New Donk City/Donkey Kong/Super Mario Series
Alignment: Lawful Good
Motto: "Jump, man!"
Allies/Friends: Mario and gang, Donkey Kong and Krew
Enemies/Rivals: Bowser, Mechawiggler, Madame Broode, the Broodals
Backstory: Mayor Pauline
Appearance:
History On Li: After an exhausting day running the welfare of New Donk City, Pauline went to bed early and dreamt of a beacon in the far distance. Drawn to it, she walked for what felt like days and somehow arrived at the Life Sphere's beacon on Li. There were some familiar faces, including Mario and his friends, and it took some time for Pauline to realize that she wasn't dreaming and couldn't wake up back in her bed. She feared for her citizens, the New Donkers, and wondered if this catastrophe was affecting them too but she could see no sign of any of them among the survivors. She hoped that was a sign that they were safe.
Pauline helped coordinate things at the Life Sphere while the heroes ventured out into danger, and spent time working with Professor E. Gadd to make best use of collected raw materials from the outside world, building and managing a team of Mini-Marios performing labor and administrative tasks to keep things running at the Sphere. Pauline trusted Mario's instincts and was grateful he was there but was leaning towards Sonic's plan of evacuation given the toxic inhabitability of Li. Feeling conflicted, she decided she needed to venture out into the world and face the dangers to understand Mario's point of view before she could make a decision.
Primary Attacks (3)
Hat Tricks: Pauline takes off her hat and flings it. With Trilby's help, the hat is guided on a rainbow stream of Bonneter magic performing stylish tricks ricocheting between enemies before returning to Pauline's hand. [Light DEX 5% dmg]
City Umbrella: Make no mistake, this ain't no dainty parasol! Pauline's umbrella has been modified with some New Donk know-how using mini-girder framework and mini-awning canvas to brave the toughest weather. [Medium STR 16% dmg]
Lucky Purse: Like any city girl knows, it doesn't hurt to keep something in your purse to give it a good swing. Pauline keeps a spare brick from construction work on New Donk City Hall in hers... That's what makes it lucky! [Heavy STR 21% dmg, one-turn cooldown]
Special Attacks (3)
Bonneter Capture: Pauline orders Trilby to land her hat on a target's head and temporarily possess them in a CHA-based ranged grapple. If successful, activate this move to use grappled character’s moves in Pauline's turn instead of her own for rest of grapple. Moves take place from grappled target’s position as Pauline’s hat “possesses” them. This doesn't spend grappled character's actions during their own turn but their actions follow the rules for being grappled. Once the grapple is broken or the grappled target receives any damage, effect ends. Two-turn cooldown.
Mini-Mario: The first product of her successful toy business enterprise, Pauline whips out a mini-toy of Mario that can shoot fireballs or use a mini-hammer. She can hold it, drop it on the ground or throw it to stick to a target and bop them with the hammer. It takes one action to equip and fire it, one action to drop/throw it, and as long as she doesn't have one in her hand, Pauline can bring out up to three Mini-Marios over time. [Fireball is Medium DEX 9% dmg with 40% chance of Burn, Hammer is Light 2% dmg over three of Pauline's turns unless enemy spends an action removing Mini-Mario who only has 1% HP. If dropped, Mini-Mario will continuously shoot one fireball at a target per turn.]
Anti-K Spray: Although she moved on from her kidnapping experience, Pauline also put plans in place for a working line of self-defense tools to keep her citizens safe from offenders. The “K” originally stood for “Kong” but has since been adjusted to “Kidnap”. Distilled from a concentration of Toad spores, this mini-New Donk fire hydrant sprays a blast of spores to ward off attackers. Better yet, when combined with a held Mini-Mario, it creates a flamethrower! [Light DEX 4% dmg with 90% chance of Blind for two turns, but if Mini-Mario is held in Pauline’s free hand, convert Blind into Burn]
Final Smash (1)
Jump Up, Superstar!: Pauline makes music that brings people together and gets them moving! A stage pops up out of the ground underneath Pauline and powerful spotlights attack all enemies before Pauline whips out a microphone using her signature song to call down Power Moons that boost each of her allies. [Each enemy is dealt 30% dmg and each ally is given +5 to their DEX stat and an extra attack per round for three turns without taking a Haste penalty.]
Other Info: Trilby is a Bonneter employed by Pauline as her personal assistant. When he is not hanging out in her hat, Trilby is shaped like a trilby hat with eyes on top of a ghost body. Trilby came to New Donk City and loved the style of hat that New Donkers wore feeling a kinship so he stuck around and became a New Donk citizen. Pauline hopes with coaching, Trilby can help develop relations between Bonneton and New Donk City.
