The source of the signal Tails said was coming from an old warship of Eggman's known as the Flying Battery. On the shores of Dark emerald Coast, one can see the remains of the once threatening ship.



The air ship floated in the murky waters of Emerald Coast. It is hard to believe that Eggman would go back to using it for even a while in this world. In there somewhere, maybe in the deep depths of the war down ship amongst the gentle waves would be the power source they were sent to investigate. The infected seemed to not be roaming the coast at the moment but that did not mean they weren't presence. The waters sparkled a little as if they were supposed to still have some sort of life to them.

It was time to cross the waves and get to the Flying Battery's remains. It was going to take some exploring to find the source of power but that was par for the course. If cliches have anything to say, it is probably in the deepest reaches of the ship.

Ninetails stared balefully down at the shore, so this was where the power came from.
His tails spread out in an arc as his ears perked forward, trying to sense any outerworldly powers. Nothing, he couldn't sense a damn thing! His lips peeled away as he lowered his tails, fine, no problem.
He turned his head, eyes narrowed as he tried to make out any of his so called "allies" who would be accompanying him.

From the horizon behind Ninetails, came the crunching, shifting noise of shoes pedaling across the sand.
The shoes belonged to a tall thin Italian plumber who also happend to be wearing blue overalls over a green shirt and a green cap that matched.
On the front of this cap, an L stood proudly on a white emblem.

The man was staring intently into the two screens of a gadget he was holding in his hands, following it like a map.

“Aw Mama Mia! Go on the beach mission, I said... Little-a sun, little-a sand, little-a surf I said... It'll-y be the perfect place for to prove your aren't-a chicken, I said... Peace of the cake, I said... Some-a day at the beach this turned out to-BE-A-OUF! he mumbled to himself in anxious regret before tripping, landing face first into the screen and burying both his face and the gadget in the sand. 

After mumbling some muffled Italian phrase, the man pulled himself up and out of the ground and shook the sand out of his moustache.
Why, it was none other than the other Mario brother, Luigi! What was he doing way out here?

"Oho No!" he yelped as he plucked the Dual Scream Boy Horror out of the Luigi shaped imprint in the sand. "Come on, stay with me! I'm-a so close to the-!" he pleaded, shaking the grains out of the creases and hitting the gadget hoping it'll keep functioning. "Sigh, none good. It'll just have-a to wait for it to reboot." he sighed, closing and tucking it into his pocket.

"It was pointing to a powers source out here some-a where... but where?" he looked around scratching his head, until he caught eye of Ninetails not far away.
"Yipe!" he piped, ducking behind the nearest rock for shelter. "What Is-a that thing?" he asked himself nervously as if he had an answer.

The waters that moved from side to side kept their soothing rhythm as Luigi and Ninetails met up. The waters, though somewhat beautiful, they were dark due to the issues brought with the Starvia. The ship just continued to float there until a strong whirrling sound was heard from the ship. A dock from the battery came sliding out to help bridge the gap between the shore and the ship.

At that moment, the Dual Scream seemed to spring back to life as the familiar ringtone started. If Luigi was to answer, Tails would appear on the small screen. "Luigi? It's Tails. E. Gadd gave me the information to contact the Dual Scream. The signal seemed busy for a moment there. I got the bridge for the Flying Battery activated since that was low level security. Did you meet up with Ninetails?" Tails asked.

Ninetails frowned deeply as his first impression of Luigi went exactly like he thought it would go. There went his hopes of an impressive ally. He sighed, at least the promise of some strange power was still a motivator.
His eyes widened at the little gadget springing to life as the little kitsune known as Tail's voice echoed through it. Ninetails peered into the screen, "Yes, this Luigi have found me and we can see a metal bird like thing which I assume is the "airship", we will move in."
One of his tails scooped up the gadget, rotating it curiously until he lost interest, pushing it towards the cowering human, "Come!" He barked, "I am Ninetails but I have no interest in harming a puny human!"
He whirled around and padded toward the sunken airship, he wasn't sure how to get aboard, but he was certain he'd figure it out when he got there.

Luigi scooted around the rock with a gasp, away from the boat as the dock came sliding out. A second yelp of excitement piped out of him when the Dual Scream rang from within his pocket.  After realizing it was just the gadget finally rebooted and catching his breath, Luigi lifted it out of his pocket, opened it and answered. 

“It's-a me, Luigi." Luigi introduced himself. “"Ahuh, uhuh so that was-a you?" Luigi asked in embarrassment. "Ninetails? If you're-a have two tails, who has the Ninetails?" Luigi asked confused. He turned back to Ninetails and counted his tails from his distance.
"Oho, That's-a must be the fox-of-nine-tails!" Luigi concluded "I guess I best say hello..." he gulped, before blinking.

By the time he opened his eyes Ninetails was right in his face looking at the screen with him. Luigi flinched in a wild panic, surrendering the gadget at once. Catching the expensive decive one Ninetails pushed it back to him.
“"Oho uh... o-ak-kay..." Luigi stammered in agreement, trying to regain what little composure he had before. Luigi hesitantly followed the Pokemon to toward the sunken airship.
"Oh and ah, by the way, I'm-a Luigi!" He called out to Ninetails, trying to keep up.

The extended piece of the Flying Battery offered an easy path to get on top of the out lair of the fortress. There was a gap between the shore and the bridge to the ship's exterior but it looked easy enough to get across that it should not be a real issue. The ship had boxes, spinning pieces, turbines, and pillars all over. There was an entrance that looked like it might lead into the ship if one was to try and enter.

"Yes, that Flying Battery would be the place," Tails answered as the Dual Scream was taken over by Ninetails. "Uh-huh, anyway, I will be here if you need any help. I know a lot about Eggman's bases. It has been a long time since me and Sonic have taken down the Flying Battery but I am sure it will be fine," Tails said to Luigi.

Out of a mechanical hole in the ship a mole like robot popped out and spotted the two. Judging the fox was much too big by it's usual attack method, he threw his mushroom at Luigi that would try and bounce him off the ship.

Meanwhile, a monkey revealed himself by climbing along the pole. He took a long stare at Ninetails and then a considerably shorter stare at Luigi to decide Ninetails was the bigger threat. The monkey robot threw an exploding coconut down at the kitsune.

Then a loud buzzing could be heard. Almost out of nowhere, a horde of robotic insects, 2 large ones accompanied by 2 small ones. They divebombed at and past Ninetails before facing the large fox.

Ninetails nodded half-heartingly, "Yes, Luigi, I'll try to remember that." He couldn't imagine why this little human tried to come here, a sword master perhaps,  or maybe one of those metal men called robots!

So lost in his disappointed thoughts, he didn't notice the subtle creaks and rustling that signaled enemy approach, strange creatures that seemed made of metal. He gasped as the attack began, staring down an exploding coconut.

He barely had a chance to try and twist out of the way before it exploded against his haunches, forcing a pained yelp from the huge kitsune. He glared up at the horrible little monkey and shot his tails forward, smirking as they smiled wildly and spat a black mud at the metal-coated menace.

Out of the corner of his eyes he spotted a horde of similar bug swooping toward him, intent on harming his regal fur. This time, he faced them, bring his tails up to guard his face.

Still, it hurt quite a bit! He snarled and leapt after the speeding bugs, trying to swat at them.

“Yowza!" Luigi yelped in surprise when the Badniks came. A Madmole threw a mushroom at him right off the bat.
Had Luigi took the time to notice it was a mushroom being thrown at him, he would've tried to catch it. However any item thrown at him by an enemy robot mole could never be good news, and Luigi did his best to jump right out of it's way.

“Niiine!" Luigi squawked helplessly , watching Ninetails below get blown up.

On his way down, Luigi still knew Something had to be tried...

He would bounce off the mushroom back onto the ship and hit the Buggernauts with a midair Luigi Cyclone.

The Monkey Dude watched as the fox was blown up by his bomb. To his surprise though, the fox seemed pretty unfazed by the blow. Then the fox shot some strange mud like substance at the monkey. He had a strong feeling he should really avoid that.

And avoid the Dude somehow managed to do. The Monkey scurried up his pole and watched as the strange mud coated itself along the pole. That sure was a close one for the prime ape Dude. That stuff looks pretty toxic.

The bug robots turned around to face the large fox after their attack. It would seem their pestering was quite annoying to the nine tailed mutt. The mutt came after them to paw them to death. The buggernauts found it important to avoid the creature's paws.

The bugs quickly buzzed and scattered as Ninetails struck at them. They all expertly dodged the claws of the angry canine and buzzed tauntingly at them. They did not have long to gloat however as it seemed the human recovered quickly from getting knocked overboard. Strangely the human seemed to be targeting the bugs for some odd reason. The robotic insects had to react fast.

Three of the insects managed to fly away, however one of the larger ones were not as fast as his brethern this time. The spinning hit the large Buggernaut and it exploded with an audible pop. Out of the robot came a small rabbit that kind of just hopped around and caused no further harm. The insects regrouped and the remaining large one sent both of the small ones charging at Luigi and Ninetails respectively before returning. The Monkey Dude meanwhile swung around on his pole as if he was preparing something.

The Mad Mole was proud at knocking the green man off the ship... but that did not last long as he quickly got back on board. Quickly this guy had a lot of experience on shrooms. The Mad Mole burrowed back into his hole before popping back out with two odd looking mushrooms. He chucked each mushroom at Ninetails and Luigi.

Ninetails flinched as Luigi destroyed one of the bugs, releasing a tiny animal. His own attacks have missed, prompting an irritated groan from the shuddering fox. He could see the bugs racing back to him and tried to leap away.

 And succeeded! As he watched the bugs whirl away, his tails raced through the air like a paintbrush, forming a spiral. All at once, a threatening whirlwind whipped toward the swarm, intent on tearing them apart!

He clicked his tongue as it wasn't the most impressive thing, tilting his head as the mole creature threw a...mushroom? Still, he tried to avoid it.

He gasped as it struck him, expecting a flash of pain, but nothing. He looked down at himself and let his jaws drop, he was the size of a regular fox! He glared at the creature and brought his tails forward,  painting a strike at the mole.

Luigi stuck the landing, tripping onto his butt only as he stood back up. Looking up and realizing he missed the smaller few.
And they were coming right at him!
Luigi hastily somersaulted out of the way

But it wasn't enough, the little Buggernaut tackled Luigi and sent him sliding across the deck. "Doof!"
"Moving targets eh?" Luigi assessed, stumbling back up to his feet. "Then I guess this is-a job for-a Marksman! Or should I'm-a say, Marx Brother!" Luigi punned, chuckling at his own joke. Realising absolutely no one was to laugh, he sighed it off and jumped back into the air.

"Take-a these!" He took aim and fired two Green Fire Balls at the remaining Buggernauts.

"Phew" Luigi sighed as the Poison Mushroom missed. "I'm-a thought they were all-a kidding when they said the mushrooms were bad for-a you!" He then turned to face the Mad Mole. He hesitated charging it out of fear of another weird mushroom, so he took stance, anxiously anticipating the next attack.

The buggernauts found it somewhat harder to fly and were confused for a second. They looked behind themselves to see some kind of whirlwind trying to suck them in and pop them. These Buggernauts were not done buzzing yet and rapidly flapped their insect wings to break out.

The metal insects were easily able to break out of the whirlwind caused by the kitsune and buzzed tauntingly as they continued flight and tried to return to their leader. However there would be issues with a certain green plumber on their return trip. This problem being two green fireballs flying right at them. The mole had his own issues too as the fox seemed to be drawing something.

The Buggernauts easily flew around the attacks by the man in green and gave their taunting buzz as they returned to their master. The Mad Mole seeing something was wrong quickly dived back into his hole to avoid the Celestial Brush of the Nine Tailed Fox. The Monkey had finished their setup and was now spinning extremely fast. The monkey let go of the pole and flew at Ninetails in a flying kick of both strength and Dex.

Whatever Monkey Dude collided with he would explode into a tiny bird and become harmless as well as 3 pieces of food dropping onto the deck.

Then... there was a rumbling in the deck of the Flying Battery Blimp. Almost out of nowhere a spiky blue ball popped up and tried to slice through the buggernauts while they weren't expecting it.

The spiky blue metal ball shredded through all three bugs and reverted them to animals. It then uncurled to reveal a blue metallic hedgehog known as Metal Sonic. The robotic copy then landed on the ground and turned it's head to Ninetails and Luigi. He scanned them though most only the green one was fully registered in his memory. The nine tailed fox however did hold some interesting data.

The mole popped back up before noticing Metal Sonic and seeming to be frightened. He quickly dived back into his hole which retracted back into the ship as he fled. Metal Sonic ignored this and just picked up the Gust Bellows that dropped from the Buggernauts and scanned it.

Ninetails gnashed his fangs at all the metal animals dodges, of all the irritating situations to be in! Both made no attempt to attack, calling his attention to the monkey, who shot toward him like a missile.

His tiny size almost saved him, but it smashed into his shoulder, crumbling until a little beast scampered away. Ninetails huffed in irritation, at least it was gone! He suddenly sensed movement shooting toward their area, a blue blur destroying the irritating bugs. "Well, well, aren't you dramatic?" He grumbled, staring back at the metal hedgehog's studious eyes with his own. No matter, one enemy still lived. His tails arched over his head and spat the foul liquid at the mole.

"Awhoh!" Luigi groaned as he missed.
Luigi jumped back in surprise at Ninetails Celestial Brush. 

"Go Nine!" Luigi cheered as Ninetails laid Monkey Dude to waste, freeing a tiny bird. "Bye-bye Birdy!" He waved at the bird flying away. 

Something else entirely caught his attention when out of the gray, something blue popped up and shredded through the remaining enemies.

Luigi could only stare in awe, quaking in his shoes at the blue metallic hedgehog turned its gaze toward him and Nintetails. 

Was this new challenger friend or foe? Luigi could only pray...
