An empty field and a softly rumbling crowd awaited both teams. The field was covered in pretty green astroturf. Clay lanes created the famous baseball diamond around the pitching mound, which awaited the first pitcher. The umpires were already on the field, watching as stadium staff watered the clay lanes to soften them up a little and dragged specialized brooms across them to remove any pits from practice earlier. It was time for each team to take the field. They had only to decide who would be doing what first.1d2

“Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and Girls! Ghosts and Goblins of all ages!” The whole stadium seemed to darken as a horde of demonic blood lusting bats swarmed the field. “The starting pitcher for the Lords of Shadow…” These big lipped bats converged into one spot on the field, the pitcher’s mound and collected themselves… in a giant green lemonade pitcher with a skull and cross bones on the front. “Oh Yeaaaaaaah!” In a thunderous puff of smoke, the pitcher vanished, and in its place stood a gigantic bloated corpse with a most jovialgrin on his face. “Tada~!” Thanatos God of Death posed like a true vaudevillian. “Hello It’s Me~! Thatantos God of Death~! I know, I know, it’s the greatest day of My life too~!” He giggled so coyly even his bulbous stomach jiggled with a sickly rubbery bounce. “Step on up, ladies don’t be shy! Which of you is first to die?” Thanatos taunted as he transformed into a green nuclear pitching machine. “Stretch your legs, take a breath, try and take a swing at death~!”

Meanwhile, a strikingly beautiful young lady meandered her way out onto home base, rocking the mini-dress uniform Tough Love proudly wore to emphasize their sporty femininity. Her pink hair matched the dress all too well, and boy--you could tell she had no misgivings about showing all of that skin. With the amount of work she put into skin care, she looked like a model instead of a player. A very well built model. Taking her place at home base, Raffina finally deigned to acknowledge the scene in front of her. She was giving Thanatos a cold, unflinching stare. Her bat was leaning against her shoulder, and she appeared to be chewing some bubblegum. She blew a bubble as she watched Thanatos finish his display. Look at her, radiating badassitude over there.

"...So this is what an alligator looks like without its teeth." Raffina flatly remarked, taking her position and readying herself for a swing. She was right-handed. And then Thanatos threw the ball! Hah! What a lousy pitch. It was like he was throwing in slow motion! And it was coming right for her! This would be an easy hit--Wait... Raffina had a realization at the last moment. Balls weren't supposed to be coming toward her! They were supposed to go toward home plate! The pinkette squatted down at the last moment, narrowly dodging Thanatos' pitch. The pinkete hopped back up and snarled at Thanatos, leveling her bat at him. "Hey! Watch it, fatso! Bean me with any of those balls and I'll force-feed you your glove!" Raffina belligerently shouted as the catcher retrieved the ball and tossed it back to Thanatos for another go.

Ooh she was feisty, and Thanatos loved that. She looked prepped preserved, and ready for burial. “No, This is.” Thanatos returned fire by turning into a crocodile without teeth. “Is that what a cow looks like without udders?” Welp, that was an embarrassing first pitch. “Hoo-hoo, pardon me~. I must’ve neglected to stretch.” Thanatos transformed back into himself and bent backwards, audibly snapping his spine in two. “That’s better. Second time’s the charm~!” He turned back into a bigger pitching machine and aimed another shot.

Raffina flinched, glancing down at her chest for a brief moment. Was he--? ...Could he? Her eyes narrowed in disbelief. He was! He was making fun of her breast size! Raffina puffed out her chest a bit, modeling it at Thanatos. "Need some glasses, dead eyes?? If you need a better look, come on over! I'll get rid of that last tooth of yours while you're at it!" Raffina retorted, tapping her bat against the palm of her hand in a threatening manner.

...And then she stood there doing nothing while a pitch flew by her, mistaking it for another ball. Well that did little to calm her down. Are you sure you should be provoking the bull, Thanatos? She seemed like she wasn't much for restraint...

“I might need to borrow your shades, Cia.” He transformed back into himself so he could catch the ball the catcher tossed back to him. In the process of eaching out for the ball, Thanatos jumped in place, almost deliberately giving his whole body a jiggle in the process. The sound of two fat slapping against a big third should not be that loud. Not on any male. Thanatos scoffed, loading another ball into his holster. “Only thing coming over there is this ball.”

Raffina wrinkled her nose at Thanatos' antics, turning her nose up. "--Yeah, you better stay over there." Raffina remarked, taking up a batting position again.

And WHAM! The angry pinkette took a big swing and sent the ball flying into the crowd where it could not be caught or retrieved. And just like that, a bright smile crept its way onto Raffina's face. Dropping the bat, she began to run until it became clear she'd hit a home run An announcer cheered her on as she slowed to a more leisurely walk. "Get a good look~" Raffina taunted as she passed by third base, strutting her way back to home base with a rhythmic swing in her step, almost as if she were mocking the lords of shadow by flaunting her femininity as she passed. She then laughed rather openly as she crossed home plate, sitting down next to an envious Valorie as she returned to the dugout to celebrate her amazing start to the season. Valorie would be sure to endulge her ego with plenty of praise after that.

Thanatos’ mouth dropped clean off his face and hit the floor with a slap. Raffina, the first batter of Tough Love hit the first Home Run of the game! She even KO’d a Monoeye with her stray ball! Thanatos could only fall over, dead. Rising again like a zombie, Thanatos reassumed his position as a pitcher. “You can Run home, but you can’t Hide there!” Thanatos grumbled before picking his mouth off the pitcher’s mound and taping it back to his face in time for the next batter to step up to the plate. Wasting no time, Thanatos transformed into a more modern model of a pitching machine, took aim with his crosshairs, and fired upon the pitcher.

The next person up to bat was not what anyone would have expected as Sakura Shinguji took to the post. "I'd be careful around her, Thanatos. I heard the girl and Pitty-pat fought once before and both were evenly matched throughout." Death said calmly. He was right, as he had Slogra and Gaibon set the recording of that particular match before they went to do their job.

"Ever hear of the subway diet?" Sakura said, a gentle smile that told Thanatos quite plainly to lay off all the junk food, which was actually her way of showing how serious she was in wanting to make a good first impression. And indeed it showed as she managed to detect his pitch and took careful aim...

And swung with enough force to make the baseball careen towards the far back of the outfield, to which Sakura made her dash over to first base, but rather than risk heading to second base, she would stay on first and wait for the next ball to make it's mark on the next person who came up to bat.

Death, on hearing the ball getting smacked hard by Sakura, immediately rushed to get the ball from his spot on first base before it could even be considered a home run, but by the time he caught it, it was much too late and Sakura was on first base. He might consider a huddle in case the start of the next inning was reached.

Don't count your outs before the inning is over, Death! Cause Midna is in the outfield, watching the ball fly toward her. As the ball flies closer and closer, Midna's hair stood on end. But not because she was nervous, or scared. No, Midna's hair stood up to form a giant hand, reaching up to catch the high flying ball.

....okay, now you can count that as a run. Midna's angle was slightly off, and the ball sailed right past her, hitting the ground a few feet away. Better luck next time, Midna.

Nearby, Zelda began a jog over to the ball only to notice that Midna had distance on her. However, she didn't manage to catch it. It was harder than it looked sometimes to track a ball in the great blue sky. There was the sun, and the lack of any other objects in the sky to compare it to for reference... Zelda came to a stop nearby as Midna picked the ball up. They still needed to throw it back to the pitcher to make sure Sakura couldn't try and steal second. "That was a good hustle, Midna. You're doing great." Zelda softly encouraged, doing her best to hide the fact that she hadn't quite learned how to have fun here yet. Between the physical exertion and the ...She was pretty sure these were boys clothes, she still had a bit to go. But spending some time with her best friend was a pretty good start. Besides, if she'd learned anything from watching kids play sports it was that girls would wind up standing off in a corner chatting if no one encouraged them. Heck, she would be no exception if she had a little less honor and dedication. She could already feel the desire, but well--she didn't want to appear unsportsmanlike after the hero act she'd pulled earlier. Who knew if you could get disqualified for lack of enthusiasm. She certainly wasn't eager to sabotage the team she'd strived to get onto the field in the first place either way.

Being in the far back, Audrey hadn't seen much action. Lots of short hits and low fliers today. Aside from that Home Run, sauntering before the current shortstop, Audrey took that spot between second and third after hurling the ball to one of the basemen WELL after the runner had come to base, and narrowed her gaze below that hat, calling out to the pitcher. "Don't worry, big guy, I'll help keep those runners out!" She reassured, lowering herself a bit as to narrow her gaze at the next coming batter. Oh it was on. It was time for her bit of speed to shine. She moved like water, and threw like lightning. The showmanship of Raffina had thoroughly angered the grave robber, and her intentions were less than pure now. Audrey wanted to win, at any cost. 

For now, she waited, keeping herself primed for the next ball to come in. "Hey shorty!" She called out to Midna, "Next time let someone a bit more mobile take that. You got too antsy, dear. Nothing a bit of proper acting and few tricks of our's can't fix."

Next up to the plate was someone Thanatos would find....irritatingly familiar.

"Thanny-poo! So nice to see you again. I hope your resurrection went through okay" Phosphora greeted her rival commander with her trademark charm. Looking breathtaking in her uniform, a pink mini-dress ("Not really my color, though. I'm more of an electric blue"), the electric lass floated over home plate with her bat at the ready. "Hit me with your best shot, Thanny." she taunted, as she held her bat out, ready for the pitch.

Meanwhile, in the stands, Arle's chest tightened with anxiety at the sight of Phosphora in that rather flattering mini dress. The gears in her head ground to a halt and she just sort of stood there, staring like an idiot.

...

" . . . Are you crushing on her~?" a familiar voice asked from nearby. It was ... Blue! Blue was a lot of things, but a girl whose appearance was her livelihood wouldn't be caught dead on the stadium floor. There was too many things that could break a nail or leave a bruise, and frankly she got plenty of those whenever her cover got blown or she had to stalk a particularly abusive person. She didn't need more of that from a game that was supposed to be 'fun'. "--A-Ah!! No!" Arle defensively blurted out, going red in the face pretty much immediately. Blue gave her a knowing smile in response, disregarding her answer. "Oh come on, you're sitting over here undressing her with your eyes. You think I don't know that look?" Blue replied, having a bit too much fun at Arle's expense to be less blunt. At this, Arle's eyes widened like dinner plates and she recoiled a bit. "Wh--...What?? N-No! No no no no! In fact, I think she looks really good in that dress a-and I'm perfectly happy to admire her the way she is!" Arle blurted out without really thinking about what she was saying in a panic, waving her arms about in fright. Blue smirked devilishly at Arle, watching as she realized her unintentional admission and deflated a bit.

"...Now was that so hard~?" Blue asked. "...I'm supposed to keep those feelings to myself." Arle softly whined. "There's nothing wrong with finding another girl beautiful, Arle. You can't help who you are. All you have to do is find a way you're comfortable expressing it." Blue reassured the other, placing an arm around Arle's shoulder. Arle tensed a bit, but allowed this. "...Why don't you tryyyyy... cheering for her~?" Blue suggested. Arle hesitated a moment--Actually that sounded completely appropriate. Somehow she'd been expecting Blue to suggest something else. "Show her your friendship is closer than team loyalty. That's pretty romantic, don't you think?" Blue asked, earning herself an unamused look from Arle. "...Why'd you have to use that word and make things weird again?" Arle asked. But Blue only laughed light-heartedly at her expense, giving her a little pat on the shoulder before releasing her.

...A few moments later, after Arle had regained her composure, she stood up and shouted from the stands! "Go Phosphora~! Hit a home run~!" Arle called out encouragingly. Now if only her heart would stop racing she could start feeling like she had this thing down.

“Is that so? How ls the little trooper doing?” Fought Pit huh? Interesting! It had been so long since he’d seen little Pit, Thanatos was only sure he wasn’t dead because…well, then He’d know. But he wasn’t as lonely a god as he was last time they met either. He had an entire two baseball team of lively folks to keep him company and kill time with between innings. “Have I heard of it? Have you seen my waistline?” Thanatos teased, flaunting his curves. He had slimmed down considerably since they had started. “I Love the Subway! So many locations, so many people gather there, so many options on the menu~!” He took a moment to gush and indulge his watering mouth. “I think my favourite combination is when they throw Themsleves in front of the oncoming train For you! Talk about service~!” He really put the die in diet. The pleasant smile on his face didn’t last long as unlike the pinkette, the samurai managed to hit to first base on her first swing! Accursed beginner’s luck! No sooner than receiving a new ball, Thanatos had an old foe step up to the plate. “Oh yes, my resurrection went just peachy! Thanks so much for asking~!” Thanatos jovially replied in his typically social tone. Surprising considering that she called him Hades special name for him. “How’s the Assist business treating you? Hoo-hoo~” Transforming this time into a steam powered pitching machine, Thanatos had a lot of pent up pressure he was ready to launch the ball with. “Oh I’ve simply been Dying to get another shot at you, honey~!”
