and throw one... Fail.)

Shadow was hit by a bomb, and boy did that hurt. The hedgehog shook his head, and by some miracle managed to survive the hit. There was no way he could survive another one, but he wasn't out yet. The hedgehog with an indomitable will would not back down, not one bit.

The hedgehog rolled into a ball and attempted to dodge another bob-om, and maybe catch one too. The determined glare in Shadow's eye meant that he was not playing around!

Shadow leaped into the air... and made the daring attempt...

Shadow threw the bob-om at Sonic, hoping to get some decent damage on the blue blur before rolling into a ball and attempting to push Sonic into the audience, even if the bomb didn't hit him. If you thought Shadow forgot about that, you'd be sadly mistaken. Shadow's not one to forget things that would win him a fight.

"Yep! We teamed up to stop Eggman once! It's actually a pretty funny story." Sonic said, ever-so-casually, as he grabbed a Bob-Omb and threw it back at Shadow. "You see, it rained those round jellies with eyes called 'Puyo' in our world once, and coincidentally, Arle and some of her friends got dumped in there with them." he continued, grabbing yet another Bob-Omb...and throwing it back at Shadow again. He snickered a bit. "So, Egghead was apparently working with Satan for his newest world domination scheme, but then, as par for the course in dark gods, Satan ended up betraying him aaaaaaaand we fixed everything up in the end, as we do! --Ah, wait a sec." He caught his rival's Bob-Omb as soon as he said that and threw it back at him. "You need to work on that throw, Dark Sonic!"

Well, that was one request he was more than happy to attend to! That sounded like a neat new embarrassing nickname for him to call the jet-black rival. Now, for one other that particularly caught his eye... "Who wrote this? Throw a chilidog at him?! That's a waste of state of the art food!" ...Still, if he had to get that appeal...he picked up a chili dog and looked at it with a look of regret over his face. He mumbled a quick apology before throwing it at Shadow's face!

"You better eat that up!" Sonic stated...and then had an idea pop into his head. Of course! He could use that as an distraction! Genius! He put his right foot further back and...began running in place? What was he doing, building up speed...?

Shadow was a little peeved that his blue rival would disrespect him enough to ignore him while throwing bombs back at him, but it wasn't like he didn't expect that to happen. Sonic was a cocky hedgehog at times, but the least Sonic could do was take this fight seriously. Whatever. That would be his downfall. Much Like Sonic did, Shadow caught and threw bombs back at Sonic, but the black hedgehog wasn't quite as successful on the third attempt. The hedgehog took a bomb in the face and grunted in pain as he was knocked back a few inches.

Shadow shook off the pain, frustrated that he was already hurt this badly without so much as given Sonic one scratch. How annoying! There was obviously something wrong with him. It almost felt like he was lagging behind. But Shadow? Lag behind? Hmph... not likely.

After having a chilidog thrown in his face (which was annoying, but it didn't hurt), It was then that he noticed the blue hedgehog running in place, and it took the black hedgehog a second to figure out what he was doing...

...But with just about everything else Sonic did, one second was too slow.

However, Shadow was quick enough to recover and dodge the first to swipes before being smacked by the third punch and skidded backward. The red eyed hedgehog leered at Sonic, and flared up. He admitted there was a good chance he would lose, but he wasn't going to lose without one hit on Sonic. That was not going to happen! The black hedgehog dashed toward the blue hedgehog intending to shove him into the crowd.

Then, whether the blue hedgehog actually fell into the crowd was left to be seen, but the moment either of them recovered, the black hedgehog was ready with a set of Spin Dashes. One was aimed for the legs, just as the audience wanted...

Once Shadow skidded to a halt, the black hedgehog steadied himself and panted. If none of those attacks made their marks, hopefully this would cause Sonic to stop messing around and start treating him like a serious opponent... But hopefully they made their marks. Shadow was getting too tired too soon.

“Yeah, Egghead can be a preeeetty sore loser, that's why he doesn't say much. It's funny how he never learned that he can't control evil dark deities, though. Like, sure, he managed to control a monster called Time Eater once, but that was one out of like, what, five weirdos? And I thought he was supposed to be this super genius that could destroy me with his super-advanced robots.” Sonic kept talking to Blue, seemingly seldom paying attention to the bombs going his way...except he apparently did, as he swiftly dodged one coming his way! However, he managed to get blindsided by another one of Shadow's bombs, and got blasted for failing to dodge in time. On the other hand, he did manage to grab one of the incoming bombs with no sweat, and quickly lobbed it at Shadow, before noticing the black-quilled hedgehog speed up towards him. So, he was getting up close and personal too, eh? Sonic smirked and gestured the black hedgehog to bring it on!

...OK, maybe he should've paid a bit more attention. Shadow ended up kicking him into the stands, though he was grabbed by a girl with a Puyo Cap. Oh hey, a familiar face! "'Sup Amitie, how's it going?" He quickly greeted the blonde. "Nothin' really special happening, I suppose!" she quickly answered, a bit confused. "Nice catch, and thanks! Now, if you'll excuse me." Sonic said before jumping back at the arena...and noticing Shadow Spin Dashing towards him...which was casually sidestepped. "Not bad, I'll rate it a 6/10. Not enough rev-up."

Sonic would get hit by two of those Spin Dashes, but he recomposed himself and quickly swerved away from the third one. As his barrage stopped, Sonic smirked. “All right, all right, I getcha.” He said. He had noticed how Shadow was irritated with his lax approach to the fight. “I’ll take this more seriously. But hey, try to have fun, at least!” He asked, sounding a biiiit annoyed as his smirk diminished slightly.

...Not that it mattered much, as the smirk returned to full force. “I think...I'll use your technique!” Sonic proclaimed, as he whipped up a green Chaos Emerald. Maybe he already knew Shadow would recognize what he was going to do right now, so why bother keeping secrets? "...Sike." Wait, what? As he proclaimed that, Sonic quickly curled into a ball and revved up, ready to deliver a Spin Dash at Shadow!

As he landed and uncurled, he entered a thinking pose. “Hmmm...you know what? Time out. I'm gonna fufill that one other request and visit Egghead for a moment.” Sonic suddenly spoke before blasting off of the arena. There might've been silence while he went off. Or...not. Who knows. In any case, the keen-eared could hear the distant wails of a egg man as Sonic darted back to the arena, eating a chilidog. “Sorry, am I late?”

[Sonic sacrificed a Combat Action to visit Eggman, ruining his lunch all the while.]

“...No? OK! Back to the fight!" Sonic proclaimed, finishing up the treat in his hands before running towards Shadow. Once he got close enough, he jumped softly, not gaining much in altitude. He then placed one of his hands on the ground, and twisted his body slightly, his legs making a curve on the ground before ascending quickly and shooting towards Shadow's face!

Shadow tried to keep himself on the ready, but the damage he had cultivated already was starting to get too much. It just seemed like everything was against him in this fight. The goal was a test of speed, which frankly, Sonic was the faster one of the two. As much as Shadow would never admit it, even he knew that. Whatever the case, Shadow couldn't put any excuse up. As much as he tried, his performance was terrible, and it wasn't about to get any better. If anything... it seemed to decline. Shadow managed the throw one bomb at Sonic, but not before being hit by the one that was thrown at him, and the third one slipped out of his fingers and landed on him as well. This was not good. Shadow clearly wouldn't be able to take any more hits. At this point he could barely stand, and the cheering from the crowd...

Oh, it was just too much! The ear piercing screams were starting to pierce the headache the battle had already caused him. The hedgehog glanced up to see Sonic holding a Chaos Emerald. The dazed and frustrated hedgehog took a few steps back. He wouldn't! ...Well, apparently Shadow was right! Instead, Sonic started to rev up a Spin Dash, and Shadow's face showcased how much trouble he was in. Pushing himself in an upright position, he tried with all his might to dodge the attack.

Shadow was just barely able to jump on Sonic's spinning form to the other side of him before landing as gracefully as he could. It was then that the hedgehog decided to bail on the competition for a few seconds even though he said he'd start taking it seriously and came back with another chili dog. Shadow placed both hands on his hips. Sonic ate so many of those things it disgusted him. "You do know those are made of pigs, right?" Shadow finally spoke, shaking his head at his rival's disgusting eating habits.

However, though it should have given time for Shadow to recoup, Sonic's next attack simply caught Shadow too off guard. The striped hedgehog attempted to skid to the side, but something ended up happening that Shadow didn't think was possible: he tripped. And before the black hedgehog could even look up, Shadow was rammed in the face by Sonic's foot. Shadow let out a pained grunt before he was sent rolling backwards, skidding on his feet. Shadow steadied himself, by some miracle, as he turned to glance at the audience. He seemed to be... looking for someone. His eyes seemed to lock with a yellow furred cat who was no undoubtedly there, just as she promised. He gave her a bit of a weak smile in an attempt to show that he was fine...
 

He tried his best, after all. That's all she'd ever wanted... was for him to try his very best.

As the image of the loving yellow cat seemed to fade away, the hedgehog keeled over and fell face first into the ground. He'd lost the fight, and lost in front of her... One of his dear friends that he made in Li. One thing that would give him comfort in this loss is that she would not be disappointed in him, and it wouldn't make her care about him any less. That was just the kind of mother she was, he supposed...

Before he could try to reply to Blue, BOOM! There's another bomb that managed to hit him. The blue blur coughed a bit as he struggled a fair bit to get back up. Whew, he was getting a little too careless...or was he really? He managed to get a hold of another bomb. As he found stable footing again, he smirked.

"Nah, I got it on my return trip, actually." Sonic replied to Blue, coughing a bit again, before turning to Shadow. "All right, Mr. I-Eat-Coffee-Beans-For-Breakfast, let's get back to--oh." he started to say, but was interrupted by the visage of his rival on the ground. Well...this was awkward. Was Shadow trying to trick him? ...Nah, he wasn't the type of resorting to cheap tricks to win. Well, in the end, this was...certainly quite short a fight. Sudden Death was pretty accurate a name for the special rules, too, because this was really...sudden, indeed.

Blowing the fuse off the Bob-Omb and settling it somewhere safe, Sonic zoomed towards Shadow, stopping next to him as he slowly kneel before hoisting Shadow back up, holding him with one arm by his waist, and the other holding his right arm. "Well, guess I won this one, Shades." he said to his rival, even though fully aware he wouldn't hear anything he said. Sonic then chuckled. "I'll drag him up to the hospital. Gimme a second or two." he reassured as he began making way to said hospital, still holding Shadow.

...It took him a bit to get back, but he did return.
