PROLOGUE

The winds in the back lanes of the Brightwing District were coated with the scent of sulfur and gunpowder, as the hooligans and bandits grew in greater droves near the back of the larger housing projects. These groups were no more than joined bandits and raiders, called under two beasts. Baz, having given up his life to be a knight, and tired of his consistent defeats at the hands of Shovel Knight, Plague Knight, and even King Knight at times. With his new friend, the Baz was gonna get this place fit for raiding!
"Glad you could make it, eh, Baz?"
"Yeah... Vvulf."

PRESENT

A hoodlum resort for sure. This place reeked of degeneracy to the gaudy, gilded gentleman that was King Knight. Striding forward with his famous kingly strut and stopping outside of the abandoned Townhouse, the man of gold metal plates would wait patiently for his comrades to arrive, stalwart and upright, standing with a serious set to attention. The cape of his flew in the breeze with his posture, and his eyes leered across the landscape. The broken windows and boarded break-ins were disheartening of this place, and the group at the front gates were no pushovers. Two large warriors, one being a Mole Guard stood at the ready, though King Knight waited, standing aside as he knew that black armored fiend wouldn't draw near, nor did the other, whip bearing being as they stood like bouncers to a Club.

It was time to crash their party, and time to destroy what fun they could have.

In walked a knight, now back to his old cloak before Echantress took his free will like the rest of the knights. He made his way there swiftly, not leaving any time to waste. He wished to procure their base of operations as soon as possible. "King Knight. I seem to be the first to arrive," Specter Knight stated before looking over to the guards.... It was worn down a place, a bit too much for his tastes... He was an adventurer, not always a reaper of the knights. "We best avoid breaking too many things. The guards look formidable but nothing we can't handle," Specter Knight stated simply before a mysterious ticking noise came in.

"Pardon if I'm late. I was making sure my gear was in prime condition," Tinker Knight said, holding a strange clockwork... cannon? "... What is that you hold, Tinkerer?" Specter Knight inquired, not being familiar with the device. "Ah, it's a Clockwork Explosive Launcher. I figured I better pack something more than a wrench, eh?" Tinker Knight notioned. ".... I'd appreciate you leave the combat to us so you don't blow apart our domain before we even claim it."

~Sharpen thy Shovel~

Shovel Knight made his way toward the rendezvous point established by his newfound unlikely ally, King Knight. Life worked in strange ways. One day, they were enemies, and now, they stood united against a huge threat, forming an alliance with other former foes, even! Now, the Order of Fair Knights (such is the name of their alliance) only needed a base of operations, and King Knight seemingly found one...overrun with bandits.

...Well, it was better than nothing.

He ended up being the last one of the Order to arrive, as the other three were already there. "My apologies. Have I kept you waiting for too long?" he asked closing the distance between him and his allies. He then stole a look at the place itself. "This house...I hope we'll have enough funds to repair it in at the end of this skirmish." he commented. Truth be told, he somewhat expected the house to be in disarray if only for a couple more days. It wasn't anything that the cerulean knight couldn't handle, he slept in a log next to a fireplace more times than he could count. "Now then, shall we? I am ready to deliver shovel justice!"

As the group amassed, the two guards stood tall, blocking the gates. The Mole Minion stood to the back, as that unfamiliar, massive beast of a man blocked the group from getting ahead, grunting and grinning, eyes darkened and hidden under his little hood, despite his big, bulbous body exposed from the navel up. Regardless, the group was in for an all out brawl! The massive, hulking giants made their first moves, seemingly tied to one another as a tag team, sharing their actions! The Mole Minion aimed his staff right at Tinker Knight, and fired off a swirling mass of fire!

Loudly, King Knight bellowed at the top of his lungs... "NEW ROYAL DECREE! DANCING FOR SHOVEL KNIGHT'S INVIGORATION SHALL BE A NEW PASSTIME KNOWN AS 'SHOVEL TUMBLING'! IT IS ONLY LEGAL FOR THE KING! SINCE I LIKE SHOVEL KNIGHT, FOUR ROTATION DURATION!" with that, he would spiral, and dance dandily, springing about and even spinning, hopefully, with Shovel Knight for a bit, as to invigorate the spirit of the Shovel Blade's wielder.

That one staggers like an idiot! Strike him down, fellows! We will handle the Mole Minion in time!"

Tinker Knight slid away from the flamethrower as he would of felt that heat should his armor not be made tailored for hot work conditions... No wait, definitely a bit sweaty... Specter Knight dashed to the side quickly before tossing his scythe to the Brigand and whether it hit or pass him, Specter Knight would disappear before reappearing to grab the scythe and quickly slash at the foe in quick succession.

Shovel Knight brandished his Shovel Blade, ready to fight...before his attention was sidetracked by King Knight's loud declaration. ...Really? A royal decree at this time? And it...was a dance routine? For him? Sure, it was flattering, but couldn't it wait until later? Well, it didn't seem like it, for King Knight started dancing!

And...whoa, he was amazing at it!

If he wasn't busy being a royal-in-name-only, he could've easily found a career in being the Dancer Knight! That mobility, that grace in his moves...it was simply awe-inspiring! After he finished the dance routine, Shovel Knight made question to applaud. "Bravo! Bravo! Simply fantastic!" he cheered, now invigorated. "Now...allow me to strike!" Shovel Knight then dashed towards towards the brigand, swinging his Shovel Blade at him!

The overwhelming flurry of blows combined with the bandit's concussion made sure that the green-cowled guard received every single blow that was thrown at him. He was hanging on by a mere thread, before a massive, classical bomb in the vein of the Knights' own world fell upon him from the top of the tower. Admittedly much larger, and deadlier, the blast turned the Brigand into a trophy, causing him to cease his existence at the very start of his time to actually fight. There were surely going to be more akin to him but for now, it was time to focus in on the other Brute. The Mole Minion!

Angry, the Mole Minion raised his staff into the air, and slammed it into the ground, letting fire rain from above..! He was launching fireballs at everyone!

Now, after those rounds of attacks, with the team finally moving out of the way in the brutal chaos of the battle, it was their turn! Of course, before so, King Knight would sway right on in, and spin so dandily across the battlefield in an elegant display. Even a few of his punishment Propeller Rats moved to give his cape a fancy swish, as to further show Shovel Knight he was here, and dancing like a fool for his entertainment.

Tinker Knight seeing the attack from the Mole Knight coming, jumped over the heat with... surprising height for one of his build. Specter Knight folded himself in his cape and teleported out of the way as well. "On it! Now, there will be no escape for you, Mole Minion, you were foolish. Chronos Coin!" Specter Knight called as he tossed a coin in the air, time starting to bend itself around the Mole Minion almost to the point of stopping if he did not resist hard enough as sparkles filled the air. "Specter Storm!" he called once more as he fired a bolt of lightning, causing a flash to envelop the place as he tried to zap the Mole Minion, twirling his scythe in his hand before attempting to dash straight through the Mole Traitor. A flash of lightning came down from the sky to light up the epic display of skill and power.... Show off.

Shovel Knight managed to dodge the fireball storm, but the Mole Minion managed to capitalize the opening he had unfortunately left himself in and got whacked twice by the fiery stick a result. The cerulean armored knight was blown back a bit, but found stable landing with the help of his Shovel Blade. As he got up, King Knight continued to reinvigorate him, bellowing out some positivity while he danced around.

Getting up, Shovel Knight brandished his weapon again, and made his way towards the Mole Minion. "Steel thyself, fiend!" Shovel Knight forewarned as he...suddenly stored his shovel and brought up the Dust Knuckles instead! "For now I storm you with my knuckles!" And he wasn't exaggerating. He literally descended a storm of punches towards the Mole Minion!

With Shovel Knight's final two blows after that wild combo, and the thankfulness of Specter Knight's Chronos Coin stopping the Mole Minion in his tracks, the team's flurry of blows, and even with that auto salvager smack nearly hitting King Knight, the group managed to destroy that last guard before the two-story home. As the trophy fell with a final thud, the noises in the air were now from the home, the rattling of people inside clearly showing it was inhabited. The door loomed before them, ominously sealed shut. No matter, King Knight decided what better way to show his grandiose power than to bash it down? No, that'd be damaging to the property. Of course, just trying to open it normally, King Knight couldn't seem to get it to budge!

"Sir Specter Knight, you've a way with opening lock mechanisms, yes? The door is locked and I cannot open it. I'd hate to damage our front door. Shall you pick this lock?"

An interesting choice, considering Tinker Knight was available, but King Knight knew to some extent of who Specter Knight was before all of this, not much, but enough to know that the rogue's lifestyle before now would afford him some knowledge of how to crack the damnable barricade between them and the home's interior.

"If you cannot, I humbly suggest Shovel Knight tear the door down with that mighty blade of his. Ohoho..! Commanding like this is so exciting..!~"

Specter Knight twirled around his scythe before making it disappear as the fight has ended. Looking to the defeated Brighid and Mole Minion, Specter Knight decided to reap the rewards in case he needed a power boost later by holding up a hand and pulling the souls of the defeated enemies to his hand. They are probably better off with him anyhow with how swiftly they were taken care of.

*Specter Knight has claimed the souls of all fallen enemies in the area!

"Specter Knight? A bit of an odd choice, King Knight. I think it'll be better if I take a crack at this locking mecha-" Tinker Knight began to volunteer as Specter Knight stared at King Knight for a long moment. He knew what he was doing. Donovan was fairly renowned and known thief and adventurer. The King was trying to call him back to his former life. "....... No. King Knight asked me. I shall pick the lock," Specter Knight stated firmly, cutting off his fellow knight before walking to the door, taking a moment to look back to Shovel Knight. "I might be a bit rusty, so I trust if I break the lock on accident, you'll have it covered," Specter Knight directed as Tinker Knight crossed his arms and waited as the spooky knight summoned a lockpick... Huh, he still had that on him despite his ability to teleport.

The lock was... incredibly simple as it he managed to solve it almost instantly despite being out of practice. There was a click before he pushed open the door. "You may need to upgrade the locks later, Tinkerer," the Knight said proudly and... wow, that was a joke. Been a while as he would be smiling... if he still had a proper face "Huh... Impressive. Well, let's get going then! FOR THE ORDER OF FAIR KNIGHTS!" Tinker Knight declared as he raised his wrench. "For the order!" Specter Knight declared, a bit quieter, raising his scythe. Shovel knight took some hits but so far it was going smoothly.

Shovel Knight watched as the Mole Minion fell after the barrage of the attacks, and as they got trophified and Specter did the sould reaping, Shovel Knight sheathed his weapon, putting it in his back. "Our rate of progress has been astounding so far!" he commented. "Now, let us enter and start claiming this house as ours!"

...Well, that would be the case, if it wasn't locked. Well, those brigands were smarter than he initially thought. Watching King Knight trying to open it to no avail, the 'golden'-plated warrior enlisted Specter Knight to lockpick the door, and if that failed, Shovel Knight was to bust it down. Inwardly, the cerulean knight hoped Specter could lockpick it (even though that sounded more like a job for Tinker Knight) because busting door open = new door needed, and new door needed = more repair costs.

...And his worries were completely thrown out of the window once Specter Knight successfully picked it apart. "Quite well done, Specter Knight!" he praised the ghostly knight before brandishing his shovel blade once more. "FOR THE ORDER OF FAIR KNIGHTS!" he bellowed, raising his trusty weapon in the air, joining the other two in the knightly call.

As the door was opened, the royal fanfare of King Knight's trumpets from either side blew into a glorious symphony, calling out to those inside that they were here! "OH HONEY! YOUR KING IS HOOOME!~" he called out with bravado and incredible confidence. The shout brought the ire of the bandits within, snaking out with blades and weapons drawn! It was a four on four! There were two Goldarmors, and two bandits clad in those same garbs as before, but wearing pelts. These men looked much more fierce... Not that it intimidated King Knight. The Goldarmors, they'd serve him..!

"Your king is here, you two! Return to my side! Fight for-" "SHUDDUP!" That sent a chill down his spine, scaring the King back a bit, before he felt the comfort of allies at his back. "...Then I shall strike you both down! Ha-HA!" He called out, preparing to act.

The first brigand lunged right at Specter Knight! His sweeping arm out and raised blade upward was to gouge the undead right in his throat!

As to not let up on his cohort's attacks, the next Brigand rushed right at Tinker Knight, taking a different approach to his stabbing attacks, attempting to shank the little guy right in his stomach!

Now King Knight was ready to go on the offensive with his team, back to the door as he charged right in, stopping short and raising his scepter high. He was going to strike the raider who'd attacked Tinker Knight over his head! "Mind your manners..!"

He fell. Right flat on his face, King Knight stumbled and tripped, slamming face first into the carpet as it fell from under him. The brigand laughed right at the King... Right at him. His spit even flew from his mask as he let off that muffled chuckle. It felt terrible, it felt humiliating. Poor King Knight rose up onto his backside, slamming his fist into the ground. "I will PUNISH you!"

Buttocks, realizing his mind was warped to the point of being incapable of changing his name back to what he was known, clutched his head and called out in a scream of agony, feeling his mind reeling and spiraling without any sort of redemption from his curse. King Knight rose off of the ground, putting his hands out, and adjusting his crown after. "Haaahaaahaaaah! Laugh at his ridiculous name!" King Knight ordered. He threw his shoulder forward, charging right at Buttocks once more, ready to knock the jerk down.
