Hello and welcome to 2018! ...an entire month or so early.
Sunshine stadium has suffered from quite a few "gamebreaking" issues in the past. We just recently tried to solve one of them, being the way thread archival was handled. That went pretty well, but has been expanded and improved upon (imho) in this newest update. From now on, once a player agrees to a PVP battle they are obligated to post there within a reasonable 1-2 week timespan. If they don't, they are simply hit by all the attacks aimed at them! If this happens twice, they lose the match. The only exception is if a delay is agreed upon or if emergency circumstances occur.
More recently, there's been an issue of judges. Most of our staff either doesn't have the time or doesn't have the interest in judging, and the fact of the matter is that I couldn't possibly judge more than a few threads myself. Therefore, I'm happy to announce a new judge-free mode! At only a minor cost to the potential amount of badges you can earn and a slight change to the way a winner is determined, you can have your very own PVP matches with no need for a judge at all! Simply post your finished matches in the new thread turn-in area you can find stickied in Sunshine Stadium and have fun without worrying about a third party's availability! For those that like judges though, you'll be happy to know that they aren't completely gone yet. Judges can still toss out a few extra badges, more than ever before in fact! Previously they could only give out a single badge to both parties. However, now they can give out up to 3 badges to either party. Additionally, it is now possible for community members to sign up to act as judges themselves! No longer is it a staff exclusive position, although we will be watching over community judges to make sure everything's on the up and up.
The way appeals work has been reworked! Previously the thresholds for success were slightly polarizing. 19 and below was 1.0x damage done as appeal points and 20+ was 2.0x damage done as appeal points. Now it's a bit harder to hit that 2.0x threshold, requiring some investment in charisma to hit that 23+ threshold. However! There's a lower 1.5x threshold that is easier to hit, requiring only an 18+!
One other change to the way appeals work is that they're now a major part of calculating the victorious character.
Last but not least, the humiliation mechanic! Ever wanted to style on your opponents as hard as you style on them in-game? Well here's your chance. The humiliation mechanic is a higher risk, higher reward variant of the appeal mechanic that allows you to decrease your opponents appeal score and potentially steal those precious points for yourself! This is meant to allow low charisma characters to interact with the appeal system without being at such a severe disadvantage, however high charisma characters will have a better chance at stealing the appeal points instead of just removing them from their opponent.
