Time was running out for the both of them. The longer the large beast was kept waiting, the more angry it would get, and the more violent it would become. At this point nearly everything in this battle was riding on Shadow's ability to perform his final attack to end the monster's suffering. The ape was no longer itself, and somewhere deep inside of it, it was crying and begging for someone to end its struggle for sanity, and the combo of Shadow and his wolf friend were going to do just that. Shadow leaned over to the wolf as if almost falling on its back and he allowed it to adjust him to a mounting position. Once he was positioned properly, the wolf carried him in a dodging weave to the gigantic enemy. The wind blew across the fading hedgehog's face while he was being escorted to the foe at a surprisingly great speed. He supposed he was light enough for the wolf to tote around anyway, and he was glad his weight wasn't too bothersome. Being small had plenty of advantages. The Infected in the area also seemed to stay away, as they still seemed to be fearful of their giant predecessor. This kept the odds decent for the warriors to gamble with. They still only had the one enemy to take down, and that's all Shadow was counting on.
This was going to be it for the overdue beast. The two of them were going to finish off his racket and end his torment. It would be advisable to say that it wasn't exactly the most humane way to slaughter an innocent creature who couldn't help but have the unfortunate pleasure of being infected, but it was the only feasible way to get Shadow and his colleague to the Life Sphere safely without the fear of having a giant monster follow them there. They were nearly caught up to the ape now when Shadow was still fighting to stay conscious. The speed at which they were moving and the velocity of the wind kept him awake, however. The wolf creature barked every now and again to ensure Shadow was at the ready and as markers for how close they were getting. Cringing at the pain, Shadow pushed through the urge to faint and widened his eyes remembering the reason why he fought, why he did the deeds of a good citizen, why he chose heroics over rebellion.
They dodged more attacks from the infected ape as it tried to find them in the brush, but only managed to miss. It knew they were closing in, but it just didn't quite know where. It's blind fury was well controlling it at the moment. This was a big advantage for the team. With a few more dips and swerves the duo reached the infuriated foe and before they knew it they were within his line of sight. Adrenaline started to pump through Shadow, he felt his senses coming alive again. He fed off of the moment and the intensity going on right now, it was keeping him alive, keeping them both alive and alert. He was ignoring the agony his body was going through because of the previous attack from the ape, and he focused all his energy on the monkey, every last ounce and drop of it the hedgehog had left, this was the last resort move. The wolf charged forward towards the big ape with Shadow holding on to his mounted partner's fur to stay on. It was now or never!
A circular disk appeared behind Shadow's back, and seconds later the black hedgehog was flung into the air with a great jerk. His whole body was like a pebble being chucked through the clouds, he felt lighter than ever. He maintained his focus and kept himself glued to the task at hand without signs of fading. He closed his eyes as if to mutter a strange chant, several chaos emeralds appeared out of nothingness presenting themselves as shiny stillness in the air surrounding the hedgehog. Shadow opened his eyes and they began to glow brightly. A sphere of light surrounded Shadow and the emeralds fused within him. His body, shape, and form changed entirely. His fur and skin changed from black to a golden yellow and white. His spikes grew sharper and more red. Shadow finally reaches the face of the enemy for what felt like forever in the sky, and his hands start to glow. He snivels and snickers at the large behemoth cherishing its last moments. For a brief moment with the little time he had to pull off his final blow, he could see a touch of terror in its eyes, but as he looked deeper in what felt like a frozen frame of time, he could also see relief, and empathy, and thanks for what he was about to do. "Suffer no more, friend. CHAOS BLAST!!!!"
Right before Shadow's mighty attack hit, the ape lets out a moan of gratitude and it pierces in a flurry of lightning and brightness right through the skull of the great beast sending splatters of blood out of the back of its head. The goop starts to deteriorate vanishing in an instant from its fur and skin. For a short while you could see its real self with grey fur, smooth tan skin, and ofcourse the sense of calm it felt as it was sent to its doom. As it falls backwards in a quick and painless death, it's body began to materialize. after only seconds it materializes fully and the particles of its remains forge themselves into a figure. The figure is a single trophy of one of Donkey Kong's former nemesis's who was the victim of the Starvia plague; Dread Kong.
Just as it became a trophy Shadow's powers go away and he reverts back to himself. The chaos emeralds scatter and vanish immediately upon the attack completion, and the hedgehog that was once airborne and staying afloat in his Hyper form was now falling, fast! He began plummeting from the sky and violently down to the ground. He was faint now, completely out cold. He had no energy left. He used everything even his backup reserves which was very little to defeat the ape. There was no telling whether he would crash onto the ground and risk breaking his bones or if the wolf would somehow catch him or save his fall, but there wasn't much time to evaluate that was for sure, he was going to land somehow, whether it be badly or by some saving grace. There was only his falling body and the trophy of the defeated Dread Kong now, no Infected enemies in sight, though they may return to the scene after seeing their raging counterpart as a mere trophy now. The clock was ticking. The wolf had to decide what to do next, take Shadow back with it to Life Sphere Central, or let him rot in the jungle.
