The visage of the castle could be enough to make one shudder, and not just from the cold winds alone.

Somehow, someway, the castle seemed far more...imposing at the dead of night. Maybe it was because of the darkness or the haunted aura it. Could this be the work of that paranormal activity? Well, it seemed to be the case, but the only way someone would truly know or discover was to enter the castle and start the ghastly hunting.

On the entrance of the castle, marked unofficially as a rendezvous point, stood Ecolo, who despite looking at the castle's supposedly imposing figure, was completely ignoring the location. No, his mind went to the fact that he had to wait for two persons to come over so that he could get going. 

"Hm...where are those two 'partners' of mine?" He asked aloud to no one in particular.

A near by pipe creaked and echoed a haunting moan of a familiar melody.
"Gee this pipe is-a rusty. I'm-a going to have-a to give this pipe the good ol' de-rust job after I'm-a finished with this big job." The echoed voice stopped humming to point out.

A green cap popped up out of the rusty old pipe. A pair of eyes followed to look around. Looking up at the castle, the eyes clearly didn't like what they saw, as they realized just which castle they were looking at. "Ohoo Mama Mia! Not Again!" the voice whined with the echo of a face palm.

"Come on Luigi, a good plumber never leaves a bolt unscrewed or a sink still dripping." the voice re-encouraged himself. And up out of the pipe came the hat and the rest of him.
It was Luigi! ...in all his meek shivering glory. He took a deep breath and chaperoned himself up to the entrance of the castle.
Ecolo was the only person he saw waiting for him, so after another breath, he walked up to the ominous blob.

"Eh h-ello? I'm-a Luigi from Mario Bros Plumbing." Luigi reached out to shake his hand, tipping his hat like a gentleman with the other, shivering with both."I-I got-a call-a 'bout a m-massive pipe burst that couldn't wait. Wh-where's the leak?" He gulped, dreading that he'll inevitably have to go inside the creepy castle to fix it. If there even was such a leak at all, that is.

In the shining vista of the moon, if one looked closely, they would see the figure of an odd, almost otherworldly figure, gliding across the sky. Was this a paranormal phantom haunting the skies above the castle? Nope. It was only Rundas, Ice Surfing to meet his two partners to deal with some actual paranormal activity. Rundas had never actually experienced anything in this kind of field, but it seemed interesting to him.

As Rundas surfed down in front of the castle gates, he overheard a green-clad man talking to a rather blobbish looking figure about...a leaking pipe?

"Plumbing? I thought we were ghostbusting..." Rundas said, sounding slightly dejected

Ecolo seemed to be just as confused as Rundas. Why was the guy blabbering about...a broken pipe? Didn't he sign the mission that specifically told him that they would be fighting ghosts? Well, Rundas was pretty fast in dashing away that man's thoughts, that was for sure.

"Now that everyone is gathered, I see we can start introducing ourselves!" Ecolo began. "Howdy-do! I'm Ecolo, a space-time traveler. It's nice meeting you, Luigi...and I assume the blue guy is Rundas?" He asked, copying their voices.

Ecolo giggled. "Now then, shall we hunt some ghosts~?" He asked playfully as he began floating to the castle's entrance. "Be sure to tag along! We wouldn't want to have anyone abducted by spooky ghouls!"

The blob decided to wait for them at what appeared to be the castle lounge, which was...awkwardly hot despite the cold he felt breezing through a few seconds later.

If Luigi didn't yelp at the sight of Rundas surfing down like a summon, he definitely yelped at the mention of ghost busting.

"G-G-G-GHOST-B-BUSTING? Oh-a No I'm-mim-a just here for a plumbing job!" Luigi protested. "That's-a what they told me back-at the Life Sphere when they sent me-a here with my...Poultergust 5000. Egad E. Gadd!" He facepalmed with the nozzle of his vacuum pack upon realizing it was all a set up.

"I don't-a sound-a like-a that. Luigi huffed, unamused by Ecolo's impression of him.

"Naw It's-a cool, you two enjoy your 2016 ghost hunting reboot, I'll just-a wait here..." Luigi tried his best to decline the ensuing adventure.
The mentioning of being abducted by spooky ghouls changed Luigi's mind about staying alone and unprotected so he quickly rushed in at Rundas's side as they entered the crestfalen castle.

"Ay it's-a warm in here!" Luigi noticed, taking his hat off to fan himself. "Maybe there's-a something wrong with-a the boiler afterall."

Rundas chuckled to himself a little as he watched Luigi have a minor panic attack. He didn't know who signed Luigi up for this mission (although a certain professor came to mind), but he wanted to thank them, even for just this reaction alone.

"Indeed. I should have introduced myself earlier" Rundas replied to Ecolo's question of his identity, while being slightly impressed by the quality of his mimicking skills.

Rundas walked with behind Ecolo, who was leading them through the castle gates. Luigi ran up beside him after a few seconds, realizing that he would've been left outside otherwise. They entered what looked like a lounge, and Rundas was having some trouble. The room was quite warm, and he himself was a being of ice. Of course, usually this wouldn't bother him so much, but there was something about this air in this room that was making it hard for him to stay in there for very long.

"Guys, if we could turn down the heat in this room, that would be most appreciated" Rundas said as sweat started appearing on his forehead.

Ecolo was considering whether or not has was going to play along with Luigi's reference game, and he ended up deciding not to. After all, there wasn't any reboots to be seen around here, and there was apparently no girls around. As the two caught up to the blob, he heard Rundas' wish of scaling down the room temperature and Luigi's offhanded comment about the boiler.

"I can say the same, guys. Who thought having a room this warm without air conditioners would be a good idea?!" Ecolo commented, disappointed.

Thankfully, there was no actually more reason to worry about that, as the room suddenly got colder...and the heat began focusing on the middle area. Suddenly, a swirl of purple fire appeared, and from it, emerged a...

SPOOKY SCARY CHANDELURE! OOOOOOOO!

The haunted chandelier giggled in sick amusement as suddenly, two living and equally as spooky (only not really) Litwik appeared from the spooky fire swirl that just died out now. The three Pokémon looked at the trio mischievously, possibly planning to do...mean-spirited things with them. Quite ghastly, don't you think?

Unfortunately for them, Ecolo being Ecolo, he gave them a piece of his mind.

"Wow, you're actually proud of that stunt you just pulled off? I've seen spookier with silly ghosts that cracked jokes."

Blunt and apparently sickeningly savage enough to rile them up, the ghost Pokémon looked angry at them. Looks like a personal invitation to a fight. Yay.

"Right-e-o!" Luigi nodded, on the case of looking for the thermostat or whatever source of heat this room ran on.
A cold chill ran down Luigi's back, as the room itself got colder before he found anything.
"Ey did someone else find the thermosta-EYAAAAAH!" Luigi turned around to ask only to yelp in fear of the new chandelure added to the room's decor.

Luigi instinctively responded to the invitation to a fight by firing 3 fire balls with intent of running away while they're distracted.

Luigi slapped his forehead, realizing that fighting a candle is like fighting a fountain with water. After yelping in pain that his hand was still hot, he realized he had to change his approach. What he wouldn't do for Mario's FLUDD right now. But wait, Luigi didn't need FLUDD, he had his Poultergust 5000 instead!
Luigi pointed the intake nozzle at the ghostly candle crew and turned it on, attempting to suck them up in it.

Rundas sighed in relief as the temperature dropped back down to a more comfortable one " You find that thermostat, Luigi?"

Apparently not, as heat returned to the room, except it radiated from the center of the room instead of all over the place. Then the source appeared. It was what looked like an old-fashioned chandelier, but it was alive, and seemed to be laughing at them. It was soon joined by two candles that also were alive. They seemed to be pretty proud of themselves and the "joke" they played. Ecolo put them in their place though, with quite a bit of snark too.

it's a fight you want, huh? Well a fight you shall get, then" Rundas challenged, and opened fire on the Chandelure

To Luigi's probable ironic amusement, the Chandelure was hit by the fireballs, who had hurt the spooky chandelier. This one isn't the same from Smash Runs, so fire's fair game! Ice was also a fair game, and in fact, had proven to be more effective.

Ecolo watched in amusement as his allies...just hit Chandelure and not the other two Litwicks. Ecolo let out a chuckle. At least the Chandelure became a popsicle for now!

"Don't tell me you're gonna ignore the flunkies! Fake Speech!" 
Ecolo chanted the spell as the ground rumbled a bit, as suddenly three icicles appeared from the ground!

He missed one, huh. That could've spelled death for one of them. The two Litwick decided to get REVENGE for their leader as they shot several small fireballs at the trio.

Ecolo's grin did not falter as he evaded the fireballs with incredible ease. The haunted Pokémon would keep going...but Luigi intervened by sucking them up (yes, including Chandelure) with his haunting Poltergust, following a corny song reference. Ecolo decided to volley it back.

"When they come through the door, unless I want some more...I think I'm gonna call Luigi! ...Or Loogey, I still haven't decided on a nickname for ya, sorry!"

"Nope-a, the ghosts found us instead." Luigi replied, pointing at the Chandelure and Litwicks being held in place by his Poultergust 5000’s suction. Luigi’s partners took advantage of this situation attacked the Chanalure and the Litwicks, but they fought back as well A Pokeball would be much more effective.
"I aint-a scared of no ghost.” He boasted, despite nothing being farther than the truth.

"Eyahaha!” Luigi yelped in pain being hit by the Litwick's fireballs.
"Okay, m-maybe a little.” He relented, his ruse of bravado burned away. It was about time to finish the job.
Luigi turned up the power and sucked up the Chandelure and the Litwicks up into the Poultergust 5000 once and for all.
The vacuum shook around a bit, breaking the impression that Luigi’s was afraid thanks to his reaction, and then stopped. A Pokeball would’ve been much more effective, but the vacuum worked non the less.
”I’m-a Weegee. Numbar Wan!” Luigi proclaimed his nickname, tipping his hat proudly.

Rundas jumped out of the way as the Litwick's fireballs just missed burning him. After he regained his footing, he took aim and.... Luigi sucked all the ghosts up with his vacuum. "Way to killsteal, dude" Rundas muttered. Secretly, he was proud of Luigi. Looks like the scared little plumber can ghostbust after all.

Seeing that there weren't anymore ghosts in this room (for now anyway), Rundas looked around to Ecolo. "You're the leader of this mission, where to next?" Rundas asked

The blob snickered a bit as Rundas said that he was the leader of the mission. While this was...somewhat true, he just lead them to the castle so far. The castle he didn't know anything about. Oh well, he should put in his genre savviness to use.

"Ya know, ominous entrances like this often hide a secret...let's take a look around first."

The uncanny looking trio would most likely end up spotting a weird...marked area around a carpet. Maybe there's be a secret in there? Spoiler alert, yes it does. There's a trapdoor hidden in there. Thing is, it's been left unused for...quite a long time. Could they end up opening it?

"T-trap-a Door?" Luigi flinched, raising his leg and looking down. Luckily he wasn't standing on one yet. He decided to poke around the ground for...safety reasons, looking for said trap door.
