“...You’ve gotta be kidding me.”
That was what Shadow had said when he realized that his search could have led him to a… really weird cave. This search was starting to get ridiculous. Did he even go the right way? Maybe he was just going crazy, or maybe he fooled himself into thinking that Mephiles was still out there. Maybe this was just one big prank and Sonic, or Chaos forbid Shiya, would jump out any moment and say “Gotcha!” How the heck would an object flying through the air end up in a cave anyway?
...Was he just going insane? Had the Ultimate Lifeform finally cracked?
“You could believe that if you want…” Shadow glared into the dark, steam riddled cave. It was him. Mephiles. “You can go home and get all cozy knowing that I could return at any moment. Or, you can come and face me. Your choice.”
“How do I know you’re freed?” Shadow inwardly questioned. “How do I know this isn’t some kind of trick?”
“Typical Shadow,” the arrogant voice sighed. “Always with the questions. Would you like me to destroy everything around you, all because you didn’t trust your instincts.” Shadow could feel that same burning sensation in the pit of his stomach as he glared down to the ground. “I know you’re feeling it: dread. I’m not the one making you feel that way, am I?”
The hedgehog hated to admit it, but Mephiles had a point. He started feeling this dread long before he even met the demon. This same dread of doubting whether Sonic had meant the world harm or not, the realization that Sonic had been framed again, and Mephiles’s transformation into Solaris all involved Mephiles, but it wasn’t Mephiles’s power that was making him feel that way. It was his instincts screaming at him that something was wrong.
In the end, Shadow was right about Sonic not being the one orchestrating all this, not the real Sonic anyway. Everything else that came after was obvious, but this one was not made so clear. ...Was his instincts to be trusted in this case?
“I’m surprised you’re asking for help this time…” the demon hissed out, causing the hedgehog’s eyes to shut. “You know this is going to be dangerous, right? I don’t exactly have a medal waiting for you, and yet you’re willing to put even a child through this hardship?”
“He said he could handle it,” Shadow insisted, but there were some serious doubts. “Besides, if he has trouble, I’ll help him.”
“But that just begs the question: if you’re just going to do everything yourself, why have help anyway?” Shadow glared down to the ground. Mephiles… he wasn’t wrong. What exactly was Shadow asking for help in this anyway? To bring these people to their doom? This was Shadow’s problem! Not Sonic’s, not Jr’s, not Isabelle’s, not anyone else’s! Shadow needed to stop Mephiles on his own, and if the hedgehog was going to knowingly walk into a trap a demon had set for him, then he should have done so on his own.
Shadow opened his eyes and glared at the cave before looking back at the direction he’d thought the others would show up. He promised he would wait for them… But was a promise really worth their safety?
Shadow’s fists clenched as he glared, more angry at himself than anything. Regardless, Shadow had to be certain that he face this problem alone, and so in the cave he went…

Oh goodness gracious! Shadow’s nature has gotten the better of him and he started his journey in the cave without his team! This starts everyone out with a predicament: find Shadow quickly! But watch out! This land isn’t something to mess around with. It should be rather obvious to everyone that this cave isn’t safe, so recklessnesslike what Shadow just demonstratedshould be avoided. In order to find Shadow, one of you must roll at least a 10 in INT roll. Shadow hasn’t gone very far in yet, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find him. However, the longer you go without finding him, the deeper he goes and the harder it is to find him.
