I don't know about you guys, but I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of strategies our combatants will think up next! Speaking of which, In the left corner we have a chilhood friend of mine from my own future, a man who speaks entirely in body language, Red! And in the right we have--"


"--...Me. Whoops!"

The sound of a chair falling and someone rushing out of the announcer's box could be heard over the microphone.

Not that long later, Blue emerged onto the battlefield! She glanced up at the announcer's box for a moment.

" . . . "

Blue then turned her attention to the matter at hand, waiting for Red of course!

"Hey Red~! Looks like you put on a few years since I last saw you before Li! Which is weird, but don't worry--I won't judge! Have you given any thought to joining my team~? They make love balls now. They're perfect for a cutie like me, don't you think~?"


"...You'd never fall for something like that, would you? Or someone like me~ Sigh... Well, I know what you're really here for. Just remember, this isn't a Pokemon League sanctioned battle! The rules are a little different here. I hope I don't have to tell you of all people to expect a few tricks up my sleeves~"

...Blue waggled her brows a bit at that last bit. She, of course, had no sleeves.

Red stoically stepped out onto the battlefield. The resting seriousness on his face seemed to contrast indifferently to the cheering crowd. By the sounds of their hype, they were familiar with what his Pokémon could do. The question on his mind was, how good were they at doing what he does?
Putting the element of strategy into the hands of the audience was a novelty concept, if not a frivolous one. But Red figured he had time on his schedule for exposition like this.

“…?” A familiar voice over the speakers changed his face. He had heard Blue was running the stadium now. From what he had heard, she was doing pretty well for herself here. As well as you would consider the near lawless nature of the fights that go down around here.

Red didn’t laugh, but instead he sharply exhaled upon realizing she didn’t manage to get an announcer for her own battle. But seeing her emerge onto the battlefield changed his face once again. It was as if looking at a teenager whom he had last seen as a baby. It had not been quite as long, but the difference was clear in every curve of her new figure. Alas, Dalga was a cruel mistress and for all the growing she had done in the interim, he had aged well beyond.

“…” He could only shrug with a slight tilt at the head at her comment. She was still as witty as ever, but he was much too old for such quips to be funny. Sleeveless or not, to not expect a trick or two would be to not expect a battle from Blue.

He’d spout a witty comeback of his own, but if she remembered a thing about him since their time together in days gone by, it’s that it wasn’t his style. Instead, he let his Pokémon choices speak for him. Reaching into his pockets he pulled out two pokéballs, one in each hand, and pushed their button once to expand them. Tossing one of them into the air, the pokéball burst open and a majestic pair of orange wings expanded.

“Char!” a mighty orange Charizard roared as it circled the arena, giving the crowd a good view of it’s powerful physique before landing loyally beside Red.

Out of the other ball, a big round bulbous blob of green and cream blubber flopped out, landing on the other side of Red with a hefty thud that shook the entire battlefield.
“…Lax…” Snorlax yawned, cranky to be awake, but too lazy to sit up and acknowledge his opponents.

Dropping her balls, Blue released Clefable and The Skiller Skitty onto the battlefield! Then, a thought occured to Blue. Red was from the future, right? Blue decided to do a little test. If Red knew about The Skiller Skitty's odd quirks, it'd show in his reaction. If he didn't know... despite coming from her future, well, that said something about the nature of their existance here on Li, now didn't it?

"...Hey Red! You remember my skitty right? She's a real cutie~"

Red of course would likely have no memory of Blue ever owning a skitty, as The Skiller Skitty was an addition to her team from Li. The Skiller Skitty began to bounce around and play with the air rather harmlessly before abruptly standing still and staring intently at Red. Who knew what sage wisdom could lay behind that innocent kitten smile?? "Skitty, use future sight!" Blue commanded. ...Skitty's visage began to blur and flicker, tears in space-time warping reality itself around her in such a fashion that, for a brief moment in time, Red could see both the Blue that had set off on a journey with him at the age of 11 and the Blue that had traveled to Alola with him standing side by side, with the same bright smile on their faces.

...And then there were five Skiller Skittys. And unlike the visions of Blue, they weren't going away. "...Now, sing Red a pretty song for me, please~!" Blue requested rather light-heartedly. The five skitties gleefully obliged, and...

--Most of the crowd would either scream or fall silent as Skitty's 'singing' sent a series of concussive shockwaves rolling out across the arena, mentally assaulting some of the crowd as well as Red and his team and knocking quite a few people unconscious.

"Heh, looks like you picked the wrong pokemon Red~ My pokemon looks a lot stronger~" Blue remarked in a mocking tone. Only she wasn't mocking Red. ...She was mocking... Green? Blue was doing a rather goofy and childish impression of Green from their first days with their pokemon, doing her best to match his smug and bratty tone, only she made it sound a lot more nasally and nerdy. "I felt invisible. By the time I received my Pokemon you two were already duking it out. 'Boys will be boys', right?" Blue added, holding out her arms in a helpless shrug. "...That kinda sums up our whole pokemon journey, doesn't it? Always a step behind you two. Green barely even took the time to say 'Smell ya later'!" Blue continued, feigning disappointment. "...Hey Red." Blue began, flashing him a knowing look. 

"Smell ya' later~!"

“…?” The first thing Red noticed when shown the holographic screen was that he was only given three requests whereas Blue was given five. It was honestly rather disappointing, considering what he was prepared to do. He figured his fans had a little more imagination than that. Still, that begged the question: did it mean he had less means to impress, or more room to focus on a battle?

“…?” When did Blue catch a Skitty? He recognized her Clefable but the Skitty… Red stared back at the Skitty with widening and then suspiciously squinting eyes. This was no ordinary Skitty. It had an… alarmingly uncommon vibe of malicious intent about itself. Typical Skitties were far from harmless, but this one emanated imminent danger. Red could sense it. And before Red could do anything about it, the Skiller Skitty proved it by using Future Sight. How does a Skitty even learn Future Sight?

Charizard picked up on Red’s example and braced for the worst when not one, but two but four more Skitties materialized before them. Red couldn’t let himself get distracted by the mystifying nostalgic sight of Blue he used to know. To allow these feelings to take hold would be counterproductive to the situation at hand. Especially because now the five Skitties were singing. And it was worse than fifty Explouds.
Red and Pokémon covering their ears did nothing to stop the profound effects the song had on them physically. In fact, instead of intense pain, the three of them just felt weaker…Drowsy to be exact. If there was any doubt left that this was no ordinary Skitty, it was shattered by that song. And this was how it ended, not with a whimper, but with a yawn.

Ears still ringing, Red scowled at the condescending tone Blue boasted with. In a faint second, his minds eye didn’t see her beyond his closed eyes and blurred vision, but rather, someone else entirely: Green.
Wait a minute! Was she doing an impression of Green? …She was! Red had to move a hand from his ear to his mouth to hide what felt to be a smile behind it. It was more spot-on than he’d like to admit.
But what might have been a smile morphed into an introspective twinge when Blue’s little bit abruptly ended.

…Was that… Really how Blue felt? After all those years of being out-done, teased and mocked by Green throughout their childhoods… He never forgot the smug superiority in the first look he gave him from the Champion’s throne. …Was that what they were doing to Blue? “…”

…Even if it was, what was he going to do now? Letting whatever feeling of guilt or self-reflection affect how he performed in this battle would be just as condescending to the progress Blue had made and the trainer she had become. So he was going to go ahead with the battle as planned. Speaking of plan…

Deciding not to shout his first command, Red leaned over and whispered his orders into Snorlax’s ear.
“…Snor…” He groaned upon realizing this meant getting up, but what Red said goes, so he did so obediently. Slowly sitting up and eventually standing up, Snorlax took his first wobbly steps across the field toward Blue’s team. Each step taken with a little force, each step building a little more momentum. What started as a waddle became a more hefty lumber and then picked up into a stumble. Until he was almost across when he used what looked like the last of his strength to…trip? Trip into a tumbling jump! Snorlax landed on his back, flopping all of his weight down…Onto Skitty!

Before the dust could settle, a quick series of air slices speedily sliced their way toward Clefable. Charizard had used Snorlax as a distraction to get within chopping distance with his wings. He took extra care to focus his energy into his wings and other necessary muscles as to not over exert himself and put himself to sleep faster.

“Zard!”Carrying Red in his arm’s, Charizard then used the remainder of his immediate energy to glide on his wings and close in on Clefable. Using his trainer as a battering ram, Charizard slammed Red feet first into Clefable.

Riding out this momentum, Charizard tossed Red toward Snorlax, who leaned at an angle to bounce Red off of his belly into the air.

Stabilizing himself in the air like an acrobat, Red waited for the opportune instance of maximum height and visibility… to Hit the Dab. Mid-Air.

“…!” Before being caught by Charizard on his way down, so the two could share a cool, and aloofly tired pose. Charizard even yawned for effect.

"Well would you look at that. Just past the word go and I'm already putting the audience to sleep. I am the worst host. What do you think, Red? Skitty's a pretty knock-out success, right~?"

The Skiller Skitties, like cats are wont to do, promptly scattered as Snorlax approached them, dashing off at the speed of cat and vanishing behind Blue rather ineffectually. She reached back and lightly pat one of them on their head.

Meanwhile, Clefable just kinda stood there with a dumb look on its face, watching Charizard come at her. She also just kinda took his furious attacks, only to abruptly reach up and catch Red at the last possible moment, catching him for a brief moment before he was yanked away from her!

Clefable seemed confused by the attack,  but just kinda stood there pondering what had happened for a moment before Blue called to her attention. "Clefable, use confusion!" Blue ordered. Glowing with a psychic aura, Clefable promptly obliged by assaulting Charizard's mind!

"Now don't hide behind me all match! I need your help, y'know! Skitty? Hyper Voice!" Blue ordered. The Skiller Skitties hopped forward in response meowing rather eagerly. And then... Skitty skipped singing and started screaming. Like a cat, of course.

The concussive force of the Skitty Squad's screaming sent concussive sound waves racing out across the stadium, shaking its very foundation such that pillars shuddered and cracked. The noise would briefly deafen Red and his pokemon as well, such that they wouldn't even hear Blue's followup commands, let alone be ready to react to them if they weren't particularly tough. After Blue gave her commands, she promptly ran at Red and attempted to tackle him, pushing him to the ground such that she could wrap her legs around him and sit on his stomach, holding his shoulders down and hovering over him, her long hair nearly reaching his face and the skirt of her dress obscuring his mid-section. "Sorry Red, but I have to 'assert' myself for the audience~" Blue cheekily remarked. ...Double pun intended.

p_1d20-2 (Blue's Sucker Punch! Thankfully, Blue seems disinterested in actually punching Red and it's just a grapple, and as she rolled a zero it will probably only work if Red got stunned)

Meanwhile, Skitty opened her mouth wide. A fount of power appeared in her mouth, forming the base of a hyper beam attack as she aggressively fired off a devastating attack at Charizard and Snorlax!

“…” Red could only roll his heavy eyes at Blue’s lame pun. Rubbing them annoyedly Red pondered his situation. They had already fulfilled all three of their audience requests, so they could focus on the battle without any corny distractions. Yet they were facing a distraction of their own. Snorlax, Charizard and himself were all drowsy. Snorlax in particular, looked like he could fall asleep at any moment. On second thought, he always does. Still, while it was his place to stand back and give orders, Red could not allow himself to succumb to his drowsiness. His Pokémon looked to him not only for guidance and strategy but also as an example in times of pressure. So he kept his composure, and kept his eyes open to inspire them to do the same.

Taking his rapidly blinking eyes off his trainer for a second, Charizard saw Clefable glowing blue across the field.

Already half asleep, Charizard’s mind was tempted to block off his senses with dreams, that were easily warped and distorted to disrupt his special awareness and balance. If this weren’t enough, Charizard was struck with a massive head ache. It was like getting hit in the head with a rock, from the inside.

“…!” Red’s weary eyes shot wide when Blue ordered the Skiller Skitty to sing another sinister song.

Still lax and droopy, Red’s hands couldn’t reach his ears in time to prevent the piercing deafening scream to take its toll on him. It knocked him deaf in addition to his temporary blindness and self-imposed mute. He couldn’t hear Blue’s next attack and between blinks, didn’t see her coming.

Charizard’s mental wellbeing was once again threatened by Skitty acting up again.

Not Again! Charizard’s confused drowsiness was exacerbated by the insufferable screaming as he howled in discontent. Blinded, confused and now deafened, all the odds were against Charizard’s senses when it came to the next attack. Still reeling, disoriented by the assault on his eyes ears and mind, Charizard was in no condition to avoid the following beam.

Tempted to take a nap right there on the spot after missing Skitty, its screaming made such a thing only a dream for Snorlax.

Snorlax’s heavy sleeping habits proved to be no match for the rudest awakening of them all. The infernal racket was impossible to sleep through, but rather knocked him out instead. Stunned motionless, Snorlax just laid there and took the Hyper Beam virtually point blank.

Before Red could focus his vision, opening his eyes after that sound storm, he was tackled to the ground by a Blue that crossed the field to do so.
“…?” Still coming down from his dazed state, Red looked up at Blue with an expression that made clear he still could not hear a word she was saying. Sitting on his stomach, Blue might not have noticed Red’s legs were free to lift his feet and covertly signal to his next command to his Pokémon.

Picking up on Red’s signal, Charizard noticed Red giving no resistance to Blue sitting on top of him. She had him pinned down, but he had her right where he wanted her. Taking his gripping of her legs as the go ahead to do so, Charizard took a deep breath and let loose a torrent of flame in Red and Blue’s direction, angled to toast just Blue above Red. Talking about the hot seat.

Despite just being forced to endure the horrendous noise Skitty made, the first priority on Charizard’s list was paying Clefable back for the headache she tried to give him. Gliding into her with a flap of his wings, Charizard reached out to pluck Clefable off the ground like a boulder and kiss her…really hard…with his forehead…slamming her right back into the ground.

Having just about enough of this, Snorlax rolled over and swiped at the Skitties as if trying to attack an alarm clock. If a Skitty was unfortunate enough to be within reach, he would pick it up and of all things, chomp down on it, chewing it and spitting it back out. 5/10, Needs cream sauce.

Blue just kinda sat there on Red, smiling down at him rather invitingly, taking the opportunity to lean in over Red and lightly trace her finger across his chest in a playfully flirtatious manner. "Well that wasn't so bad, was it~?" she remarked in a sugary sweet tone.

((Blue is appealing by flirting with Red~!))

...only to just kinda gasp in shock and pain as a fire consumed her. Blue made an effort to quickly put out some lingering flames on her person, tears leaked down her cheeks. She quickly brushed them away. Hey, fun fact! Did you know that being burned dried your eyes out? Whatever comment Blue may have had, though, was stifled by sickly coughing. Blue quickly covered her mouth, shuddering slightly atop Red. She'd breathed in fire. Blue passed Red a very sore look of betrayal, that suggested maybe being underneath her was about to become hazardous to his wellbeing before... tearing her gaze away and lifting herself off of him. Blue smoothed the skirt of her dress down and just kinda walked away, retreating back to her side of the battlefield with her back turned.

Meanwhile, Clefable was grabbed! However, as Charizard looped around to try and slam Clefable down into the ground... a darkness abruptly swallowed her up, leaving her featureless for a brief moment before a sick grin appeared on her face, spreading from ear to ear, followed by two red eyes...

Gengar cackled like a mad lad as he faded straight through Charizard as ghosts are wont to do, escaping his grasp with minimal effort, vanishing into the ether!

Gengar then began to assault Charizard's mind from the darkness, plaguing him with a terrible nightmare, all while feeding off of the negative energies it evoked in the pseudo dragon pokemon.

Gengar then re-emerged nearby, taking advantage of his sudden appearance to attempt to charge up and toss a shadow ball at Charizard, hopefully before he even saw it coming!

Meanwhile, Skitty--!!

...So it turns out that rapidly firing off hyper beams all like no big deal actually was a big deal, and it tired Skitty out so much she really didn't even move until it was too late. Spat out, Skitty hissed angrily, none too thrilled to be covered in drool. And then.... And then Skitty began glowing. All five of them, that is. What in the--were they evolving?? ...No... That wasn't evolution. Quite the opposite. In fact, it looked rather familiar! Perhaps Red had seen this attack before ...from an electrode. The skitties bounced toward Charizard and Snorlax all disarmingly-like before abruptly and violently exploding, leaving large craters in their wake!

...But rather than fainting immediately, Skitty appeared only mildly inconvenienced by blowing herself up. One thing was for sure, explosions were probably the fastest way to remove spit from fur. From there, one of the time-warped Skiller Skitties abruptly fired off a hyper beam at Snorlax before abruptly fading from existence!

Meanwhile, Blue was just kinda... appearing to not pay attention to the battle. She still had her back turned.
