It was all over the news, through whispers on the streets. A major event was taking place in the Sunshine Stadium, everyone had to be there to meet him. Who? That was the question on everyone’s minds. Apparently, he was a hero from the Life Sphere’s ancient past, saved the entire city from the first invasion of the Starvia and defeated the mastermind behind it all, the mighty Andross. Only a few vids survived to tell the tale and a lackluster theatre production. Could the great and mighty Game & Watch truly be real? It was the question on everyone’s minds.
The stadium was packed with civilians, all waiting in wonder. The hushed tones of thousands wisped through the air, all wondering if they were going to see the real deal today or if it was just another imitator dressed up like the flatzoner trying to steal his claim to fame. In the pit of the battlefield sat a stage, decorated with fancy ribbons and a podium that had a clear symbol on it, that of Aether Foundation.
The clacking of heels cleared the air though, everyone falling silent as the president of the corporation made her way across the stage. Lusamine walked with the dignity and confidence that she always did, a beautiful smile on her canvas of a face, on display for the world admire. She swayed her way over to the podium, swishing her massive unit of hair back before she elegantly placed her hands on the podium. “My, my, isn’t this a fine day for all of you to come out. I know I was told a few people showed up, I couldn’t imagine seeing all of your lovely faces in one place like this” she opened in a charming manner. “Let me be the first to welcome you all to the Aether Gala! The first of many, I suspect. An event run by Aether Foundation with proceeds returning to the Aether Foundation. I’m certain you all know of us, but it bears repeating for the sake of spreading awareness. There are many Pokemon that roam the Life Sphere without trainers, many that become the target for abuse or hunted for food. This isn’t an acceptable lifestyle for anyone, let alone helpless Pokemon lost in a world they couldn’t even begin to understand. Our mission is to house and protect these creatures, preserving them in safe habitats and out of the mitts of monsters like the Pokemon Butcher” she explained passionately.
She paused for a moment. “Now, without further ado, allow me to introduce my handsome campaign partner and renowned Sunshine Stadium referee, Lt. Surge!” An applause followed as the militant man set his army boots on the stage. He glanced at the audience; his eyes hidden behind a thick pair of sunglasses. He simply walked down the stage, shaking Lusamine’s hand as he drew near without acknowledging the audience further.
Once settled, Lt. Surge stood tall with his hands behind his back. “A pleasure to be here, princess” he spoke anally, much in contrast to his statement.
“Well, aren’t you Prince Charming, I prefer Lusamine, thanks” she retorted pleasantly.
Lt. Surge lowered his sunglasses to get another look at Lusamine. “My mistake, ma’am. With half the Life Sphere being royalty, I just assumed that was the case.”
She laughed placing a hand on her hip. “I can certainly understand how you could make that mistake. Now then, would you do the honours?” she asked rhetorically as she moved away from the podium, presenting it with an open hand.
Lt. Surge nodded. He took to the stand, as ridged as ever. “The Aether Gala is a Grudge Match like any other. Two people enter, one comes out on top. Should the lucky contestant come out on top, they may choose to take on the next combatant in our lineup in a double or nothing final fight. You get twice the Tunderbadges, or you lose the Tunderbadges you earned from the last fight and walk away with nothing. The only respite you’ll receive between matches is a single Heart Container.”
From the other end of the stage, Lusamine raised her hand. Lt. Surge unclipped the microphone from the podium and expertly lobbed the device for her to catch. “And now, for our esteemed guest of honour, the Life Sphere’s first and greatest hero, Mr. Game & Watch!”
At the airing of the announcement, two gritty looking Chanseys waddled their way on stage. Deck out with sunglasses and eviolite neck chains, they took to center stage. They carefully scanned the area, looking out to the audience and inspecting each face one by one. Once they were satisfied, they parted ways, waddling apart and revealing the flat man himself, Mr. Game & Watch. He celebrated with a jerky set of jazz hands which caused thunderous applause. His hands fell to his ‘heart’, swooning over the audience’s affection.
“Wow, I wasn’t expecting our greatest hero to be such a character” Lusamine aired pleasantly as she approached the three foot creature. “I can’t thank you enough for pulling this event together, you have some impressive contacts within the Sunshine Stadium.”
The flat man waved his hand in dismissal, as if he was gesturing that the work he’d done was no trouble at all.
“Well then, I suppose we should delay no longer, let’s have our eager volunteer come down and wage their battle.” Lusamine turned to the audience then, extending a welcoming arm. “Anyone at all! You’re welcome to challenge anyone one of us on stage here, isn’t that right, Lt. Surge?” she quizzed as she turned to the militant man.
He shrugged. “Maybe next time” he put simply.
“Oh? I thought a big macho man like yourself was always ready to throw down?”
“Since becoming a referee, I’ve preferred to watch and study battles. I have nothing to prove by fighting in the Sunshine Stadium.”
“Well, I’m perfectly willing to challenge any Pokemon Trainers in the audience. Our champion here is eager to scrap with anyone though!” she added as she patted Mr. Game & Watch on the head.
