The stars were glittering especially pretty this night. Gazing wistfully at them through her glass ceiling, Daisy wished she had someone to watch them with. It was an awful night to be alone. Looking down to the makeshift bed behind her, she reminded herself she wasn’t as alone as she felt, though it didn’t make her feel less so. On the bed lay her only company for the evening, a plumber, as still and motionless as a trophy. He was soulless, as in his soul was stolen from his body. Distinct from being technically dead, more akin to being in a coma. The hospital, limited on space and resources, allowed her to volunteer to take him home and look after him. To her, it was a lot like plant-sitting: green, doesn’t move much, tall, handsome, and unlikely to survive on his own.
Talking to him wasn’t the same as talking to a plant. There was a risk that at any moment he could wake up and hear her spilling her darkest secrets. She’d be the one to die if that happened. It was no secret how she wished he would wake up. She’d have said anything to make that have him back.
Sighing deeply and lifting her pleading eyes to the skies, she figured one more wish wouldn’t hurt. They haven’t done much to help yet either, for that matter. Maybe it was how wet they were, maybe they needed sleep sooner than she thought, but Daisy could have sworn her eyes saw something glimmer in the sky. Rubbing them to make sure, Daisy canceled her double take when she heard a noise from Luigi’s bed. Turning around to double take at the bed instead, Daisy did a triple take upon seeing Luigi’s face muscles moving since she brought him home.
“mmmmama…mia…” His eyes were clenching and his nose wrinkling as if about to sneeze. Raising a anthropic hand to rub his face, the first thing Luigi saw when he opened his eyes were another pair staring eagerly back down at him. “…an angel?” He groggily asked, still not all there yet. “…Wait a minute! Does-a that-a mean I’m-a” He jolted, reopening his eyes in a wild take. Gasping as if coming up for air from a deep swim, Luigi felt himself over and sat up. He seemed solid enough. “…Is it Spring in The Overthere already?” He asked, looking around to take in his surroundings before his vision finally stabilized on what he thought was an angel. It was Daisy beaming back at with tears running down her face. So he wasn’t like he was wrong...
“Luigi! You’re alive!” Daisy cried, not hesitating to glomp him and squeeze the life back out. “I’m-a am?” He panted, not yet settled out of a his state of confusion. One could take the way his heart was beating as a yes. “I’m-a Alive!” He cheered at the first thing he understood. Unable to muster the words to agree with him, Daisy simply lifted her head back from over his shoulder and grabbed him by the overalls, pulling him in for a deep smooch right on the nose. This might have been too much too soon, judging by the way it knocked Luigi out.
“…Not again.” At least this time he was red in the face instead of pale.
Meanwhile, at the Lightweather Hospital, in complete disregard to visiting hours, a Ninjask burst through the doors and glided past the front desk, already fully aware which room she was headed for.
Arriving at the door, she pounded on it, nearly scratching the paint with her claws.
(Team mate #272 Kappa Pineapple the Ludicolo! It is I, #291 Nintenda the Ninjask. I have returned. Please open the door!) She called impatiently. The party she was leading into the hospital had a chance to catch up to her by the time Kappineapple opened the door. His eyes were wet with somber tears.
(Please report. What is Master’s condition?) She practically forced her way past him to see for herself. Much to her disappointment, she found him and Clucky the Blaziken just how she had left them: lying motionless on twin hospital beds. Neither trophified or legally classifiable as dead. Or were they?
(Master…#257 Clucky the…No!) the Ninjask’s buzzing voice began to break as tears lined her eye sockets. (Please! Wake up! Master! We conquered Shedinja! Why aren’t you waking up?) She pleaded, caressing the boy’s face, looking desperately for signs of life.
(Please, Purple du…Don’t…Please don’t leave me!) The Ninjask cried into her trainer’s beating chest.
“…Ziken!” Her cries were interrupted by an abrupt sneeze. She immediately got up with a start and looked over to the Blaziken in anxious confusion. Looking back at the human’s face, it was trying to…repress a smile? And a chuckle? And it gave way to a laugh.
(…What?...What is going on here?) The flustered Ninjask tried to regain her speech pattern.
Her trainer opened his eye, clearly understanding his façade was blown. “I don’t think she’s buying it anymore, boy.”
(Master?) The Ninjask asked, her crying breaking way for laughter. (How dare you!) She growled, latching onto him for an aggressive hug.
“Good morning sunshine~” Purple could only laugh, hugging and petting his Ninjask back. “Actually is it morning? What time is it?”
(It is…Frankly the current time is none of my concern, you and #257 Clucky the Blaziken are alive and that is all that matters!) Nintenda sniffled into her trainer’s shirt.
(Ay! Don’t be greedy Niña!) Kappineapple reminded her of his presence as he scooped the both of them into a group hug. (You gotta share with the Captain too~!) Rubbing his beak with his claw, even the ordinarily surly Blaziken couldn’t deny the preciousness of this moment.
“Don’t think you can sit this one out. Get in here!” Purple invited Clucky to join the group hug, prompting the Ludicolo to scoop him in without giving a chance to decline. (Alright, alright, easy on the squeeze, Pinapple!)
“We’re a family again guys.” Purple sniffed sentimentally. “Just the four of us against the world, like old times.”
(Actually, Master, if I may interject, this would not have been possible without assistance.) Nintenda interrupted, trying to wriggle free from the hug. (If I may introduce, my assistance in your rescue: ) Nintenda gestured at the Pokémon trainer waiting in the door way.
“You made a new friend, girl? Hell-ow Way” Purple did a double take upon realizing who it was.
