Backstory:
Helena's origins
Helena is a Hellhound and alongside her immediate family (Her mother, Her father, and her 3 other sisters), is among the last of the Silverfang Clan. A clan of Hellhounds descended from Orthrus, the Two-headed dog who guarded Death's Scythe and devoured the God of Fire before perishing and being reborn as a pair of Hellhounds.
Her family was tasked with guarding the Silver Gate, a giant metallic door which acted as the boundary between the world of the living and Purgatory. Their job, to repel and if brought to it, kill/devour any trespassers who may endanger the Gate itself. As a result she'd been raised to always remain alert and was taught combat by both her parents from a young age. Her mother's wild brutality being mixed the swift and focused strikes of her Father's martial arts helping her to fend off many foes over the years.
However, one fateful night during a particularly deadly skirmish, Helena was attacked from behind. A knife aiming to plunge itself into her back, however instead of the painful feeling of the blade stabbing into her flesh, she instead felt the flesh of her older sister Skylar's back pressing against her. The young hound turning around to see a blade stabbed into her sister's heart...
Out of anger Helena charged her assailants. Eviscerating them and leaving a bloody mess over the side of the mountain. By the time she returned to her dear sister, it was already too late. Skylar was able to give her younger her final words. Her paw reaching up to gently brush the tears from Helena's eyes before passing on, her bright golden eyes no long glowing with the vibrant light they once held. Helena crying for the first time in her life as her father and mother arrived at the scene, devastated.
Many years later, Helena had grown into a ferocious fighter in her own right. The pain of losing Skylar pushing her to develop to her skills and abilities. However that alone would not prove to be enough as she would soon begin to experience nightmares. Terrible visions of her family all laying strewn out across the Volcano. Their forms broken and bloody as a strange malevolent figure shattered the Silver Gate before Helena's very eyes.
Those visions would push Helena to leave her home behind, the hellhound starting a new journey, one that would hopefully lead her to becoming strong enough to prevent those visions from coming true...
The Rebirth Timeline
Of course, that brings us to where Helena's world diverges and forms a second Timeline. Instead of receiving those Visions, which drove Helena to grow stronger and eventually defeat the threats of her own world. She lived her life fairly peacefully. The assaults on her home slowly dyeing down over time. Allowing her and her family to relax again...
Until suddenly one day an army of Undead and Demons marched on the volcano. Helena and her family staring out in horror as they was suddenly attacked without warning from the mysterious army. The resulting battle was fierce, but one-sided. While the Silverfangs could very easily defeat the lesser enemies, the sheer number of them paired up with the intense power of their commanders caused each of them to fall one by one. Their life force drained from them as the leader, a Necromancer prepared to smash open the Gate with their collective Life Energy.
In a fit of defiance and rage, Helena felt a strange surge of power well up within her. A second voice screaming out instead of her own, one that she remembered from when she was a child. It was Skylar, her older sister having given her soul to her before she passed on. The rage of what was happening waking her up from her slumber deep within her as her entire form erupted into bright cobalt blue flames. The hellhound tearing through the army as she charged straight for the Necromancer. A single solid strike through their chest, ending them in an instant. Setting the Life Force of her family free once more. Restoring them to life as Helena stumbled back.
Her eyes shifting a bit before finally both of them turned a bright, golden yellow. The technique they had used utilizing Helena's very soul to fuel it. The younger sister willingly giving up her body to allow Skylar another chance at life...
The Paradox
And finally we come to the events of what made this Helena who she is. As when her enemies appeared to destroy the Silver Gate, Helena felt a surge of power well up inside of her. Causing her burst forth and defeat the encroaching enemies on her own. Beating them back and foiling their plans before they could fully start.
Of course... this success was not intended in the proper flow of time and as a result a Mochi Paradox Patroller by the name of Taffy was dispatched to the Timeline to correct the issue, the idea that she was supposed to lose and watch her family perish sending Helena into a wild rage which she promptly used to lash out at Taffy. Unfortunately when the now rampaging Helena proved too strong for the Patroller, she decided to try something risky instead of simply retreating for back-up. After managing to splash the hound with enough water to dampen her flames, she lunged at Helena and engulfed her. The Mochi trying to absorb her in order to end the paradox quickly before any more damage could be done.
Unfortunately for Taffy, Helena proved to be more she expected, even as a meal. As instead of managing to absorb the Hellhound's life force, she found her own energy being devoured by the monstrous woman. Her light blue body turning dark brown as she was pulled back and formed over the wolf woman's body. Helena's head finally breaking free as in one swift reversal, she devoured the Mochi in turn. Her body undergoing a bizarre transformation as she became something entirely different from her original body.
Helena had become a Mochi. The process having removed the power that she'd been implanted with at the cost of Taffy herself effectively becoming a permanent part of her. Helena would return home and resume her duty of protecting her home from not only from potential attackers, but the Paradox Patrol itself. Each one that attempted to remove her from her timeline, meeting the same fate as Taffy. Until finally one day a strange cat woman calling herself Kaita appeared before Helena.
The two of them battled for what seemed to be a whole day. The volcano rumbling as they clashed and battled for what felt like ages. The two girls getting worked up into a proper battle frenzy until one final clash caused them both to land on the brink of collapse. Helena barely managing to stay on her feet as she heard a loud rumbling fill the air around her. Several cracks forming in the air itself as Kaita finally explained what was happening.
Her being here, her refusing to let things go back to the way it should be, all of it was causing not just this world, but almost all of time itself to begin crumbling.
That realization struck Helena's mind like a bullet, as all at once a wave of guilt flooded past her. Kaita slowly deciding to tell her the true series of events of her timeline. How it would end, her role in Skylar's return, and the subsequent revival of her family. After so many months of refusing to back down... Helena finally relented and Kaita gave her an offer.
Helena had been transformed beyond repair, even if they reset the timeline, she couldn't fit back in her own world anymore. However, that didn't mean that she had to go quietly into oblivion. She would be granted refuge in a place outside of time itself now as the Paradox Rift. The home of the Patrollers and a haven for Paradox Souls like herself.
Class Lila and "The Maw"
Helena took the deal and followed Kaita back to the Rift where she would be given her own home and a chance to start a new life. Of course her combative nature led her being one of the members of Class Lila (The special class in which all Paradox Souls within the Rift assigned) who handled taking out other Paradoxes and returning Timelines to normal.
Helena very quickly gathered a reputation among not only her own class, but all of the Patrol as one of the most dangerous, but effective Patrollers around. Her brutal fighting style helping her put down Heroes and Villains alike in combat, while her ancestry and new body allowed her to develop and become stronger by devouring Paradoxes and stealing their abilities. Her habit of answering just as many problems with her stomach as she did her fists earning her the nickname of "The Maw" from her colleagues. A name that she took in stride and even gained a sense of pride in.
She'd found a new calling in life, a new way she could help her family.
About a year into her new career, Helena ended up joining one of the tournaments that the Paradox Rift held every once in a while. There, she not only encountered and finally defeated Kaita, but she also met Mimi. The current "hero" of the Paradox Patrol and leader of the Vertshade Force. Their battle rocked the stadium they were in. The fight dragging on until the last minute where a final trading of blows sent Helena flying back. The former hellhound unable to get back to her feet while Mimi staggered back to her's. The Hellhound smiling to herself, despite having lost. It had been ages since she last fought someone that gave her such a rush...
Helena then threw herself into her work even more fervently. The idea that she could potentially surpass that blueberry mochi filling the back of her mind and motivating her to keep pushing on.
Appearance:
History On Li: Helena was taking a day off from her usual Patroller duties when who else but the Nushen would come knocking at her home. The Mochi Hound raising an eyebrow as she brought up that this mission was urgent when she mentioned she had the day off. The Patroller was about to dismiss the goddess's words, after all she could just get to it tomorrow, until she mentioned something.
This particular paradox was pulling from hundreds of different timelines. The sheer number of people she could fight and potentially absorb... well that definitely sweetened the deal for her. And thus she agreed, the hellhound diving straight into Li.
Upon arriving, she discovered that she wasn't the only patroller on this weird new planet. Mimi, the Nushen's star warrior had shown up before her. This came as a bit of a shock to "The Maw", normally she'd be just sent into these missions solo due to her habit of causing a lot of collateral damage when fixing problems. Whatever the cause of all this was... it must have been pretty serious if she was sent in after Mimi of all Patrollers...
Ah well, that didn't matter to much to her. She was here to kick ass, she'd leave the worrying to the other Mochi.
Mechanics
Chocolate Lava: Helena's old body had the ability to produce a special flammable Oil as a way to save mana when performing more explosive fire attacks. This ability remained when she became a Mochi, but it mutated into something new. Causing hot, melted Chocolate to flow her body, allowing her to use it to enhance her more brutal and forward fighting style by coating her foes in the sticky stuff. Several of Helena's attacks inflict stacks of what is called Chocolate Lava (Shortened to Lava Stacks from here on out) When an opponent reaches a certain number of Lava Stacks, they receive an additional negative effect as described below. Some of Helena's attacks expend the targets Lava Stacks, the target can also remove a stack by spending an action to eat some of the chocolate off their body. This heals them 5 HP and removes a single Stack per action spent.
2: Inflicts Sticky Burn
4: Increases Shield Activation Penalty by 5
6: inflicts Disabled on Strength
8: inflicts Slow
10: inflicts Engulfed.
Chocolate Puddle: Puddles of Chocolate Lava that don't do anything on their own normally and are fairly easy to avoid. If a creature aside from Helena is standing in a Lava Puddle at the end of their turn they take a single point of Fire Damage. Aside from that, the only real use of this mechanic is to be used for the activation of Specials. Helena can only have a maximum of 3 puddles on the field at a time.
Sticky Burn: A unique version of Burn caused the heat produced by Helena's Chocolate. This burn behaves as a normal Burn, but instead of granting the target a -1 to Str Mod they are inflicted with a -1 to their Dex Mod.
Engulfed: The target is completely coated in melted chocolate. The thick substance preventing all notable movement. This status behaves as a unique version of Frozen, however instead of being melted off by Fire, Cold attacks freeze the chocolate enabling the captive to break out of easily due to how fragile it is while solid.
Primary Attacks (3)
Silverfang Style: [DMG 5/10%] The style of Martial arts that Helena herself created and mastered, it incorporates both her mother's brutal and wild slashes with her father's more focused and swift strikes. Helena performs a Str Melee attack as either a Light Combo or a Medium attack. If Light version hits, it it has a 10% chance to grant a Lava Stack to the target per hit. The Medium version inflicts a guaranteed stack of Chocolate Lava, however Helena can only do this once per turn.
Exploding Claw: [DMG 32%] The claws attached to Helena's gauntlets are made from a special substance forged from her own chocolate being pressurized and super heated inside of the weapons. This same process can be turned outwards, causing the claws to destabilize before exploding in a burst of bright blue flame. Helena performs a Str Melee attack on a single foe. Due to the recoil of the blast, and her old Fire Immunity being gone, Helena takes 5% damage when performing this attack.
(Cooldown: 3 turns)
Puddle Stomp/Strike: [DMG 16%] Helena raises her foot or hand before striking it deep into the earth. Stretching the limb as far as she can before having it pop out of the ground. Both leaving a puddle of molten Chocolate behind, as well as attempting to hit the opponent directly. Helena makes a ranged Str Melee attack on a single foe, regardless of if the attack fully connects, Helena creates a single Chocolate Puddle, either nearby where her limb struck at her foe, or right in front of her.
(Cooldown: 1 turn)
Special Attacks (3)
Chocolate Wrath: [DMG 20%] Helena channels her inner fury to manipulate any Chocolate Puddles she has formed over the course of a fight. Helena has three options to manipulate her Puddles; Spike, a directly offensive attack with no utility, Leap; A more tricky technique that focuses more on repositioning Puddles and pinning down the opponent, and finally Wave; an oppressive tactic designed to eliminate as many options as possible from the opponent. The Cooldown and additional effects of this move are based entirely on which version Helena performs.
For Spike Helena performs a Ranged Wisdom attack at as many targets as she has Puddles on the field. Helena cannot direct multiple puddles to skewer the same target.
Leap causes Helena to force all Puddles to transform into molten balls of lava and launch themselves at a single target in an arcing fashion. Helena performs a single Ranged Wisdom Attack against a single foe, with this attack gaining a +1 to hit and +1 damage for every puddle she uses for the attack. If this attack hits it inflicts a single stack of Chocolate Lava.
Finally Wave causes all Chocolate Puddles to consume themselves and transform into moving miniature waves of dark brown fire, all of them closing in to singe the opponent. Helena performs a Ranged Wisdom attack that inflicts 1 stack of Chocolate Lava on hit. On top of this Helena's next attack this turn gains a +1 to hit and +1 damage for every Chocolate Puddle consumed by this attack. If Helena instead deigns to go for a Grapple, she instead receives a +2 to the check per puddle.
(Cooldown: Spike; 1 turn, Leap; 2 turns, Wave; 3 turns)
Hellish Burst: [DMG 20%/25%] Helena might not have her Burning Oil anymore, however that hasn't stopped from learning how to replicate it's explosive effects with her new abilities. As it turns out, her chocolate lava is just as unstable as her old oils were, all it takes is the right amount of force to set it off. Helena grabs her opponent by the throat before suddenly striking with her palm, the hellhound aiming to hit center mass of her target, the force of which causing all of the lava currently coating her foe to suddenly detonate in a blast of chocolaty fire.
Helena performs a single Str Melee attack, if it hits it grapples the target and all Lava Stacks currently afflicting them are removed with this attack dealing an additional 3% damage for each stack removed. If this attack is performed on an already grappled opponent it receives slightly more damage on the base and has it's Crit threshold lowered by 1.
(Cooldown: 3 turns)
The Maw: "Ya wanna find out how I got that nickname, huh? Alright, I'll show ya!" Helena got her Nickname for a very special reason and it wasn't because of how scary she looked when she was smiling. The Silverfangs, her old body's family, were the descendants of quite literal God Eaters and that hunger for energy is still very much apart of her new form. In fact, being a Mochi has actually helped her in that department. And by help I mean it made the terrifying feat of her stretching her mouth wide enough to swallow someone or something whole all the easier. Mochi's having an easier time absorbing life force was pretty helpful too.
Helena performs a Melee Str vs Dex Grapple on a single target. If this Grapple hits Helena inflicts Swallowed Whole on them. If Helena already has a target grappled then she can instead target the foe's Str instead of their Dex, she also gains a +2 to the roll. Helena also takes 1 less damage for every stack of Lava her devoured target has afflicted to them (this only applies to attacks made by the aforementioned target)
If a target is K.O.d by Helena's stomach she absorbs some of them into her body, granting her a permanent +1 to the mod of their best stat and a single random move for the rest of the mission. Targets absorbed in this way will be recorded for Helena's Journal, for use in future moves.
(Cooldown: 4 turns)
Marshmallow Hell: Helena's body has become... rather soft since her last few fights. Turns out eating people will do that too you. Of course, Helena's not gonna let something like a new figure go too waste, she's gonna put it too work in a fight, just like the rest of her body. Helena suddenly grabs onto the target, either yanking them close and pushing herself forward before pressing them into her immense mass, using this as the perfect chance too goop them up. Helena performs a Str Grapple attack, if it hits not only does she grapple target but she also inflicts Suffocation on the target. This Suffocation lasts until the the Grapple is broken. At the start of the afflicted target's turn, Helena inflicts 2 stacks of Chocolate Lava on them. The turn this attack is used, Helena receives a -2 too all dodge rolls, due too being too preoccupied smothering her foe.
If Helena performs this attack on an already grappled target, she inflicts two stacks of Chocolate Lava on them alongside the initial Suffocation proc.
(Cooldown: 4 turns)
Final Smash (1)
Orthros Driver: [DMG 50%]"I warned you not to piss me off..." Helena's ultimate attack. After delivering a brutal punch to the stomach or chest, Helena suddenly lunges herself at her stunned target. Her body wrapped in boiling hot chocolate as she grabs them by the throat and rockets into the sky. Only to come spiraling down as all of her Lava coalesces into the shape of a giant wolf's head. The thing biting down just as Helena crashes into the ground before exploding into a tornado of fresh, hot chocolate. The target hit by this attack gains 4 stacks of Lava on top of the damage dealt.
Other Info: - Helena's Yellow Eye is the result of Skylar's soul being apart of her own.
- Due to being a Paradox Soul, Helena cannot talk about the events of her own timeline despite remembering them. Any attempt to tell anyone about her timeline or even mentioning a name from it, results in the words scrambling into an indecipherable mess.
- Helena's body has the consistency of a Chocolate Lava cake.
- Spicy Foods are Helena's favorite, despite them causing Mochi's like herself to undergo an effect similar to tripping on LSD.
- In that same vein, eating Sour foods causes Helena to experience the sensation of being high.
