Black Mage's outline appeared in front of the Police HQ before filling in as the Warp Spell finished transporting him to his destination. Been a while since he has been here outside accepting rewards for his takedowns of major villains. He looked up at the building. At least they had plenty of time to repair since the last attack... even if Black Mage's Meteor Spell did not help matters. Though rather than defending it, he was here for business and... trying to help fix a major issue in the Life Sphere's community. Been a while since he has last seen Amaterasu come to think of it... Black Mage shook his head and focused on the task at hand as he entered the HQ and went to the front desk. "Oh, you are that Black Mage fellow that helped with that Prison Break a while back? Also took care of a few hostage situations. It has been a while," a voice spoke up as a Toad the mage definitely did not recogonize spoke to him...

It was an odd Toad. Brown and purple spotted cap, black shorts, an eyepatch, and a leather jacket... He was a very edgy Toad but did not seem to act like it. He also had a... rather strange magical aura he could not quite comprehend. "I am Vanish T. The chief is expecting you. I will take you to his office," the detective toad replied simply before walking away and expecting the mage to follow behind. Well, he was going to try and find Blewitt but he guessed this worked as he followed the detective to where Captain Falcon's office was. The Toad knocked on the door and spoke up. "Chief Falcon. The Mage is here to see you," the detective said before turning around and walking past Black Mage... He was off in a hurry. Seemed busier than the other Toads at least. "... I guess some of them are competent... Falcon, I'm here," Black Mage restated as he moved for the door before stopping for a moment... does he really want to be standing in front of the door after seeing what happened during the breakout?

Scrunched into his miniature office, Captain Falcon was lurching over his desk and tapping away his personalized typewriter (yes, it had flame decals and a falcon crest plastered on it as well). His office looked like it was two sizes too small, but given the ecstatic grin smacked across his face he didn’t seem to mind. He paused for a moment and investigated the trio of shelves that boxed him into the space. He searched with his eyes and a stray finger through the globs of paper within the units until he yanked a sheet from its place and held it close to his face, a series of papers fluttering in the background as he did so.

Captain Falcon scratched his helmet perplexingly and looked back to the report he was filling out. “I always thought that mushroom part of their head was just a hat” he pondered aloud as he went into a state of deep thought.

That was quickly broken when there was a knock at his door. Like a dog sensing that its master was home, Captain Falcon’s head shot up and his eyes darted towards the door. He excitedly flipped his desk over and zoomed over to the door. Before he opened it though, he shifted back to his nearly broken desk and pressed a button on the intercom. “Secretary! I need desk repair to my office! Pronto!”

“I have a name, sir” the little speaker replied in monotone.

“Thank you!” he enthusiastically answered and rushed back to the door. While the door looked like it ordinarily had its hinges on its side, for good reason, those were located on the bottom of it instead, the reason becoming much more apparent as the police chief slammed through it. Captain Falcon stood atop the door turned floor, gripping his fist in front of his face. “Hyrah! Bro, you should get one of these doors! Its lasted me two weeks so far, that’s pretty good!”

Once he realized who it was visiting his office, Captain Falcon raced to his old ally’s side. He immediately went to shake Black Mage hand, with both his hands at once if he could manage, following up with a series of fist bumps like he just invented a secret handshake for them on the spot. “So you’re the new recruit! I gotta say, a sweet resume you’ve got, bro. Defended the police station from a kremling invasion and provoked massive property damage with a giant meteor, I do approve!” he introduced and then broke off once more. “Being a Life Sphere police officer isn’t an easy job though! The mushroom men can only handle so much, that’s why they need heavy hitters like us around. It’s demanding job that only the badest of the bad can handle and is that person you?” he drilled like his gym buddy Lt Surge would, ending it by pointing at the magician.

The wary mage jumped back in a rather floaty manner as he seemed to even rely on Magic for simple things such as jumping. Made sense for someone that was so physically feeble and way more skilled in the mind. That desk flip definitely reassured him that standing in front of the door was a bad idea... especially when he recogonized the hinges were not where one would normally place them on a door. That theory became evident as the door was punched down in a rather unusual way of opening... Well, that precaution they put in he could not exactly blame them for. From the sounds of his words they put that door that way for that exact reason too so they could stop replacing them...

"I also blasted some guy with nipple cannons and... a more odd place for them to protect hostages. Though that Kremling gig was rather sweet," Black Mage replied as he seemed to catch onto Falcon's handshake pretty quick despite it being improv by matching his motions. Guess that is just the skill of someone as powerfully perceptive and intelligent as the mage. "I have a lot of experience handling those that wish to harm the peace. I did not get to be a chosen hero of light just for being naturally skilled at my craft. I may be a bit more destructive than my fellow heroes but I am easily the hardest hitting. I would say I may even be bad enough a mage to save the King's Daughter," Black Mage replied with a bit of a joke near the end... Though technically Kings are really a thing here as much as they used to be in his world and probably the others. He doubted the leaders actually had childern though.

"I did want to talk to you about the Toad thing too. While you are right, they do need powerful guys like us, don't you think they could do more? From what I have heard, Toads have helped Mario directly in a few adventures and even play sports, parties and karting... Which, also from what I hear from Mario are a bit more extreme than most worlds," the spell caster proposed on top of his earlier statement.

Like a true police chief on the job, Captain Falcon drew a steely gaze upon his face, sternly listening to his potential recruit. He could only keep the no-nonsense visage for so long though, his gaze shifting at the mention of nipple cannons. Peering at his own chest, he pondered as to why he didn’t think of that idea before. They would become so much more useful! Focus! The new blood was detailing his job history, those were important points to keep in mind.

As Black Mage noted that he was indeed fit for combat, Captain Falcon grew a smirk and shot the man with a double thumbs-up. He was scrawny, certainly, but he was a magic user… At least as far as his name and outfit would signify. Captain Falcon strung his loosely over Black Mage’s shoulder line, beginning to walk forward to bring their conversation on the go. He was also flexing his rippling muscles for good measure. “Ha ha! Glad to hear it! We’ll set you up with some barbells and get you to do some mad crunches! That’ll patch up those twiggy defenses, not to mention solidify your core, bro!” he added as he poked at the mage’s flimsy arm.

As Black Mage mentioned a solution for the Toad-dominated police force, the police chief’s countenance went fully into flashback mode, almost as though he was reliving several different conversations at once.

“You switched out all the coffee beans for Hyper Candies and didn’t tell anyone!?”

“Everyone around here seems so slow. I mean, how many cases were done by hired help over the actual police force? This way we get straight to the action and show everybody our moves!”

“You could have just offered them to the other officers instead of doing it in secret!”

“I didn’t want to make them feel bad about how slow they were going…”

Captain Falcon’s attempts to fix the lackluster mushroom men officers were not simply limited to that one case. There had been many occasions and plots of his to make them more efficient workers, but over time they had failed for one reason or another. He might have converted a handful into model employees, but those were few and far in between. He supposed there were more disciplinary routes that he could take to weed out the bad ones, though whether that was a good move to make had yet to be determined.

“Of course, we’re all capable of doing more!” he stated with all the enthusiasm of a host from a self-help talk show. “Some Toads can duke it out with Mario, but not all! The Life Sphere’s home to many different universes, so that comes with varying degrees of power levels. The criminals from my universe could suplex these little guys with one hand! And Samus’s universe…” he shuttered momentarily. “You don’t even want to know, bro.” He shook his head. “Most try to keep up, but sometimes that doesn’t mean much.”

".... I'm a mage, we prefer brains over brawns, Captain. I can handle anything with my magic if I put my mind to it. Not just fighting either. I can put out intense flames with Water, make a path with Stone for others, freeze water for a safe path, power up old machines with Thunder, among other utilities. I would like to see you do that with some physical exercise. Though I am planning to master a form of Magic and Physical mix combat so maybe I can train with you once I acquire that power," Black Mage answered the merc with a shrug and then thought about what else the Captain said.

... He did have a point. Everybody had limitations, though he thinks they may even have trouble with a Goblin at times. "... You have a point, Captain. The Toads are inherently not the strongest, I can think of numerous weaker monsters I fought that they may not be able to handle let alone the God of Chaos or the Lich. There is more to these things than raw power though, Falcon. Maybe they are best left to recon where their small stature and natural speed can help... Still, I want to see how much the Chief can do by himself. I want to pit my magic against your strength.  Show me just how much you can pick up their slack," Black Mage stated after a bit of thought. He wanted to see if the Captain can back up his words. He has seen a bit of the Captain's moves, but he was not that impressed. Besides, he could use the EXP if he was really going to go through with protecting the land.

As their conversation continued through the halls of the Police HQ, Captain Falcon paused upon what looked to be a logo for the station, spread widely across the floor tiles of the area. He put a finger to his chin as he heard out Black Mage’s deductions, though he didn’t exactly look like he was in agreeance with what he was saying. “I’m not coming down on you, bro! I was there when that meteor came crashing through that cellblock and your hocus pocus has its utilities! My fists can do some mad damage, bro, but they’re no meteor!” he reassured as his blood was pumping with the mere thought of the finale of that kremling invasion. “As an officer though, you have to be prepared for every eventuality! What if someone places a jinx on you or they have some sort of anti-magic field generator? You’re left as a scrawny… human? I’m not sure what you are, sorry” he noted while scratching the back of his helmet. “That’s why I keep a gun on me and never use it! If I’m incapacitated somehow, it’s there, otherwise it’s useless to me!” he explained while pointing to the holster at his hip.

“Not to mention that magic is generally not a good dietary choice. You gotta build up those calories and keep track of them to properly burn them off! Daily exercise extends lung capacity, especially jogging! A healthy body prevents you from becoming a target, because any enemy that knows what they’re doing will target down the glass cannon first! Most don’t, but these are things that an officer should keep in mind” he continued to lecture, slightly reminiscing to his captain’s speech on his first day as an officer. May his soul rest in peace… If he died. Captain Falcon wasn’t up to date with his past life of being a police officer.

Captain Falcon pondered on Black Mage’s deductions on the usefulness of Toads, a thoughtful nod following. “We try to funnel the right people for the right jobs, but if stronger response squads aren’t available, there’s not much we can do on that. Besides, a majority of the Police HQ is operated by Toads, so even when a world destroyer is on the scene, there’s bound to be Toads on the response team. Again though, not all of those guys are weak.”

As the Mage suggested a fight though, an excited grin grew on the Captain’s face. “I knew you were going to ask that, bro!” he added as he pulled out tiny remote and pressed down on one of the buttons. The logo that they were standing on shifted in place, creaking as it slightly rose and then began to descend like an elevator. Once the platform ceased, the duo would find themselves in a rather spacious dungeon looking arena.

Cracking his knuckles, Captain Falcon stepped off the elevator and embraced the somewhat muggy air of the secret arena. There were a few practice dummies and boards for target practice, both looking as though they’ve seen a fair amount of usage. With enough distance, Captain Falcon turned about and took a readied fighting stance. “Show me your moves!”
