“AH HA HA HA! Listen up ladies and germs! This is your beloved Master of Catastrophe and his lovely assistant dropping some good news upon you all! After a long and grueling legal battle with the Life Sphere government, I have acquired all rights towards the Sunshine Stadium and will be assuming complete control over all operations! That’s wonderful isn’t it, Big Top!?”
“…I mean, I don’t have to do any of the paperwork for it, so I guess it’s cool…”
“That’s the spirit! Anyways, as the current ruler and owner of the Sunshine Stadium, I, MC Ballyhoo, shall make all the changes that I see fit! First off, we will do away with this lack of audience participation. If the people love you, they will shower you with gifts to aid you in battle! You must earn their love though! Appeal to them, make them admire your skills and excellent one-liners!”
Introducing, the Appeal System! During every turn that you take in the Sunshine Stadium, you will make a CHR roll to determine how well the audience reacts to you. The amount of points you get will be determined by the amount of damage you did to the opponent (meaning that your attacks would have to hit the opponent). There’s a catch though, if you roll a 20 or higher, you will receive double the points in that turn. If you roll 10 or higher, but lower than 20, you would gain the same amount of points that you did damage. If you don’t make a CHR roll at all or you roll a 2-9, you get no appeal points at all. If you roll a 1 or lower, you will get negative appeal points. The referee will keep track of appeal points, so as a player you won’t need to worry about the numbers or doing math.
In addition to that, the referee may give you bonus modifiers to your CHR roll based on your style of combat or if you managed to make a quip that they particularly enjoy.
Example:
G&W uses judgment hammer 9, deals 32% damage
G&W uses head butt, deals 18%
Appeal roll: 14 + 1 = 15
Judgement hammer hits.
Head butt misses.
Appeal Points: 32*
(*This number will be shown with every announcer post).

Now, what do the appeal points do for you? Well, with every 150 appeal points that you acquire, the audience will either toss a helpful item at you or a harmful item at the opponent. The item will be randomly generated off of a list that has been specially made for Sunshine Stadium, but again this will be a matter that the referee will deal with. When an item is thrown at your character or the opponent, it will immediately activate. Harmful items may be dodged by the opponent, and you may dodge helpful items if you feel the need, but it is normally not advised.
“I’m just disappointed that I won’t be able to throw anything…”
“It is just one of many changes, Big Top! Hold on to your hats! I have done away with the referees, now we’re the stars of the show, Big Top! I was getting tired of having just one judge in every match! Now we’ll have three, each looking for something different in a fighter! It is a much fairer way to determine who the true victor is!”
“How will that make us the stars of the show when there’s three judges?”
“Because they will be a secret until the end of the show! In the meantime, we’ll have the spotlight, just like everyone has been demanding!”
“Who has been demanding that?”
“Speaking of which! Allow me to introduce a Mario Party favourite, Chump Charity! With it we will help the chump of the match-“
“No.”
“But Big Top! I already made the wheel and everything! It will surely cause all sort of catastrophe! We have to stick up for the little guy!”
“The little guy can fight without our help.”
“Aw… Fine then! Next on the list! Now that we are free from government shackles and our own independent company, we need some good old fashion sponsors! And do we have some for you! Each fighter will represent one of these companies in the ring and that means they have a team to fight for. I’ve already divided our best known Life Sphere Adventurers into their own groups based on my judgments of their character!”
“Don’t you think people will want to make their own teams?”
“Ah! They can do that on their own time! Besides, our sponsors can set them up with all kinds of deals and items to keep them battling! For now though, they’re on these teams here!”
Police Headquarters (Lawful Good characters)
Harvest Acres (Neutral Good characters)
Chaotix Headquarters (Chaotic Good characters)
Lightweather Hospital (Lawful Neutral characters)
Busy Bee Lobby (True Neutral characters)
King Goomba’s Trade Depot (Chaotic Neutral characters)
Character Slot Shop (Lawful Evil characters)
King K. Rool’s Warehouse (Neutral Evil characters)
Gamble Guy’s Casino (Chaotic Evil characters)
As hinted at above, a page for registering teams will be posted at a later date, though you can only be a part of one team at any given time.
“…So, what are the point of teams exactly?”
“Well, you see there shall be a new coveted prize! The Sunshine Stadium Belt! The person with the most victories in the Sunshine Stadium (from this point forward) shall have the belt and everyone on their team will gain benefits from it outside of the Stadium! For every mission they complete, they can trade in one of the mission rewards for any item that they so desire!”
Sunshine Stadium Belt: Gives the user a +2 to all CHR rolls in the Sunshine Stadium. Anyone on the same team as the wielder can trade 1 mission reward item for any item off of the Item Index once that mission is completed. Anyone who challenges the current wielder and manages to beat them while getting the approval of all 3 judges will have their win record matched up to the current wielder plus the match that they had just won.
Example:
Say belt holder has 50 wins, challenger has 0. If the challenger wins with all three judges, the challenger will have 51 wins in their win record, that doesn’t mean that the wins will be counted toward new moves, and thus the challenger won’t get 26 moves from the outcome.
“So, people on the same team won’t fight each other then?”
“Anyone can fight anyone regardless of the teams! As a fighter though, you want to make sure that the belt stays in your team! They can all fight amongst themselves if they wanted! I’m so ecstatic for these changes, Big Top! How about you!?”
“Meh, might be cool for a week…”
