As many of you who've played Kirby Superstar and Kirby Superstar Ultra no doubt know, in these games, there is an ability that Kirby can get that can copy abilities from other enemies. This is known as the Copy copy ability. It's only real uses do not go beyond copying abilities in Milky Way WIshes where Kirby can't normally do that himself, getting Crash from a Scarfy, and spawning the TAC helper, who is slightly better than Kirby as he has more than copying going on. Kirby didn't even have his Copy Ability until his second game where nobody was given any explanation of how he got it to begin with.
Naturally, a copycat like myself would love the idea of getting to use a character that can copy his enemies. What happens when Kirby tries inhaling a Kirby with no ability? Nothing. If Emerl and Metal Sonic copied each other, the only difference is that Emerl has been seen to copy up to 3 characters at a time, otherwise they wouldn't get anything out of copying the others copy skill other than the skill they already possess. Same thing with Megaman and X. Now X and classic Megaman have an arguably better skill than Metal Sonic.
Who says they can only get one attack from a character? They could probably copy more but can only use one special weapon from the same boss. Even if they could only get one attack, then it would be the signature skill. What's Ashe's, Grey's, Axl's, and Master Albert's signature skills? The A Trans. It literally does not make any sense to give a copy skill a move other than A Trans from those four with the possible exception of Master Albert. Did you know that isn't allowed as of last night?
Here's how I see it: even if a character could copy A Trans, they would not be able to A Trans into more than one character even if they deliberately A Trans into a character with an A Trans for that purpose. Even if they could, there would be severe consequences to constantly A Transing into someone with A Trans for the sake of A Transing again such as losing their original DNA if they weren't originally made to use A Trans.
Heck, Axl's copy ability is split into two abilities. he can just shoot you for your DNA and run. Until last night's conversation, Ashe could've gotten Grey and Axl's DNA and done so, though Val/Mari probably wouldn't do that. Even I wouldn't. Why waste the time anyway? Plus, a character would have to collect DNA to use it and they, under the logic that Pokemon cannot transform into transformed Pokemon, they can't copying anything that a character uses from a copy skill. Not even Emerl could do that.
Would they be using more than one of that characters skills if they A Trans? Yes, but it's only cheating as much as having it to begin with seeing as how they probably wouldn't be limited to just A Transing into that person. Heck, according to Ashe's A Trans log, she can A Trans into NPCs rather than just approved characters. Exceptions or no, that still doesn't sound right. The only reason I would allow copy skills at all on a Smash RP is this: Kirby is in Smash, and can copy other characters. Why? Only Sakurai knows. The only thing he should get rather than a Kirby hat is a copy ability such as Fire for Mario, Sword for Link, ect.
Do I think copy skills should be allowed at all? Not under any circumstances. No exceptions even for any Pokemon that can learn the moves Copycat, Mirror Move, Mimic, Sketch, Transform, and/or Assist, Kirby, or Mega Man. How would I do copy abilities? I would simply do this: The character has attacks added to their moveset whenever they can learn a new move. It was how I was originally going to app X. A Trans? I would only use it on Reploids for Axl, and Pseudoroids and other Mega Men for Grey and Ashe, and then have them be able to transform freely, but limited to forms that meet those circumstances by having them added to their apps.
After all, Ashe and Grey can freely A trans between forms they collected mid mission ingame, and clearly don't seem capable of copying anything else, otherwise, I'm sure at least one of them or Model A would of lampshaded their inability to do so by asking why they don't copy the minor enemies as they don't strike me as stupid.Clearly they could've if Model A was made from Axl, but didn't since literally no game in the Zero or ZX collections acknowledge the existence of games not in X Collection. Kirby? Either he gets Copy Essences like in Milky Way Wishes, or he gets to learn moves from his other abilities. X, Zero, and Mega Man? THey get the same deal Rock got in Sm4sh, which Zero more or less has already.
My point? Copy attacks should be done in a way that make sense or not at all. They never needed to happen, nor were they usually meant to be balanced in their source material. Heck, any character could have a copy ability given Kirby didn't have one until his second game and an explanation was never given as to how he got it. Metal Sonic didn't either to my knowledge until Sonic Heroes, which I assume was due to some Gizoid tech. Before that, he was pretty much just a RoboSonic.
In short: Copy skills are fun, make IC sense to have, but shouldn't be allowed at all as an attack as it is a fun, but bad idea to begin with. Kirby should not have even been able to copy a character's moves in Smash, therefore, I blame, not the person who allowed A Trans to begin with, but rather Sakurai for allowing it in game because not even Megaman, who has always copied enemies, got to copy anyone.
