I'm not sure if I'll ever come back. It doesn't help that we switched from Chatango to Discord, which I can never seem to get working at home, so I can't exactly pop into the chat like before. (I might try getting it to work sometime.) The only reason I ever left though is because I'm tired of having to change my character. I want to be able to play my characters the way I want to play them and in the way that makes the most sense to me. It feels like the current rules just restrict how I rp too much, making it feel like I can't do anything I want to do, and when I feel like I can't do anything, I just get depressed.

For example, I don't want my defensive primaries/specials to be weak to heavy attacks, and if it works on heavy attacks, it doesn't make sense for it to be weak to light attacks. Basically if I'm playing a defensive/supporting character like Sylveon, I want to be able to have primaries/specials that fit its character type. The current rules tip the balance in the favor of purely offensive characters. I know, it isn't fun to have your attacks blocked entirely (just ask a mod about Insta-shield) but that's what things like cooldowns are for: to keep them from spamming, and lowering damage isn't the same entirely as blocking attacks.

Not to mention nothing stops someone from having an attack just for bypassing those things anyway. Besides, we can always make crits bypass those, or even limit things like Protect to only being able to block a single attack. After all, crits are hard to roll. I don't like pvp because I would probably feel salty if I lost or just wouldn't be able to come up with anything to actually type, which is my current problem with rp in general. After all, rp is nothing like playing a video game, where skill come into play more often. Even a dice based RP is only like turn based RPGs. Even then it isn't like all of the turn based RPGs. All it takes for someone to feel salty is one bad roll, whether it is a dodge roll or an attack roll.

tl;dr I would need to be able to actually write and rp my characters without feeling like I have to change so much about them that they don't feel like the same character I want to rp anymore to come back.

Sorry Nova, but it sounds like you want the system to let you godmod. I apologize for being blunt, but your character is not a titan who can get spinkicked in the face and not suffer at least a bit of damage. I'm not willing to let you get away with that at the expense of everyone around you. =/ That's how badly written shonens portray tough guys. You are definitely capable of doing better than that, so I'd encourage you to think outside of the box.

Insta-Shield's problem wasn't that it had no cooldown. Insta-Shield's problem was that, like every invulnerability move, it accomplished absolutely nothing. Its only purpose was to make people angry and delay progress. Even I, as someone who had an invulnerability move of my own that was infinitely less OP than anyone else's, had to recognize that the idea of simply ignoring attacks risk-free is a terrible game mechanic. People didn't want to play with me when I used it, no matter how balanced it was in theory. I didn't want to play with people who did that to me. Anyone who didn't have one was at a severe disadvantage. A cooldown does not fix that.

In their current state, defensive characters are arguably the strongest type of character. The system favors progress, not offense. It just so happens that doing damage is how progress is generally made when attacks are involved. If you want to block attacks, I suggest using your bubble shield. That's what it's there for, after all. A spare health pool that recharges itself and lets you block attacks. I give my characters unique bubble shields all the time. Peach uses Perry to block attacks. Arle summons walls of light not unlike the move protect. The mechanics for RP are there.

But if you're just not feeling it and you really need the mechanics to be unfair and unfun, I don't know what to tell you man. Maybe you could just make your own missions and not use the system in them. That has always been an option, after all. Can't garauntee people will want to join if you're gonna just ignore attacks like the old days though. Regardless, it was nice having you while it lasted.

Ah. But that isn't it at all. If I wanted to godmod, I'd go someplace without rules. Heck if I wanted to godmod, I'd rp a character that's too fast to hit, and if I wanted a nearly invincible character, I would just stick to NPCing my own missions. Speaking of which, almost none of the missions that I created were ever completed. Didn't matter if it was something relatively simple or easy or something stupidly hard because I wasn't sure what I was doing. I know that you know how terrible I am when it comes to missions. I actually feel that some things may need to be more fun. RPing is only fun if your character is fun to write in the setting they're in.

Heck, with a character like Sylveon, I don't even care about moves like Protect, I'd just like to have at least Reflect/Light Screen in a way that makes sense to me. Heck, we have the bubble shields in the actual games, but I'm not always capable of thinking to use them or using them in time much unlike how rp actually is. Besides, offensive characters are more likely to have a wide variety of offensive options including at least one shield break (like Tingle), a heavy attack, and a combo instead of multiple attacks that basically do the exact same thing just like my early days of Star Force RP.

Part of the reason why I only ever used it once in rp. Besides, mechanics are only one part of an rp forum, the other part is actually writing. I can barely squeeze out a few paragraphs a day for part of my stories, and as soon as I get my new laptop (hopefully next month) I might be too busy recording LPs for YouTube to write as much as I wish were still able to. (Some of my old writing can be considered trash, but I used to crank out a chapter of fanfiction a day when I was in high school.)

All of those things are godmodding yeah. But like ... so is blocking an attack and taking no damage. If you wear bulletproof armor and someone shoots you, you're still going to feel that. It's probably going to hurt, too. Leave bruises. Potentially even kill you without ever going through you! All you've done is mitigated the damage you've taken to minimize its effectiveness. The same goes for parrying a sword. Yeah you didn't get diced up, but the impact of that sword against your sword is going to hurt a bit. You're going to feel that force running up your arm. You might be sore tomorrow. You'll get exhausted doing it repeatedly. Eventually, you won't be able to anymore. You took residual damage from parrying those strikes. Y'know what knights used to do sometimes if they encountered someone in heavy plate armor? They turned their sword on its side and smacked the enemy knight with the flat end. And y'know? That could end a dude in just a couple of swings. It HURT. Not as effective as slicing and stabbing, but still far from useless!

Defensive moves on Li function in a similar way. You should take a look at Peach's Heels of Tenacity for an example of a creative defensive move that operates in a different way from most and successfully balances itself to avoid a weakness to light attacks. In fact, it's even stronger against them than it is against heavy attacks. It gets away with that by being unreliable. There's a decent chance it will just fail to mitigate any given attack based on a constitution roll.

In fact, it's based on the way you used to do constitution checks back in the old days before standardized damage and stuff. Only y'know, I've taken it and balanced it so that it's fairer and less frustrating to play against. It can't just mitigate attacks entirely even with a good roll, and generally fails more against better rolls because it has to roll against the attacking roll.

That being said, there's no magic cure for a dead muse. That's a different issue entirely. It's always a shame to hear. All I can do is stress what I said in my PM.

If you want to keep your account, even if you aren't ready to come back right now, you need to stop beating around the bush and say so! Like, NOW. Because you're out of time.
