The path to the Essence Extraction Point was never an easy one. Few had the heart or bravery to make such a treacherous journey, but the forces from the Life Sphere had a deep burning of passion in their chest, an unstoppable burning will that will never cease, not even in the face of adversity. No, if the Life Sphere was known for anything, it was survival even when the odds were stack against them. The Starvia was a powerful disease, but it was no match against the will of the Life Sphere, it was too great. Immeasurable even. If there was a method to measure will, the limit could not be found. And perhaps that is what made the Life Sphere the Life Sphere.
An army of the bravest soldiers that the Life Sphere had ever seen marched through the desert outskirts of Li, united only as true Smash Brothers could. They stood side by side, the collapsing of their feet echoing throughout the barren wasteland, a warning of the power they wielded and the fearlessness that came with not caring of who heard it.
As the group encroached on their target destination, the dark clouds in the sky swirled with dark energy and the crackling of lightning. The tempest swirled, the wind battering the citizens as they continued toward the cliffside, Black Shadow standing at the edge with his arms crossed and a wicked grimace on his face.
“Ah, so you chose wisely and heeded my call. Mhm hm, seems we were all fools thinking that we’d ever be safe on this wretched planet, though perhaps it was I that was the biggest fool of all for entrusting my life to a giant literal brain.”
Black Shadow dramatically whipped himself and his cape around as he gazed over the gorge below. “And yet, this may be the battle to end all battles, our time to claim a revenge against that accursed computer. Make no mistake, the final blow will be mine” he blustered as raised his clenched fist forward, the distinct sound of his spandex gritting.
From the army of Life Sphere citizens, Professor E. Gadd stumbled forth, brushing off his lab coat and wandering over to Black Shadow’s side. “That’s some good poetry you’ve been rehearsing, young lad. Ho ho ho, you’re lucky the Life Sphere’s government is as trusting as it is, I personally voted in favour of nuking you from orbit. Now what’s all this hubbub about Mother Brain’s master weapon?”
Black Shadow held back a laugh, but ultimately locked his gaze further beyond the gorge, pointing to a shimmering object in the distance. “Mother Brain might only see this as a distraction for her true plans, but make no mistake, this plan is just as deadly as any. She layers plans within plans, protocols within protocols. Only her mind is able to make sense of any of it, but it always results in absolution.”
E. Gadd adjusted his glasses, trying to best to get a good peep at the distant machinery with his naked eye, but it was no use. “Ho ho, except when her plans and armies are defeated by a lone bounty hunter. Someone pass me my binoculars” he asked as his head turned back to the crowd. One of the citizens quickly obliged, tossing the device over.
At the mere mention of Samus, Black Shadow’s face contorted to a grimace, no doubt spurn from his previous failed transgressions. “Make no mistake, old coot, this Mother Brain is beyond anything she was before. Each victim inflicted with the Starvia grows her mind stronger. What she was before is only a fraction of what she is now. She’s more powerful than you could ever dream. It is not real power though, it’s a coward’s power, hidden behind millions of mindless drones.”
As E. Gadd gazed out upon the far-off landscape, his jaw dropped. “It’s… it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen! And there’s an army of infected right there with it! They’re moving!”
A wash of worry doused over Black Shadow’s complexion. He pushed the tiny man back and yanked his binoculars out of his hands. “What? Let me see!” he quickly and rudely interrupted, pasting the binoculars to his eyes. “They’re… they’re sending us a message! Spelling something with their bodies!”
“What does it say?”
Black Shadow fell silent for a moment, staring out at the message for a good long while. “It says ‘pranked’ and there’s a drawing of a butt.” He lowered his binoculars and gazed at E. Gadd grimly. “We were fools.”
E. Gadd nodded. “Mm, April Fools”
In unison, they both looked at the reader.
